New in 2008, the Style 1 Don features many of the specifications of its 1934 counterpart. This the first National which uses authentic Nickel Silver (German Silver) as the material for the body. The double engraving pattern, ribbed sieve-hole coverplate, and the decorative “Don” engraved handstrap reproduce the look of the originals. This limited edition instrument is accompanied by an official letter of authenticity certifying it as one of one hundred instruments that will be built.
The Don re-issue is a very special National resonator. The tone of the authentic German Silver body has the mellow edge like the 1920s Nationals I've played. It's more round and open sounding. There is still plenty of bite to be conjured up upon request. Perfect for fingerstyle and slide, this is one of the very best National models in my opinion.
