This is a unique Santa Cruz OM/PW in that it was custom made for Gryphon Guitars with some very old Red Cedar from legendary Luthier Frank Ford’s supply of this fine wood. This is a very lightweight OM that is deeply resonant and perfectly suited to fingerstyle music. The voice is very clear and sweet with a big, open Cedar voice. Many players mistakenly feel Cedar is not powerful, but that’s a myth and this guitar is proof. This one has tons of headroom and is downright loud. This is not only a unique but a very special Santa Cruz OM, the pre-war bracing and the rare Red Cedar make it so.
OMs just seem to always be Spruce top by default, but this guitar makes you wonder why. I love the Cedar on this one; it is very strong and loud but has a wonderful open, mature sound. It's woody and warm and perfect for fingerstyle. It makes the voice very complete, you hear brilliant highs, deep resonant bass and everything in between. This is a particular superior Santa Cruz, one of the finest sounding I've played. Simple pre-war styling but all the tone you could ask for.
