New DT Guitars De La Rosa Amazon Rswd/Carpathian
We are always on the lookout for an up and coming luthier with extraordinary talent. At the Newport/Miami Guitar Festival we were thrilled to discover the work of David Taylor, DT Guitars. Al Petteway and I both played his instruments repeatedly and were moved by the gorgeous tone and remarkable craftsmanship. I always look for the voice of a young builder and all 4 of his guitars on display had it, a sign to me that he is for real. What I sense is a powerful modern bass that is round and punctuated along with articulate trebles that willingly sing out the melody notes. These David Taylor Guitars also strum very well and the full sound is suitable for many styles from Fingerstyle to Jazz to Singer/Songwriter and everything in between. David happens to be the son of a wordclass knife maker, Gray Taylor, and carries on his families craftsmanship skills as evidenced by the lovely inlay work and fine details in his guitars. If you’ve been looking for a young builder to believe in you owe to yourself to learn more about David Taylor and his DT Guitars. This De La Rosa is crafted from rare Amazon Rosewood and Carpathian Spruce and features an armrest Bevel, Soundport, Cutaway, Carved Heel and gorgeous inlay work throughout.

This quality of Koa is getting very rare these days.

This is one of the prettiest Collings we’ve ever seen. It has a gloss Black face with Pearloid pickguard and headplate and the back of the body and neck are speckled Black with white streaks for a very cool Deco look. This one has a very ’50s feel to it. Working in Kansas, Leo runs a very successful repair business and has a loyal following of players that clammer for the few guitars he builds. This D-18 is a cannon, absolutely one of the loudest and sweetest sounding Mahogany/Adirondack dreads you’ll find anywhere. We love it. The Adirondack is wide grained like some of the best old Martins and it beautifully constructed. Flatpickers and strummers alike will absolutely love this one and fingerstyle players will also since it has a 1 3/4″ nut.

For this SJ we selected a premium set of old growth Brazilian Rosewood and topped it with AAA German Spruce. The look of this guitar is defined by the dark Ebony bindings, plain fingerboard, black nut and saddle with just the right of abalone accent on the top border and rosette.
