Rod Schenk has made a strong name for himself building top quality guitars inspired by the work of Kevin Ryan, his friend and mentor. Rod has a unique approach to guitar making, employing in-depth computer analysis to determine optimal bracing size and layout to enhance the voicing and capture as much energy as possible. This guitar surely has a lot of energy getting transfered from the strings straight to the top. It’s very lively and spirited. It reminds us a lot of a Ryan Nightingale and very similar is size as well. The Brazilian Rosewood here is just gorgeous and paired beautifully with Engelmann for a lush and angelic voice. There are also many subtle but elegant appointments such as Blue Paua top trim and headstock trim, a Florentine cutaway, Gold Gotoh 510s and a 12th fret Floral inlay. Stunning to behold and to play.

Sobell’s design features a unique radiused top and back that makes for great clarity and separation that is the key feature of the Sobell sound that one hears in Martin Simpson’s recordings. The trebles are strong and the bass is controlled to allow everything to be heard. This Model 1 Sobell features a lovely set of Brazilian Rosewood and Stefan’s favorite topwood, European Spruce. In typical Sobell fashion the appointments are understated birdsfoot perfling and rosette and Brazlian Bindings. This one is like new but sounds better than new…

This is one of the most rare concert guitars built by David Jose Rubio in 1966. The label reads No. 74, Jose Rubio Luthier, Ano. 1966. This would have been built in his Greenwich Village, NY shop in his early years when he was first discovered by Julian Bream. This is an all-original piece of historic significance and amazing tone. It’s easy to see (and hear) why many hold David Jose Rubio in such esteem. This is a very strong guitar that captures a rich, warm Spanish sound, all without abandoning traditional design. This instrument has a voice to satisfy the most demanding performing artist and will surely give its new owner years of joy.

This is the 2008 Laskin ‘Sunset Canoe’ custom built by master Luthier Grit Laskin known as perhaps the very finest inlay artist of our time. This Mid-Sized Steel String is amazing in so many ways, the Brazilian Rosewood is among the best you can find as is the silky Sitka Spruce top. Grit, who author the book The Guitarmaker’s Canvas has created here one of his most beautiful inlays to date, in our opinion. The sun setting over a mountain lake, the canoe resting on the shore beside tall pines gives the viewer a sublime feeling of peace and invites the musical spirit to awake. The tone is as pristine as this mountain lake, with deep, round bass and full trebles that shimmer and shine. This is a one-of-a-kind and truly spectacular Laskin guitar and we are honored to offer it to you.

Rod is close friends with Kevin Ryan and has been mentored a bit by Kevin so it’s no surprise that the level of craftsmanship in this 12 string is superb and that it plays very easily. The combination of Mahogany and Engelmann Spruce give this a warmer voice than most 12 String guitars. It’s also nice and lively. The body is bound in Rosewood and the headstock and backplate are Ebony, giving this Schenk guitar a clean and natural look. The string-through bridge is very unique for a 12 string as well.

The Modern Eagle is one of the most highly sought after PRS guitars. This one features a solid Brazilian Rosewood neck that is no longer available. So this sweetheart is also a rare bird. The neck has an amazing feel and the faded blue jean finish is just gorgeous. This is one of the nicest PRS guitars we’ve ever laid hands on.
2002 True North GA Ziricote/Redwood
Dennis Scannell incorporates a number of sophisticated and worthwhile design features into his guitars. The tapered/wedge body shape is something we love, it keeps the bass controlled and in balance on a larger guitar and also greatly enhances comfort. Dual graphite neck reinforcements, along with the truss rod, make for great stability when moving between tunings. On the outside you get precise and beautiful craftsmanship in every detail. The voice of this guitar is warm and very clear and in balance. Ziricote and Redwood combine beautifully to make this a superb fingerstyle guitar and very capable for altered tunings.
