2005 Traugott Model R Brazilian/German Spruce
Al and I have probably played more Traugott guitars than most people on the planet and we can honestly tell you that this one is special. The voice is simply magical, the perfect balance of rich, substantial trebles and warm, round bass. Every note from the Brazilian Rosewood/German Spruce body is articulate and refined. I’ve had the joy of watching many non-believers jaw drop as they play a Traugott and realize the difference is for real. The short scale makes it a joy to play all night long. This one had a minor repair during construction and so is also very reasonably priced for one of the best guitars you’ll ever play. Comes complete with a Calton and a McIntyre pickup installed.

This is a replica of Bryan Sutton’s “Banjo Killer” and is one of 30 that are signed by Bryan Sutton on the label. Dana Bourgeois says: “ The BK Slope D has a deep, broad tone. Through wood selection and voicing, we push it in the direction of a bigger bottom end, a “lush” top end, and greater volume, similar to the characteristics of Bryan’s original BK. When I first started making slope shouldered Dreadnoughts, I went for something as different as possible from the balanced and focused sound of my standard Dreadnought. The Banjo Killer gets me back to that original idea.” We couldn’t agree more, in fact Bryon Sutton played this very guitar at our shop a few weeks back and it sounded amazing.

Eric Schoenberg has long worked with some very talented builders to create his guitars in the likeness of some of the finest Martins of yesteryear. There is nothing missing, the tone is wondrous and the playability is extraordinary. From the Santa Cruz Guitars Website: “The advanced X braces, which is the bracing pattern “Pre-War” refers to, is a good tonal option for those using the guitar for smaller accompaniment or rhythm. This style bracing gives the smaller bodied OM an incredible presence and bass response, yet retains a good balance with strong midrange and bright powerful response.” We couldn’t agree more, this is a killer pre-war style OM.

From the Santa Cruz website: “The 12-fret OO is in many ways a smaller version of the 12-fret OOO. The OO’s scale is 24-7/8″ and the body size is close to that of a classical guitar. The short scale of this model lends a sweet and light quality to the tone. The OO is further differentiated by its unique rectangular bridge. This model is ideal for players seeking a warm and intimate tone.” This particular 00 has very strong, open voice and plays with ease thanks to the short scale. With its slotted headstock and full bindings on the body, neck and headstock, this is one very pretty guitar. Great for Old Time, Blue, Rags and Celtic.

The 12 Fret Slothead design creates that distinctive 000 sound by putting the bridge in the widest part of the bout where can impart it’s power to the fullest. The slotted headstock increases the decay of the notes slightly, so the notes get out of your way for style such as blues and rags. Some guitars are born out of direct callaboration between a great player and a great builder. Such is the case with the Borges Barndance. Blues legend Paul Geremia asked Julius Borges to look over two 1930’s Gibson J-35s he had and to create his own take on the Slope D design. Anyone who knows Julius’ work knows that he is one of the very best at recreating the finest guitars of the past while adding his own personal touches as well. The result is an outstanding Slope D that is powerful and brilliant with the energy of an old guitar, but the soundness and accuracy of a new guitar. A few minutes on this guitar and it’s easy to see why players like Buddy Miller and Paul Asbell own Borges guitars. We are thrilled to offer you this Indian Rosewood Borges Barndance.
