2019 Ameijenda Classical, Indian Rosewood/German Spruce
This is the first piece of Ariel Ameijenda’s to be featured at our shop, and we’re already impressed. Straight-grained Indian Rosewood back and sides are paired with a German Spruce top, French Polished throughout for maximum resonance, and a slim 3lbs 10oz playing weight. The trebles are characterized by a smooth, round flavor that pairs up well with the mids and bass. 650mm scale on a Spanish Cedar neck, and dependable Gotoh tuners round it all out. The neck profile comes in at a rounded U, and feels slightly slender in our hands; the setup is superb.

Ariel Ameijenda was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1963, the son of one of that country’s most famous guitar makers, Manuel Ameijenda. Ariel’s father had learnt this difficult art from Juan Carlos Santurion. Santurion had studied at Fleta’s workshop in Barcelona, Spain in the early 1950’s.
As a child helping in his father’s workshop, Ariel learned the finest techniques used by world class makers of classical guitars and renaissance and baroque string instruments. More importantly, the passion necessary for such pursuits came to him quite naturally and very early in life. At the age of 14, under his father’s guidance, Ariel progressed from helping with repairs to the construction of his first instruments.
In 1997 Ariel opened his own workshop in Montevideo. He now sells guitars and period string instruments to musicians all over the world.
