1987 Douglas Ching Classical, Brazilian Rosewood/Spruce
A powerful piece that’s been steadily opening up since 1987, this Classical from Hawaiian luthier Douglas Ching reminds us all about the beauty that comes with age. The voice is rich, precise, and engrossing. Gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood back and sides pair with Spruce on top, and the featherweight build (right at 3 1/2 pounds) is a testament to the opened up nature of the voice. This Douglas Ching has some play marks appropriate for its 30+ years, and is in fine functional shape to keep making music. 651mm scale with a 52mm nut on a medium-thickness Spanish Cedar neck with Ching’s “two doves” headstock; French Polished throughout; comes wrapped up in the original case.

And now for a special treat. We’re selling a fantastic Concert Classical from Douglas Ching which comes to us all the way from 1987 in Hawaii. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, Spruce top, and a refinish and restoration from the venerable Thomas Baldwin make for an excpetionally resonant player. The voice is particularly well balanced from E to e, allowing for complex chords to ring out with even definition along the fretboard. The neck features a medium depth carve, and the whole operation weighs in at three and a half pounds! That lightness goes right into the Ching voice: clear and transparent with lots of headroom.
