2013 Fredell M, Higuerilla/Bearclaw Sitka Spruce
The late Gustav Fredell, former apprentice of Ervin Somogyi, was a gifted luthier who we lost too soon. We don’t often get to see his instruments on the used market, so we’re proud to be able to offer this M model in Higuerilla Rosewood and Bearclaw Spruce. This trim 00 is a little over three pound light, and boasts a heady bass response to belt it out. Laminated nut and saddle, Gustav’s uniquely hollowed out headstock design, and sturdy EVO frets. This 2013 Fredell has an impressive projection by any measure, especially so with a smaller body air cavity.

In 2007 I decided I wanted to apprentice for Ervin Somogyi, and started a four year long journey to get there. After passing the apprenticeship tests in 2010 I was, as the first European, accepted as an apprentice. In April 2013 I completed my apprenticeship, and am now back in my native Sweden to continue my career.
I’m proud to follow in the footsteps of past Somogyi apprentices, and greatly appreciate their continued support and friendship.
My first own work from my apprenticeship period was presented at the 2012 Montreal Guitar show. A brief review of that guitar was published in the Fretboard Journal Blog.
With great sadness, Gustav Fredell passed away in 2015
