Brand New Guidry SG-2, Madagascar Rosewood/European Spruce
The team at Dream Guitars saw this guitar at the Woodstock Invitational Luthiers Showcase in 2023. It’s safe to say that the entire team was blown away by this instrument. Not only it’s astound Madagascar Rosewood for the back and sides, as well as its European Spruce for the top. The fit and finish, the intricate details; the Mokume gane features throughout. Take a look at the photos and see for yourself. Sam Guidry knocked this one completely out the park, into another dimension even. Aesthetics are a big part of what makes this instrument magical, however the sound is true wizardry. This guitar has a very special sound port. Look at the photos, watch the video and listen to how special this is.

This 2017 SG-2 from Sam Guidry is a wolf dressed in wolf’s clothing. Threaded out in brick-red Brazilian Rosewood & Sunday-finest creamy Engelmann Spruce top, elegant Ebony bindings and a generously curvy C neck profile. A flair of style in the geometric rosette and miniature soundport. All wrapped up in a Calton flight case.
And behind all those good looks, a voice to make you cry. Sam Guidry has nailed the balance game: each register is equally present, and equally articulate. The bass response is open with a hint of distant thunder, but doesn’t overwhelm the voice. The treble strings are juicy and round, with great sustain. The setup is fast and slick, and when you dig in with a flatpick the SG-2 responds with a ferocious projection. Again Sam aces the balance test, since the same tune but played with fingertips also sounds rich, full, and impressively loud. Individual note definition is superb.
Not only is this SG-2 killing it as a snappy dresser, it’s also got the fat & dynamic tone to back it up.

We’re quite pleased to offer a new addition to DG’s stable: a brand new 2016 SG-2 from luthier Sam Guidry, the senior instructor at the Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair. By hybridizing the typical SJ body, Guidry provides the player with an instrument characterized by depth and expressiveness, a delicate balance which he achieves with aplomb. For the fingerstylist, this SG-2 is a tool of deadly precision, with an almost surgical separation of notes that allows your arrangements to ring out in all their complex glory. Explosive bass? Well-stocked here. Need treble strings crystalline but juicy? Think of these as sirloin diamonds.
Guidry’s aesthetic is understated to the point that the Birdseye Maple and Engelmann Spruce grab one’s attention, bound as they are by jet-black Ebony bindings and appointed with Spalted Maple around the soundhole and with Ebony lines inlaid into the headstock veneer. The well-rounded C profile neck is intensely comfortable such that the left hand is smoothly cradled from thumb to knuckles. Add to that a slightly elevated fingerboard and you’ve got an instrument well-honed for fingerstyle, or practically anything else you’d care to throw at it. If you’re looking for a responsive, articulate powerhouse, this SG-2 is a hands down winner.
We recently hosted Clive Carroll for a series of lessons and performances here at Dream, and while he was here he recorded “The Prince’s Waltz” on Sam’s SG-2. Clive was kind enough to offer us a copy of the TAB, which you can find here: www.dreamguitars.com/tab/The_Princes_Waltz.pdf.

I began my career by attending the Galloup School of Luthiery in 1999, subsequently earning an apprenticeship under renowned guitar builder and repairman Bryan Galloup. This apprenticeship led to a full time position at the Galloup shop as a builder and repairman where I honed my skills as a luthier and later as a teacher at the Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair .While working at the Galloup shop, I have had the opportunity to work on and study many classic examples of guitars as well as learning the science behind how they work, which led to the development of a voicing system that was spotlighted in issue #24 of the Fretboard Journal. In 2013 the need to express myself as an independent maker pushed me to start building guitars under my own label with the goal to create instruments that are not only clear and responsive in voice, but stylistically unique as well.I am currently the senior luthier at the Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair where I function as an instructor and I make approximately six custom instruments annually.
