2014 Rubio Custom Nylon Archtop African Blackwood/German Spruce
Sawdust from Spruce and Cedar has been in the Rubio family’s blood for generations. With German Vazquez, the blood runs thick: under his hands traditional materials and techniques dovetail into gorgeous instruments for both the eye and the ear. This 2014 Custom Nylon Archtop Crossover is a powerful example of that prowess at work–African Blackwood and German Spruce offer depth and clarity, and the custom C profile neck, with its 14 frets to the body and Venetian Cutaway, is pillow-soft and accessible for the left hand.
For the player craving an artisan-quality crossover nylon, this Rubio is perfect. The play feel of the custom neck will be familiar to any steel string player, just as the rich clarity of the bass strings will be familiar to any classical player. The best of both worlds bound up in one guitar! Rubio french polished the entire guitar for maximum resonance and installed a Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup (with volume and tone controls) to guarantee that you’ll never have to put this guitar down, regardless if you’re at home or on stage.

German Vazquez Rubio (also known as G.V. Rubio) is one of the most talented and prestigious luthiers in the world today. 2018 marked his 50th anniversary as a luthier and in the course of his career he has developed his own signature sound that guitarists have come to love.
German was born in 1952 in Paracho, Mexico where there is an abundance of fine luthiers. German’s first formal training began at eleven years old when he joined his uncle Manuel Rubio at his workshop. There, even at his tender age he made a conscious decision to make guitar building his life’s profession. In 1968 at the age of sixteen he made his first concert level guitar (hence his label reads “desde 1968”). German has since been able to learn from many different master builders such as Felix Manzanero, Jose Romanillos, David Daly, and Thomas Humphrey.
German now resides in los Angeles, California where he works out of his shop. He is a very quiet and humble person with an insatiable work ethic. He makes several different models and believes that “the guitarist is always right’ and will custom make each guitar to the preference of the customer. His workshop is always open to the public so you can see him working on your guitar at every stage of construction.
