2013 PRS DGT, Mahogany/Wood Library Quilted Maple
Over 20 years of collaboration, and this work of art falls into our laps. The David Grissom Trem model (DGT) from PRS is Grissom’s go-to PRS, and this comes as no surprise: this beauty is capable of just about every tone under the sun, and practically plays itself. Grissom and Smith have modified the McCarty Trem model with custom DGT humbuckers (coil tap with the tone knob), the Grissom neck profile that’s a touch narrower at the top frets to aid in thumbovers, and of course the dynamite PRS trem system. Additionally, the 2013 model we have in the shop has been upgraded with a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and Faded Gray Black finish with a Quilted Maple Artist top special ordered from the PRS Wood Library. Individual volume knobs for the bridge and neck pickups allows the player to blend to their heart’s content, and the push-pull tone knob gives you access to single coil scream right at your fingertips.

The fourth entry in the Modern Eagle PRS lineup, the ME Quatro is a well-greased machine with all of the trademarks which have made PRS a household name—and a number of new ones as well. This is a pristine sample from 2012 rocking a Pattern neck, 53/10 humbuckers, Rosewood neck, and the innovative V12 finish. Here you’ll find an artist-grade Flame Maple top with McCarty Sunburst, hybrid hardware, Phase III locking tuners, and a setup that’s easy as breathing. Volume and tone knobs plus three way switch, and the tone knob has a push-pull to split the coils for double the tones. These 53/10 pickups are the warmest of the collection, with coil wire made from the same machine that powered so many of the ‘50s most celebrated pickups. Man, the Rosewood neck on this ME Quatro is a thing to behold, smooth as silk and dark as sin, with that old-jean-familiar kind of feel. This work of art from PRS is a lifelong companion waiting to get to work.

When famed guitarbuilder Paul Reed Smith builds a guitar for himself, you’d better believe we’re listening. Enter this 2013 Paul’s Guitar: McCarty-thickness body with narrow 408 pickups, “brushstroke” bird inlays, and a newly designed stop tail bridge. Smith needed a guitar with a tighter sound to cut through a band mix without taking up too much space, hence the narrow 408 pickups, and adds brass inserts to the tailpiece to accentuate the treble response as well. Pickup selection is a three-way switch plus individual coil-split mini toggles, one for each pickup. The result is a wide range of tones right at hand all the time. This beauty further comes customized with an Artist Grade Quilted Maple top and a Brazilian Rosewood fretboard plus Fire Red Burst package.

Now this is one that got ahead of the pack. We’ve landed a 2011 PRS Artist V Limited in Purple Hazel that’s got some sweet mojo under the hood. We believe oonlhy a handful of Purple Hazels were built in this series, mainly with trems, but this is one of the exclusive few with a stoptail setup. Moreover this features the redesigned five-way switch adding single coil tones in positions two and four, the reliably playable Pattern Regular neck profile, V12 finish, and Phase III locking tuners. The Artist V humbuckers (with the added single coil switch positions) are incredibly versatile, and we love just how butter-smooth the playability is on this one. Paua Abalone birds with MOP outlines are inlaid along the fretboard and terminate in the classic PRS signature at the headstock in a professional and elegant touch. From tuner to (stop) tail, this 2011 Artist V Limited is gorgeous, effortless, and sweetly dynamic. We can’t think of anything else we’d want.

Rich, balanced, and responsive. We love this 2014 PRS Angelus Private Stock, plain and simple. Quilted Maple back and sides in “Bahamian Blue,” Engelmann Spruce on top, and corresponding “Blue Tortugas” turtle inlays along the fretboard and headstock. The headstock alone features over six different inlay materials. L.R. Baggs Lyric pickup, Ameritage case, and a 25.25” scale rounds out the spec sheet. We love playing this PRS in C# tunings, where the bass opened up a bit more, but it held its own in fine form at concert pitch as well. This PRS Angelus Private Stock is near mint, and ready for action.

After three years of experimentation and trial and error between Martin Simpson and PRS, the model before you now was born. Cocobolo back and sides paired with a pale Adirondack Spruce top, wider fretboard for fingerstyle finesse, and a 25.25 inch scale for easy playability and added warmth in the mids. This PRS plays smoothly, and the voice is characterized by a roundness and richness that really fills out your fingerstyle arrangements. Taking it down into DADGAD, the Martin Simpson Signature remained clear and defined, and we love how individual notes retained that definition even if played softly.
The PRS Acoustic System is an easy-to-use pickup with a hardwired volume knob just under the lip of the soundhole. Wrapped up in an Ameritage hardshell case, our 2011 Martin Simpson Angelus is protected in fine style for those rare moments when you won’t have the guitar in hand.Other keywords: lutherie, signature guitar, finger style, fingerpicking, cocobolo, adriondack, peruvian mahogany, maple, open d

Here we have a first from PRS. This is the very First Bronze DG-T finish on a PRS Guitar! We are certain the other-worldly one-piece Blistered Maple Top on this Singlecut Hollow Body I inspired them to try something new. This top is beyond words, so much figure and symmetry. The dark Bronze finish creates a theme that is continued with the Cocobolo Fingerboard, Headplate and Tuners.
Sublime Bird Outlines in 10K Gold adorn the headplate and fingerboard. The Korina Body and the famous PRS Archtop pickups insure a killer tone, but there is also the PRS Piezo system which in our mind, is one of the best sounding acoustic pickups used on an electric guitar, and we are pretty knowledgeable about acoustics;). A PRS was the first truly great electric guitar I ever laid hands on. I still remember the feeling and the realization there are great guitars that are super easy to play. I own one myself and always will. We are delighted to now offer Private Stock acoustics from PRS, they are crafted to the highest standards and offer a fresh approach and design. Here’s more from Steve Fischer head luthier at PRS:I started my guitar making career at Bryan Galloup’s school of lutherie and from there went to work at McPherson Guitars. I met Paul Smith at a clinic he did at Elderly instruments in Lansing Michigan. I showed him a guitar I had made and he called me the next morning to ask me to build an acoustic guitar for him. When his guitar was done we decided that we should make some prototype guitars to see if there was a possibility of PRS entering the acoustic market. After a little more than three years, several prototypes, and backing from several very gifted musicians we decided the time was right to introduce the first line of PRS acoustics. The Idea for these guitars came from a Torres guitar that is owned by a friend of Paul. The guitar is a tiny little maple guitar that has a huge sound. Rich, loud bass, bright clear treble, and the overall volume of the guitar was astounding. Both Paul and I felt like this guitar had much to teach us. The guitar’s owner was gracious enough to let me take the guitar back to my shop in Utah where I had it X-rayed and measured everything I could think to measure, all with the idea to try and figure out, not what Torres did, but why he did it. The problem I faced then was how to take what I had learned and apply it to the steel string guitar. That is where the idea for the hybrid X/fan brace design came from, with the idea that I could get the big round musical bass, clear bell-like treble, note separation, and articulation that I loved about classical guitars out of a steel string. I think it worked. I am very pleased with the way these guitars are coming out. The guys on the acoustic team here are very skilled and doing a great job of creating some of the finest guitars around.
