From tuners to tail, this 2022 Thorell Red Sky Deluxe is gorgeously appointed, smoothly set up, and powerfully voiced for both articulation and warmth. The body is all Port Orford Cedar–a first for us–and elsewhere Ryan Thorell employs English Walnut for the neck and bindings. Along the fingerboard you’ll find his “Z” block inlays, hand cut and hand inlaid. The pickup is custom from Ryan in a Dearmond-style configuration, stylishly encased in Ebony and affixed to the fingerboard. Like new, this Red Sky Deluxe is ready for more action.

Here we’ve landed a sharp-dressed archtop from Utah’s own Ryan Thorell that’s raring to go. This is a 2015 FV Premier (Frank Vignola model) rigged out with some mouth watering tonewoods. We’ve got lovely Figured Oregon Myrtle back and sides with a carved Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood bindings, and lovely Ebony throughout. Schertler tuners in a slotted headstock arrangement with Black Cherry neck and a slightly U/C-shaped profile that’s somewhat reminiscent of a Gypsy Jazz feel. A soundport at the upper bout gives the player a little more “me in the monitor,” and the custom Kent Armstrong humbucker is rigged with volume and tone knobs under the Ebony pickguard.

I have been hand building a very small number of primarily archtop guitars every year since opening my very own shop in 2003. I made my first guitar a decade previously, starting at the age of 14. Since then my guitars have been purchased and played by some of the world’s best guitarists. My instruments are valued in the Vintage Guitar Price Guide and collected by players and aficionados around the world.
Not only is this my lifelong passion but it is the bread and butter of my family and I take all serious inquiries for my guitars with the upmost of respect and attention.
