Dressed to the nines with black to spare! We’ve landed a lovely little Custom Shop 0-14 from Martin that’s sharp dressed and fun. Mahogany back and sides with Sitka Spruce on top, hardly any marks since its birth in 2016, and a setup Plek’d to perfection for the previous owner, this Custom Shop is a powerful little cannon. Claro Walnut bindings (and pickguard) set off the high gloss black finish nicely, and the sub four pound playing weight makes this Custom Shop 0-14 a feather in your hands.

The nylon string crossover guitar is a perfect choice for the steel string player who wants to get into Classical, or anyone who just wants an easy playing experience and the sweet, round warmth that comes from nylon strings. The folks working with George Lowden have put together an exquisite example of this niche instrument here with our 2015 S-25J in Indian Rosewood and Cedar. This beauty has a 1 13/16” nut for extra left hand room, Venetian Cutaway for uninterrupted fretboard access, and a Fishman Matrix Infinity pickup system to carry you faithfully onto the stage. The neck carve features a generous C profile that will feel familiar to steel string players, and we love how well this Lowden plays with its Plek’d setup.

George Lowden’s S-50 strikes the razor’s edge balance between small and large bodiies, retaining the power of a big box and the clarity and warmth of a 00 or 000. This S-50 from 2017 is a beautiful example of this balance, here in Madagascar Rosewood and Alpine Spruce. We love this guitar. The word that kept coming up for us while playing it was “Intimate.” As in, close, personal, a familiar voice in your ear. This S-50 has sweet trebles, and the kind of string-to-string balance that is crucial in a fingerstyle guitar. Plek’d for the previous owner, it plays like butter!

James Taylor does it right, and so does James Olson. This JT Copy is an absolute powerhouse, orchestra-in-a-box, a room filler. Built in 2015 as a clone of the ultra primo top tier James Taylor Signature Olson with a set of BRW that Jim was planning to keep for himself for a retirement guitar, this Olson plays like organic, grass-fed butter, and soaks up fingerstyle arrangements like a sonic sponge. Abalone appointments (right down to the dove inlays along the fretboard), Florentine cutaway, and of course the L.R. Baggs LB6 undersaddle pickup for the classic James Taylor/James Olson amplified tone. The Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, and Cedar top, were handpicked by Jim for the original owner of this guitar, a personal friend of both ours and Jim’s! And to round it all out, this beauty has been Plek’d to perfection! An easier-playing Olson we challenge you to find.

We’ve been eagerly awaiting this Thompson for some time—and with it in hand, our expectations have been more than met. The fine team at Preston Thompson Guitars has managed to coax 200% tone out of 100% beautiful tonewoods: their revered Shipwreck Brazilian Rosewood and shade topped Adirondack Spruce. This is their first 45-style Dreadnought, built in honor of the late Preston Thompson as the fruition of one of his dreams. Abalone appointments throughout, glassy playability, and an immensely dynamic, balanced, and comprehensive voice. One of the most articulate, clear Dreadnoughts we’ve had the honor of playing.
This tour de force has already found a new home with an owner who’s just as excited as we are, but give us a shout if you want the next one coming down the line!

Blues machine, anyone? The folks at Froggy Bottom Guitars have mastered the art of building a modern small bodied guitar that doesn’t want for volume, or tone. The Froggy Bottom L body is based on an old Martin 1-17 restored by Millard, and the result is a slim little instrument that very easy on the hands and the lap (this one from 2016 weighs in at 3.5lbs!). An excellent choice for fingerpicking blues, rags, or whatever your fingerstyle heart yearns for. Woah. This is a monster of a guitar; Stefan nailed it with this Model 1 from 1998. Brazilian Rosewood and German Spruce with a 16 3/8” lower bout and domed back/top! Very energetic, with a quick and lively response. This Sobell is a fingerstyle force to be reckoned with, a natural choice for DADGAD or C9—but Standard holds its own just fine as well. This one has seen some action since its 1998 birthdate, and it’s got a supremely opened up voice to prove it. Our repair staff went over it tuner to tail and we’re happy to give it a clean bill of health. Ready for more!

Mahogany back and sides with old growth Sitka Spruce on top, weighing in at a touch over four pounds, and playing oh so smoothly with a glassy setup. We adore this Halland. It’s energetic and lively, well balanced between trebles and bass, and when combined with easy playability it makes for a guitar that’s easy to lose track of time in. EVO frets, pinless bridge in the Greenfield style, and a Hoffee flight case to keep it safe and sound—this Halland OM-H is the complete package.

We’ve just landed a smooth-as-silk Lowden F-50 in African Blackwood and Sinker Redwood that nails it when it comes to balance, clarity, and playability. This 2016 beauty is like new, comes outfitted with a Ryan-style arm bevel and Hiscox flight case, and 5-ply neck for a stable playing experience. The previous owner Plek’d this Lowden to effortlessness; playing as easy as breathing with this F-50. The F body strikes a fine balance in the midsize category, granting it plenty of bass and projection without being unwieldy in your arms. The tonewoods are top notch here, and we’re such a sucker for African Blackwood when it’s paired with Redwood—a velvety, rich, enveloping tonality.

We are Jordan’s exclusive representative, and he is no longer taking orders but building guitars to his own specifications. Interested? Give us a shout!

Australian luthier Ashley Sanders crafts an incredible guitar, hands down. This Classical is relatively new from 2018, but has an impressively opened up voice and responsiveness. Ziricote back and sides with a lattice braced Cedar top, Rubner deluxe tuners and Snakewood buttons—and this Australian-style Classical only weighs in at five pounds. The Ziricote back is slightly arched à la Greg Smallman, adding volume and power to the voice. 12-hole tieblock for increased break angle at the saddle, and Sanders added side dots at the 5th and 7th fret for creature comfort.

This 2017 Buendia OM Cutaway is a dream-come-true kind of guitar: African Blackwood back and sides, Swiss Alpine Spruce on top, exquisite string-to-string balance, sweetly easy playability; an effortless guitar. Here’s a pretty piece that’s just as easy on the hands and ears! This 2017 Taylor Custom GA came out of Taylor’s Build To Order program, and is here outfitted with gorgeous Amazon Rosewood (which Taylor no longer works with, so this beauty is a unique one) back and sides and a rich Redwood top. Gold Gotoh tuners and a K&K Pure Mini pickup, plus the famous Taylor setup, come together for a smooth, smooth, smooth guitar experience. We love the satin neck; never sticky, no matter how sweaty the hands! And the Amazon RW combines with Redwood for a clean, balanced voice that’s characterized by warmth and articulation.

Silk-tongued with full bodied projection and range: our 2018 Baranik Meridian Concert. We love the lively, energetic response of the trebles, especially how well they pair with the mids and glassy bottom end. With Mike’s adjustable neck pocket, this Baranik is only ever a turn of an allen key away from perfect playability—and boy does it play sweetly. This Meridian straddles the line between fingerstyle and flatpicking exceedingly well; we really can’t decide which approach we like more.
Brazilian Rosewood back and sides (check out the sapwood center!), Colorado Blue Spruce on top with Snakewood bindings and striking blue appointments. Gotoh tuners, Ameritage case, and a well-rounded neck carve that’s glassy in hand.

There may be no such thing as the perfect guitar, but this 2018 McConnell is just about as close as you’re going to get. Jordan’s unique brand of lutherie makes for some of the most inspirational guitars we’ve ever seen, and this 2018 16 Inch model does. not. disappoint. This is Jordan’s first African Blackwood guitar, topped with Swiss Moonspruce and trimmed out with matching arm and rib bevels. Spiraling along the fretboard and headstock (before swirling around the soundhole is a combination of Satinwood, African Blackwood, Ebony, and Madagascar Rosewood. Rodgers tuners (of course), French Polish on top for maximum resonance, and a fabulous example of Jordan’s carved bridge (here in Madagascar Rosewood). Oh, and then there’s the multiscale fretboard (26 to 25 inches) for dialed in ergonomics and intonation across a spectrum of tunings.
