Gorgeous to a fault, with crisp trebles and a well-tempered midrange for even response and sweet, sweet clarity. This 2015 D-150 from Bourgeois and co is a fabulous Bluegrass machine. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides (check out that extravagant figure), Adirondack Spruce on top and hide glue construction throughout. Ivoroid bindings, Waverly tuners, and a soft V neck with silky setup for effortless playability. This Bourgeois has been well cared for, and has hardly a mark on it.

A guitar for every occasion. This 2011 RGC6 from Del Langejans is a robustly dynamic instrument that performs equally well for fingerpicking as for strumming, amplified with an L.R. Baggs Anthem system or acoustically. Rosewood neck pairs with an Indian Rosewood body and Port Orford Cedar top, plus pale Maple bindings to round it all out. Zero fret, gold Gotoh tuners, and a Venetian Cutaway to boot! This beauty comes wrapped up in a well-fitted Cedar Creek case, and it’s raring to go.

The voice is well balanced for the player who mixes and matches between fingerpicking and strumming, and we found it handled D tunings well to boot. Wrapped up in a Cedar Creek case for stylish safe keeping.

And then there’s something quite different. We’ve got an exquisitely unique 2018 Holey Steelcaster from James Trussart that is guaranteed to stand apart from the crowd. The color package is “Rust on Cream Racing Stripes,” and you’ll find a perforated steel body with Maple neck/Pau Ferro fingerboard. Kluson tuners, Arcane Inc. pickups, and a gorgeous G&G case to boot. Additionally, the tone knob has a push-pull to split the pickups.

2011 Martin 00-45SC John Mayer Stagecoach Edition, Cocobolo/Adirondack Spruce

Superstar John Mayer, working with Martin Guitars, makes for a unique instrument. And that’s an understatement. With this limited run of 25 00-45SC Stagecoach Editions in 2011, Mayer and Martin paired brick-red Cocobolo Rosewood back and side sets with Adirondack Spruce tops in a 12-fret 00 package, and trimmed everything out with select Blue Paua Abalone. Pay attention to the rings of the rosette—you’ll see they continue across the fretboard extension as well. Down the center of the headstock is a 1902 alternate torch in Abalone. Waverly tuners flank the torch on either side in squared slots.

2015 Martin OM-28 Authentic 1931, Madagascar Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce

Martin folks did it so well back in the day, Martin folks these days are taking note (for note) with their Authentic line. This handsome OM-28 Authentic 1931 is a charmer with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, Adirondack Spruce, and otherwise matching specs to Martin’s vintage 1931 OM-28 model. That means hide glue construction, scalloped bracing on top, and Martin’s VTS (Vintage Tone System) for pre-aging the tonewoods for added vintage presence. Over everything Martin also applied their Vintage Gloss finish, which is a thinner and less shiny finish that you’ll find on other contemporary models.
The voice on this 2015 OM-28 Authentic is lively, warm, and responsive. An even decay across the registers makes for clean projection and sustain, and it’s such a versatile fellow for both fingerstyle and flat picking.

2004 Goodall CGC, Cocobolo/Adirondack Spruce

Oh, yeah. Goodalls are so good, it’s hard to find a bad note anywhere on the fretboard. We love this 2004 CGC in Cocobolo and Adirondack Spruce—lots of power under the hood when you crank it, and a shockingly rich and syrup-sweet voice from the red Cocobolo body. Figured Maple bindings and an Abalone rosette and headstock logo are the only dressed up points, which allows the beauty of the tonewoods to shine out center stage. This CGC is very fun to play, and boy does it love to sing. An excellent choice for an all-around, all-applications, all-time powerhouse acoustic.

Take that Dread and shrink it down! We’ve got a brand new 3/4 Dreadnought from our own Larry Brown that’s a lively lil cannon with Pau Ferro back and sides and an Adirondack Spruce top. With a 23 inch scale, this petite powerhouse is string light and tuned up to G. It’s a super fun flatpicker with a quick and chirpy response that sets it apart from the standard Dreadnought camp. This one also features Larry’s adjustable neck pocket, so one turn of a screwdriver will have the action dialed up or down to your needs, as needed, every time.

1900s Larson Brothers Stahl Style 6, Brazilian Rosewood/Spruce

We love the unique corner of prewar lutherie occupied by the Larson Brothers. Reputed to have built hundred and hundreds of instruments, never under their own name, these brothers have created a body of work that stands apart from other prewar builders on my levels. One particular label of theirs was Stahl, and we’ve got a lovely example of their Style 6 here today. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides over Spruce, 12 frets to the body and gone over by our repair staff with a clean bill of health! At some point, this Stahl was refinished, so it’s got a mix of newer gloss look and vintage, prewar volume and presence. An immensely fun little guitar, it handles fingerpicking just as easily as strumming and flatpick work too.

2015 Lowden Pierre Bensusan Signature, Honduran Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce

If it’s good enough for DADGAD maestro Pierre Bensusan, it’s good enough for us. Our Bensusan Signature Lowden is a smooth operator from tuner to tail. Built in 2015 but with hardly any marks at all, this Lowden is in excellent shape with Honduran Rosewood back and sides and an Adirondack Spruce top, and the Lowden Fingerstyle Neck profile. Of course it’s a fabulous DADGAD instrument. The satin finish will prevent any accidental audience blindness when you’re on stage, and the arm bevel keeps you playing as easy as breathing. Fit and finish is flawless, the woods spectacular, the guitar on a whole living up to its signature namesake, Mr. Pierre Bensusan.

2014 Santa Cruz Style 1, Brazilian Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce

Richard Hoover and his team of time-tested luthiers offer a stable of incredible instruments for every walk of an acoustic guitarist’s life. We’ve recently taken in a 2014 Style 1 with Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce that is a killer example of the Santa Cruz team at the top of their game. The Style 1 is based off Martin’s Size 1 guitar, which around the turn of the century (well, last century) was one of their largest guitar models. How times change! Today, the SCGC Style 1 is a compact, easy-playing, and rich-singing guitar that’s a great choice for fingerpicking blues, sweet old time accompaniment, or really whatever the musician’s heart desires. This beauty has Herringbone trim, 12 frets to the neck, and a slotted headstock with Gotoh tuners, and the whole package comes wrapped up in a snug Ameritage case.

Leo Buendia is at the top of his game, and the top of our list of favorite builders—this 2019 Modified Dreadnought is top of the line. Leo’s finest Brazilian Rosewood sets are a step below the BRW here, and on top you’ll find creamy Moonspruce and one of Leo’s painstakingly rendered chip carved rosettes (and a matching endgraft). Short scale, 14 frets to the neck, and a Florentine Cutaway with a slick setup for effortless playability. The voice is rich, oh so rich. With power to spare. Fingerstyle royalty. This Buendia Mod D is the sort of guitar that even bad notes sound good.

2016 Zemaitis CS24PF Ring Chess

Here we have a lovely Japanese-built Zemaitis CS24PF “Ring Chess” that’s a 2016 model, nearly new in condition, and shining like a silver dollar. African Mahogany body and neck, Schaller tuners and custom DiMarzio humbucker PAF pickups. Three way switch, two volume and two tone knobs. The top features a sprawling mosaic of Abalone and Mother-Of-Pearl.

2018 Redgate Double Top, Ziricote/Cedar

A powerhouse. This like new, 2018 Redgate Double Top is an absolute powerhouse, with elegance and musicality to match. The trebles have a strong and vigorous profile that really leaps out of the soundhole, but balances sweetly with the rest of the voice. Ziricote back and sides are here paired with a Cedar double top, Spanish Cedar neck, and an intricate mosaic knot rosette. Jim finished the neck and body with glossy Lacquer, and elected to French Polish the top to a maximally thin matte finish to keep the top plate as resonant as possible—a feat he accomplishes handily here. The entire instrument weighs a slim 3lbs 10oz, has a medium thickness U neck profile, and a 12-hole tieblock.

2003 National Reso-Phonic Style 3

The original household name when it comes to resonator guitars—National Reso-Phonic is our hands down favorite. We just landed a fantastic example of a 2003 Style 3 tricone in Polished Brass with gorgeous lily-of-the-valley engraving along the top, sides, back, and resonator plate. Basically every metal surface except the frets! The setup is slick and easy and currently dialed in for fingerstyle play rather than as a dedicated slide guitar. At about nine and a half pounds, this National is no featherweight, but we feel that girth translates into sweet, fat, juicy tone that’s hard to find elsewhere.

2019 Olson Collector Series, The Tree Mahogany/Italian Spruce

To celebrate his 1600th guitar, James Olson pulled out all the stops. This SJ comes bedecked with shockingly beautiful Blue Paua Abalone, The Tree Mahogany back and sides, and an Italian Spruce top from the Fiemme Valley. Larry Robinson executed an impressive inlay scheme along the fretboard to celebrate this milestone guitar. Honestly, one builder reaching 1600 guitars? Simply incredible. This one came in, and went right back out the door before we could even list it.

2018 Big Hollow OM, Koa/Lutz Spruce

Oh, the joy of playing a light, lively, responsive guitar. This Big Hollow OM is nearly new from 2018, features primo tonewoods (Lutz Spruce on top, Flamed Koa back and sides), and plays like a sweet dream. The trim punching weight of under 4lbs makes for a comfortable session guitar, and the satin-finished neck is equally easy on the hands. The balance from bass to treble is even and smooth, which we often find on the best Koa guitars, but there’s a sweetness unique to the treble response that really sets this Big Hollow apart from the crowd. Alessi tuners, Bevan’s upgraded MOP girl inlaid into the headstock, and Bloodwood bindings are just some of the upgrades (there are Gold EVO frets and an Ameritage case as well).

2017 Casimi C2S, Pernambuco/Lucky Strike Redwood

Our latest Casimi is a sight to see, and a wonder to hear. This C2S was built in 2017 for a discerning client with dramatic Pernambuco back and sides and a, well, striking set of Lucky Strike Redwood on top. We find that the Pernambuco gives the voice an evenness and definition that would be a touch dry, but when paired with the Lucky Strike top the result is a smoothness and velvety texture that is pretty distinct from most of what we hear coming out of guitars these days.
The sides are inlaid with vines and Mayan glyphs which dovetail with the Mayan-inflected raised rosette (a Casimi hallmark) and endgraft. Red purflings along the Ebony bindings and arm bevel set off the Pernambuco and Redwood, and like all Casimis this C2S features a 12-fret neck join and deep Florentine Cutaway, their unique pinless bridge, and hollow headstock with Gotoh 510 tuners. All this comes wrapped up in a Hoffee flight case, rest assured.

2015 Michaud Made 00, The Tree Mahogany/Swiss Spruce

Balance and elegance are the first two words that come to mind with this guitar in hand. Joel Michaud’s sense of line, curve—and most importantly, tone—come together in this 2015 00-R in a way that many builders aim for, but few achieve. The woods are top shelf: The Tree Mahogany back and sides, Swiss Spruce on top—and Joel crafted a rosette that’s sunk into the top for a distinct touch. Next to that is a tapered fretboard extension that offers the elusive 24th fret to the fearless musician who needs to go so high. A sharp Florentine Cutaway and Scheller tuners round out the image.
The tone is smooth and easy, balanced from bass to treble, and this Michaud is set up for effortless playability. The smaller body dimensions, combined with a short 25” scale, make for warm, round trebles, and we love how Joel manages to keep the guitar’s response so even along the fretboard. This Michaud is a collector grade piece, and we’re honored to offer it to you.
