Here we’ve landed a brand new C-Stage classical from Istanbul’s Ramin Fallah, dressed up with premium tonewoods and some fresh aesthetics to envigorate the classical format. Amazon Rosewood back and sides pair up with a European Spruce top that features lots of dramatic bearclaw figuring and is french polished for maximum resonance. The body is finished elsewhere with poly for added durability. 650mm scale plus a 52mm nut will feel right at home, and at the headstock we find a understated geometric motif inlaid into the Wenge headplate that adds a touch of modernity that we find quite refreshing. Additionally, Ramin has installed his take on a soundport at the bass side upper bout, a feature that aids the player in hearing their tone.

Here’s one for the professionals out there. Stephen Strahm’s Eros model, especially this lovely number from 2021 with German Spruce over Granadillo, has great balance across the registers, a clean projection, and lots of headroom. In short, a guitar that you can do just about anything with. Lean in, and it’s got growl. Pull back, and a touch of sweetness in the mids will warm things up. We had as much fun playing fast as slow, in standard or down to DADGAD. It’s fun! Energetic, quick, one you don’t want to put down.

What could be better than working with a great client and one of our favorite builders for a custom project? This Klein & Kauffman 426 was the result of one such collaboration, and it couldn’t have turned out better. We decided on a dramatically figured Brazilian Rosewood body with European Spruce on top, plus a multiscale setup to allow for a range of altered tunings. The result is the trademark Klein bass response, plus punchy mids and a clean top end with some sweet overtones. Riches abound! Additionally, Steve dressed this up a soundport, custom Hoffee case and cover, and we even got Larry Robinson to inlay a vibrant, iridescent lotus at the headstock. Along the fretboard are correspondingly colorful Abalone block position markers.

T.J. is centered in the traditional Martin style of building, with this 2007 OM-45 playing and feeling right at home alongside the prewar originals. Bar frets, V neck, gorgeous dark Abalone throughout–and a touch of modernity with a Schertler pickup system. With an upgraded Karura flight case, this T.J. Now here’s something to lose track of time with. Michi manages to make every one of his guitars a unique experience, acoustically as well as visually and ergonomically. Fine art meets function in the guitar form. This 2021 Matsuda M1 is a force of nature. Brazilian Rosewood body with Italian Spruce top, an expansive voice that mixes up smoothly across the registers and has a capacious midrange that fills out big chords. Played hard, soft, fingers or picks, this Matsuda is equally at home in each scenario. The trebles also have a liquid, glassy quality that transforms into sweet overtones when you let notes linger. Aesthetically, the fretboard and headstock are dressed up with a custom Larry Robinson koi fish inlay scheme to set off the spalted rosette and top appointments. Florentine cutaway, plus a carved heel that allows the left hand to synch up more closely to the fingerboard, and a smoothly contoured C profile neck, make for an effortless playing experience. Scale length is 25.25”, a sweet spot between short and long scales that works well in a range of tunings. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime guitar, look no further.

Add to Compare2014 Ribbecke “Imagine” Halfling Pin Bridge Archtop, Indian Rosewood/Cedar
Bring to mind the video of John Lennon and Yoko Ono for “Imagine.” You know the one: it begins with the two walking along a misty path, and before long John is sitting at an all-white piano in an all-white room of an all-white country estate singing one of their most famous songs. Tom Ribbecke took this alabaster image to heart when he first conceived of this particular Halfling pin bridge archop project.
Indian Rosewood back and sides are paired with a three-piece Maple neck Cedar top which are both painted a creamy white. Simple Ebony bindings and trim delineate Rosewood from Spruce, and the Ebony pickguard and bridge set off the milky expanse of Ribbecke’s Halfling top plate—bass-side flat, treble-side arched—and the offset soundhole balances out the image. Beneath the hood lies a B-Band 22r UST pickup with volume control mounted inside the soundhole and terminates in the end pin jack. A 1 3/4” nut and 25.4” scale feel right at home on the gently curved C profile neck, and the setup is dialed in for slinky playability.
The voice is round, focused, and warm at the edges, with hints of punchiness in the bass. It’s not quite a flattop for brashness, and it’s not all the way an archtop for woof, but it blends the two in such a way that individual notes are three-dimensional and distinct, and they have a habit of hanging in the air. It’s easy to spend a long time exploring the tonal (to say nothing of the visual) nuances of Ribbecke’s unique top voicing techniques and the ability of his pin bridge archtops to provide a unique flavor to a wide range of genres and playing styles.
