2006 Borges 000-28, All-Koa
An incredibly gorgeous 2006 all-Koa 000-28 from Julias Borges—yes, that rhyme was intentional, and no, we are not sorry. Nearly 20 years old at the time of publishing, this 12-fret wonder is truly a fingerpicker’s delight, with 1 13/16” at the nut and 2 3/8” at the saddle. This guitar has so much to offer: an inspirational voice that has opened up beautifully over the years, well-maintained condition, and the promise of many more years of music and inspiration for its next owner.

2011 Borges 000-12 Fret, Madagascar Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce
Julius Borges knows how to utilize every square inch. This 000 form 2011 has an expansive voice that belies its petite proportions, with the perfect amount of balance and definition between the registers to make fingerstyle work absolutely sing. This gorgeous Borges is upgraded with arrow-striaght Madagascar Rosewood back and sides (looks strikingly like the best prewar BRW Martin stock) and Adirondack Spruce on top, fine herringbone trim, plus pyramid bridge for the classic flattop aesthetic. The setup is silky smooth and easy on the hands, with a 12-fret body join for extra warmth and a medium thick neck carve.

2022 Boucher BG-52, Indian Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce
2022 Bluegrass Goose from Boucher Guitars of Canada. We don’t often think of geese in relation to bluegrass—but then again, Canada doesn’t usually come to mind either—and that’s exactly why dubbing this model the ‘Bluegrass Goose’ works so well. A powerhouse of a guitar that, despite its name, doesn’t sound honky in the slightest. It delivers clear, classic D-28 tone and appointments, with herringbone trim, maple binding, and a satin-finished neck. Pure, simple, and straight to the point—just like the best bluegrass music. Brand New Bouchereau Mistral OM-C, Wenge/Sitka Spruce
This brand-new (2022) Bouchereau Mistral OM-C (Serial #27) is a striking modern build that pairs visual elegance with tonal depth. What a powerhouse we have here in this 2010 A-1c by Laurent Brondel. Dressed in Malaysian Blackwood and German Spruce—Laurent’s guitars never disappoint and this is no exception. What is exceptional about this instrument however is the bracing. Loaded with a laminated “Larson-style” bracing–this guitar is built for power. It goes without saying there is plenty of headroom here, deep bass as well as strong and sparkling trebles. This dreadnought-sized cutaway is comfortable in hand. Roomy and spacious in both feel and sound. Laurent’s signature arched, rather than domed, top and back certainly contribute to this sense of comfort. As well as the warm and natural aesthetic, this Brondel A-1c feels like home.

2023 Canteri GCMS, Madagascar Rosewood/Italian Spruce
2023 Canteri Grand Concert Multiscale — what a treat. A 25″–26″ scale length and excellent modern deconstructed motifs using all-wood and metal materials give this guitar a very earthy, warm aesthetic. There’s a certain immediacy to the response that feels robust and precise in a distinctly modern way. Amber-button Gotoh tuners, EVO frets, Florentine cutaway, and a series of beautifully carved wooden inlays round out the look.
The Madagascar Rosewood is gorgeous and really out front in the tonal mix—glassy, rich, and articulate. And the Italian Spruce top delivers exactly what fingerstylists love: bell-like chime, clarity, and shimmer. A very cool, very musical modern build.
