2014 Buscarino Starlight Nylon, Maple/Swamp Ash
I wish I may, I wish I might—this 2014 Buscarino Starlight transcends the crossover nylon stereotype. Wide spacing for a crossover and narrow spacing for a classical make it incredibly versatile, and it’s equipped with an LR Baggs LB-6 undersaddle pickup. Ridiculously nice figured woods throughout (Swamp Ash and Quilted Maple). Equal parts serenade and shred—grab this one before it’s gone.

2010 Buscarino Virtuoso, Honduran Mahogany/Sitka Spruce
John Buscarino builds some of the finest guitars around, bar none. Having studied with two master luthiers—Augustine LoPrinzi and Bob Benedetto—John’s credentials speak for themselves. Every guitar he makes is rare, often customized, and each one highly distinct from the last. This 2010 Virtuoso is a truly rare bird, crafted from Plum Pudding–figured Mahogany with a Sitka Spruce top.
Over more than a decade, this guitar has had time to open up beautifully while being exceptionally well cared for. The result is an instrument that looks every bit the masterpiece and sounds even better. Tonally, this Virtuoso delivers the clarity and power we’ve come to expect from John, with a warmth that envelops the player. Whether swing, gypsy, or straight-ahead jazz, this guitar rises to the occasion with ease and inspiration.

2023 Canteri GCMS, Madagascar Rosewood/Italian Spruce
2023 Canteri Grand Concert Multiscale — what a treat. A 25″–26″ scale length and excellent modern deconstructed motifs using all-wood and metal materials give this guitar a very earthy, warm aesthetic. There’s a certain immediacy to the response that feels robust and precise in a distinctly modern way. Amber-button Gotoh tuners, EVO frets, Florentine cutaway, and a series of beautifully carved wooden inlays round out the look.
The Madagascar Rosewood is gorgeous and really out front in the tonal mix—glassy, rich, and articulate. And the Italian Spruce top delivers exactly what fingerstylists love: bell-like chime, clarity, and shimmer. A very cool, very musical modern build.

Brand New Caton Carolina, Macassar Ebony/Carpathian Spruce
Kevin Caton’s Carolina model packs a wallop. With a 16 inch lower bout, this Carolina has lots of real estate for tone generation, which the Macassar Ebony body and Carpathian Spruce top take immediate advantage of. Great headroom allows for a heavier attack, with a strong fundamental in the bass register and some sparkling overtones on the top end. Kevin’s asymmetrical upper bout design allows for easy fingerboard access without compromising the amount of air the body can move, and looks fresh and modern to boot. When you factor in the geometric motifs at the endgraft, rosette, heelcap, and headplate, this Caton Carolina stands out from the crowd in all the right ways.

2008 Charis SJ, Amazon Rosewood/Cedar
A Bill Wise masterpiece. 2008 Charis SJ in Amazon Rosewood and Cedar, 5-ply Mahogany neck, Wenge arm and rib bevels for added player comfort, 25.5” scale for crisp, powerful response—the list goes on. This is a fabulous fingerstyle instrument, and with the addition of a Florentine Cutaway and a soundport in the upper bout keeps you in tune with your tunes. Bill’s guitars are famously easy to play, a nod to Jim Olson’s builds with a slim neck carve and SJ body dimensions, and this 2008 SJ is no exception. Silky smooth and quick. Gotoh Delta tuners, Calton flight case, and custom diamond fretboard inlays round it all out.

1997 Collings OM41E, Indian Rosewood/Engelmann Spruce
1997 Collings OM-41E with Indian Rosewood back and sides and an Engelmann Spruce top. This OM is truly astounding. The Art Nouveau fingerboard inlays and torch headstock detail lend it an elegant, almost austere look—but the real magic lies in the tone. Indian Rosewood is sometimes dismissed as a lesser tonewood, but this guitar would cause an existential crisis for anyone who believes that.
Built during one of the most coveted eras in Collings history, and further enhanced by the natural alchemy of time, this instrument has depth, personality, and power in spades. It’s a perfect example of just how dynamic and expressive an OM can be. There are a few honest signs of age, but they translate directly into character and enormous sound. Do yourself a favor and give this one a listen.
