Few names are so well recognized in popular music as David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame. In 2021, Martin collaborated with Mr. Gilmour for an exclusive Signature Edition run of 250 guitars. These were soon all snatched up, but we’ve managed to land one, no. 27, here in the shop.
The David Gilmour signature models are the first D-35s ever made with neck, back and sides of Sinker Mahogany, chosen by David for its warm, rich tones and exquisitely beautiful grain. VTS Adirondack Spruce on top to be broken in and wide awake right out of the gate. A bespoke neck shape & fingerboard pattern were crafted to David’s specification for this guitar, while a special headstamp is featured on the reverse of the headstock. Every label was hand-signed by David; look into the soundhole and you’ll find his very hand just below “#27.” Additionally, we have included a customized Elliott capo engraved with the words, “Gilmour D-35,” to make this most exclusive Martin just a little bit more rare.
Ready for the crown jewel of your collection? The 2021 D-35 David Gilmour awaits.Other keywords: lutherie, luthier, c.f. martin, martin guitars, 35 style, dreadnaught, 2449909, fingerstyle, 3 piece, signature guitar

Where to begin? This 1934 Martin 000-28 has stood the test of time in mores ways that one. We love seeing a guitar of vintage such as this come through the shop, particularly when it shows wear in all the right places. It sounds amazing now and frankly appears to have always sounded so. 89 years has really allowed this instrument to open up, the tight grain of the Adirondack Spruce, and the uniformity of the Brazilian Rosewood almost give away the incredible timbre of this instrument. This is the OG of fingerstyle guitars and when you pick this up it is obvious as to why greats such as Eric Clapton, John Mayer, and so many others have made this their signature acoustic. What more could anyone want in a vintage acoustic guitar.

In a word, gorgeous. Howard Klepper pulled off an excellent conversion job with this 2013 00-40 which began life in 1960 as a Martin 00-28G. Accordingly, quarter sawn Brazilian Rosewood with some delectable feathered figuring at the bout ends, with a new Red Spruce top and 14-fret neck. Klepper added 40-style Abalone trim along the top, as well as diamonds & snowflakes position markers, Rosewood bridge, and Ivoroid bindings. A light brown shade top finish pairs up with the richness of the Brazilian sides to a T.

A great example of an early ’50s Martin D-28 that’s been played a lot over the years, and is in great playing shape for many more to come. This one comes to us from the period when Martin was still using Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, by the 1950s they were using Sitka Spruce tops. There are some repairs, see our specs tabs for more details, but our repair staff have gone over this instrument from tuners to tail to confirm a clean bill of health. 1951 is a good year with this beauty in your hands.

This guitar is the stuff of legends, the original Holy Grail against which contemporary guitars are measured. A 1930 Martin 000-45: the tone, playability, and appointments that made Martin Guitars the industry standard are here represented in an amazingly well-preserved form. This 000-45 is all original (down to the cast iron key for the case)–really, the odds of you coming across another 1930 000-45 in this condition are incredibly small. After all only 21 were made in 1930. This particular 000-45 is historically significant also as it’s a 12-fret that has the belly bridge. Both are design features that offer optimum tone, this one just about jumps out of your lap.
Moreover, this Martin plays as easy as glass, after a neck reset performed by our repair gurus, so it’s as easy as breathing to excite these strings and let the past 86 years of good vibrations come pouring out of the soundhole. How such a guitar could still be in such excellent condition, we don’t know–but we’re glad this piece of history has been spared the vagaries of time, and continues to sing as easily as in 1930.

A gorgeous example of an early 40s Martin, this 00-18 comes to us from 1942 specifically and is in excellent playing shape today in 2023. The Mahogany/Adirondack Spruce combo is a timeless classic for a reason–powerful and quick and clear–and with so many decades of opening up and drying out they’re even better. Slightly slim neck feel in hand, a few light marks making it feel like shaking hands with an old friend. It’s so lightweight it practically floats. It’s had all the necessary maintenance taken care of, with a recent neck reset and fret dress. Tuners, bridge, and pins have been replaced; finish has signs of typical play wear but appears original, as do the bridge plate and braces. Comes in a new Calton case that fits snug as a bug. All in all, a powerhouse in a petite package, energetic and fun–this 1942 Martin 00-18 is an American classic.
