Karura case designs have been laboratory certified to withstand over 1000 kg (2200 lbs) over one ton!) of compression without structural failure or permanent deformation. Very low deflection even under these extreme loads prevents your guitars from being crushed when packed under heavy loads.
Karura has completed extensive controlled drop testing on its case designs to that the Karura case shell and suspension system protect the instrument from extreme mishandling. During each drop test, a single case (and instrument) is dropped from 16 different orientations (all major axes plus the 45s) from a height two meters (6.5 Feet) onto a concrete floor. At the conclusion of this these tests, there was no damage to any of the instruments.

Each Visesnut case features an adjustable support developed and patented worldwide by Visesnut. This includes a built-in support belt, protective padding, and neck support cushion. The built-in support belt is adjustable to embrace and hold securely many different guitar body shapes and sizes, allowing one Visesnut case to give the excellent effect of custom-fitting more than one guitar.
The interior padding is lined with a well-selected soft and smooth material. The padding has the ability to memorize shape. Together with the support belt and the neck support cushion, it helps to ensure firm support resulting in the least possible movement of the guitar inside the case. Once the support belt is adjusted to fit a guitar, the size and shape details of the guitar are memorized by the padding material at that time, and the supporting means is always ready to be adjusted for another particular guitar for the next use. The material, however, recovers its shape, if the support belt is readjusted to carry different guitars. The case body has a double-walled structure for enhanced protection. It is designed to withstand certain stress loads and absorb impact from drops and shocks. The double-walled structure also acts as an insulation that minimizes the effect of sudden temperature changes on the guitar by decelerating the transfer of temperature into the case.

- Thinsulate brand insulation to mitigate the effects of extreme temperature conditions. Thinsulate is installed in the case under the foam and fabric, so you won’t see it. But you’ll know it’s there when you open the case and pick up your instrument on a blistering or freezing day. Thinsulate is made in the US by the 3M Corporation
- Comfortable, high quality padded carrying straps in shoulder (single strap) and backpack (double strap) configurations. Straps clip on and off D-rings securely mounted to the case, and are made for us right here in the USA by Neotech
- Twist latches for those who prefer an alternative to locking draw latches. A padlock hasp at the center position allows the user to install a lock of your choice, including a TSA lock.

How are Calton Cases made? By hand and with love. While Calton CNC initial plugs and molds for testing new styles and shapes, once they’ve tested the cases—inside and out—they are made by hand. Without giving away too many secrets, here is how they do it:
- Measurements: we rely on you (and your dealer) for precise measurements of your instruments. This ensures the perfect fit.
- Exterior I: three layers of hand-laid fiberglass build the foundation for the side walls, tops and bottoms of each case.
- Exterior II: once the fiberglass shell is trimmed, up to 97 rivets are used to adhere latches, catch surrounds (leather bumpers), protective feet and a custom leather handle.
- Interior Stage I: gluing of the rubber trim and initial placement of interior fabric, foam and lining.
- Interior Stage II: cutting and assembly of the remaining foam layers and final velvet placement.
- Squeaky Clean: we call this the “detailing” stage where we meticulously polish exteriors and vacuum interiors.
- Final Inspection: every square inch of every case is looked over, making sure it is ready for the road. We add your label (with serial number) and ship!

From one of the most refined builders on the modern scene, this 2024 Jordan McConnell 15″ is a stunning example of tone and luthiery. Though this particular instrument was never in our shop—photos were provided directly by Jordan—it absolutely represents the level of quality and artistry we’ve come to expect from him.
This guitar features German Maple back and sides paired with a master grade Swiss Moonspruce top. Many luthiers attempt to combine tradition with modernity, very few succeed in this endeavor. However John Slobod delivers time after time– This 000 Cutaway from 2015 showcases this flawlessly. Here we have a 12-fret small body guitar with the look and feel of a classic fingerstyle guitar but the makeup of something more. Panamanian Rosewood with EVO Frets are not apart of your grandpa’s flattop. This guitar feels right at home with travis picking, flatpicking, you name it. On the other hand it leaves nothing desired for the more modern picker. This instrument does it all, it’s comfortable, dynamic and so enthralling. Hard to put it down.

Brand New Laskin Chaos, African Blackwood/Sitka Spruce
The second half of Grit Laskin’s inspired pair, Calm and Chaos, this large-body cutaway guitar is Chaos—an instrument that trades serenity for spectacle, balance for movement, and invites you into a world where myth, history, and a touch of whimsy all collide.
Built with African Blackwood back and sides and topped with Sitka spruce, this guitar has depth and presence in spades. Its voice is powerful, immediate, and richly dimensional—ideal for players who want their instrument to respond with clarity and authority no matter how complex the music gets. Laskin’s signature bevels, as always, make the guitar feel like an extension of the body, every edge softened and considered.
The story begins at the headstock, where Grit has reproduced a striking 16th-century design by Giovan Capoferri titled Magnum Chaos. It’s a bold and fitting entry point for this piece: the moment before form takes shape.
From there, the neck becomes the pathway of a violent tornado spiraling down the fretboard, electricity crackling from a lightning bolt nearby. Within this maelstrom, Grit lets his imagination roam—objects caught in the swirl range from a twisted tree and a flying pickup truck to two beloved figures from The Wizard of Oz: Miss Gulch (on her bicycle, of course) and the Tin Man. The inlay is masterfully chaotic—elements seem suspended mid-motion, drawing the eye again and again to discover something new.
At the base of the fingerboard, a man and young girl are shown fleeing the twister as it rips through the edge of a house. It’s cinematic, charged, and even a little mischievous—but all handled with Laskin’s usual sense of balance and deep craftsmanship.

Dressed in stunning Pomelle Sapele — ‘pomelle’ referring to the unique, swirling, quilted, or ‘blistered’ grain pattern that resembles rippling water or a three-dimensional effect on the wood’s surface, also known as chatoyance. WE LOVE CHATOYANCE, and this guitar has it in droves.
It has a German spruce top with a unique bearclaw figuring — not a scratch, folks, but the natural beauty of the grain.
