2015 Tom Bills Cremona 16″, Curly Maple/Sitka Spruce
Tom Bills‘ status as a premier builder of archtop guitars is manifest in this gorgeous Cremona 16 inch from 2015. Not only is the fit and finish perfect, the setup glassy, and the neck-to-weight ratio dialed in–the voice, both acoustic and electric, is rich and warm and immediately envelops you. This instrument is an absolute treasure to play. Bigleaf Maple body with Sitka Spruce top, Tom’s custom French Polish shellac finish throughout, and on this Cremona Tom spec’d a rare short scale neck that makes left hand work effortless, and allows for easy bends. Falling across the fingerboard you’ll find several oak leaves rendered in MOP, and elsewhere this Bills Cremona is trimmed in flamed Maple and appointed with Ebony hardware. The humbucker is a custom Lollar with Ebony cover that ties into the pickguard.
If you’re looking for a 16 inch archtop that can keep up with you, that offers new avenues of play, is plain inspiration, this Tom Bills Cremona should fit the bill nicely.

Who needs a soundhole when you’ve got a soundport like this! Our 2009 G2 from Tom Bills packs quite a punch with his soundhole-less design that maximizes the efficiency of the SInker Redwood top (plus Indian Rosewood body) for a voice that’s equal parts power, warmth, and punch. Additionally, the soundport offers a great in-ear experience for the player, making it much easier (and richer) to hear yourself. Flame Koa bindings throughout set off the Rosewood & Redwood combo, and an L.R. Baggs Lyric pickup system has been installed to carry all of that faithfully onto stage with you.

Tom Bills offers a fresh take on the classic flattop with this 2004 Genesis model. Eschewing the conventional wisdom of a central soundhole, Tom has redesigned the top bracing system with an upper bout soundport as the exclusive soundhole, making for maximum real estate from the top plate to vibrate and create tone. The result is added richness and definition, plus a powerful bass response. Ziricote back and sides adds clarity and transparency, and German Spruce on top for a touch of sweetness. Tom dressed this one up with a series of oak leaf inlays floating down the fretboard and bridge; otherwise, Tom lets the quality of the woods speak for themselvse. With an asymetrical shoulder design in lieue of a traditional cutaway, you still have great fretboard access all the way to the 21st fret.

The Tom Bills Genesis model features a top with no soundhole. Instead there is a large side soundport. This design allows for an entirely different way of bracing and voicing the top. Without the soundhole to weaken the top, Bills can use a Kasha inspired Fan brace pattern. The back of the guitar is also uniquely braced in a radial pattern complete with a few arched braces that leap over others. The result is a big and responsive voice with a lot of bottom end fullness. This Indian Rosewood and German Spruce Tom Bill Genesis will surely inspire your playing. Comes with a Calton Flight Case!

For me success is not about the quantity of guitars or the big names that play them, It’s not about my own fame or recognition, it’s about the quality of my craft and more importantly to me, the story that it tells.
After all, my guitars will be here speaking into the hearts and lives of all those who come in contact with them long after I’m gone.
My hope is that seeing , hearing, and playing one of my guitars is not a one time event, but a journey that keeps getting richer and more interesting with each new discovery as you unravel its mystery and begin to share its voice through your music.
