***Moonspruce is fine European Spruce that is harvested in a very old tradition used by violin makers such as Stradivarius for more than a Century. The wood is harvested when the sap flow is at it’s lowest and it is left to start drying in the forrest. It is denser and more moisture resistant that modern harvested spruce. From Mike Greenfield: “This grand concert size guitar is extremely versatile and may be used for many different styles of music. This guitar is very quick to respond and sits comfortably in your lap. It has an incredibly focused sound. Evenly balanced with a tight responsive bass, transparent mids and clear, ringing highs. The G1 has the ability to reproduce complex chords with piano-like clarity, while articulating each individual note in fingerstyle patterns. While primarily a fingerstyle guitar, it is also superb for light strumming and acoustic jazz.” This particular G1 is sublime, crafted from old Brazilian Rosewood with a bit of dramatic sapwood on the back and sides. The Alpine top is master grade and adds to the definition and articulation within the rich voice. Michael Greenfield achieves wonderous trebles strings that are lyrical and weighty, an attribute that makes his guitars special.

This may well be the very last G-4 Michael Greenfield ever makes in Brazilian Rosewood. He’s having great difficulty finding high grade Brazilian wide enough for the 17″ bout of his G-4 design. So besides being an amazing Greenfield guitar this may also be a very rare one. The Brazilian here is outstanding, very even grain and color. The Lutz top is amazing, with abundant medullary silking that we’re sure is a big part of the sultry tone of this one. We added DUAL BEVELS, a ribrest bevel to match the armrest bevel, and fit it with a cutaway and a Calton Flight case. This is a guitar you’ll want to protect.

While playing music professionally in the 1970s, I began setting up and repairing electric guitars. By the 1990s, this evolved into a career repairing and restoring vintage and antique guitars. Having had the opportunity to examine so many of those iconic pre-war and early 20th century instruments was an invaluable education. I was able to examine, measure, play and HEAR those wonderful guitars!! It also pointed out the issues that typically need service down the road, which I attempt to engineer out of my own instruments. Maintaining the guitars of so many musicians nurtured my understanding of how to address the needs of players with varied repertoire, styles and musical needs. I bring all of this to my craft and my current work. My goal is that you are not just satisfied but THRILLED with your new guitar.
