2018 BC Kingston 17″ Archtop, European Curly Maple/Haida Gwaii Sitka Spruce
We’re excited for the chance to offer you a dynamite custom archtop from the venerable Brian Kingston of Prince Edward Island, Canada. AAA European Curly Maple back and sides paired with a hand carved Haida Gwaii Sitka Spruce top (bearing gorgeous and rare flamed figuring), bound F holes, and an exquisite sunburst in ambers, yellows, and browns across both neck and body. A generous 17 inches across the lower bout with a play weight of six pounds, this Kingston feels solid in hand, with a glossy neck profile and upper bout soundport to boot. A custom Seymour Duncan pickup with volume and tone knobs under the pickguard carries this beauty faithfully into amplified territory, but it’s equally at home as an acoustic archtop with a crisp treble definition and articulate midrange. Brian built this one in 2018 for the shows, and we’re proud to offer it now as a new instrument with a little age to liven up the voice.

We search long and hard here at Dream Guitars to find the best of every type of guitar for our customers. In BCKingston Guitars we have not only found you the best, but they come at a wonderful price point. This CR-E model is a worldclass 17″ Archtop from Brain Kingston crafted in the highest quality at his shop in beautiful Prince Edward Island. But what our pictures can’t show you is how alive and responsive this guitar is. It’s amazing and it rivals any Archtop at twice the price. This should not be a surprise as Brian has over 30 years of experience building his archtops. We are truly delighted to now represent BCKingston Guitars. From Brian Kingston “The CR-E was designed to have a homogenous look. The maple bindings, part of the 3 piece maple/ebony purfling/binding setup, are cut from the same piece of wood as the sides, matching up the curl where feasible.”

What player hasn’t longed for one of those great old Gibson 335s. Well once you play this Kingston Fusion you’ll never want a Gibson again. The craftsmenship and tone of this guitar are extraordinary. Much more responsive than a factory build semi-hollow guitar and the woods are top notch. We love the rich brown stain on this stunning solid Quilted Maple carved top. The Bigsby Tremolo and custom Fralin Pickups give it versatility and style. The playability and tone are superb, as you would expect from a luthier with over 30 years of experience. This is the real deal, a custom, handmade semi-hollow guitar perfect for blues, jazz and of course Fusion. From Brian Kingston “The Fusion is my take on this venerable guitar. To find more tone I’ve replaced the plywood top, back and sides of the “335” with solid select tone woods. The Fusions mahagony neck, sides, kerfing, centerblock and fully carved back form a homogenous unit that really warms the tone and feeds the sustain. When the bite of the fully carved premium quilted or European curly maple top is coupled with the clarity, articulation and punch of the custom order Lindy Fralin humbuckers and added to the equation; the result is that the Fusion is capable of almost pure acoustic sounds right up thru those big, fat, creamy Duane Allman sounds.”
2009 marks 31 years since Brian Kingston has been building guitars and the mission remains the same – to build guitars that are alive, effortless to play and inspirational to the player. His 120 year old farmhouse, in which he constructs his guitars, shares a property line with the world famous PEI Cavendish National Park, with its miles of sand dunes and beaches. Brain says “I share a special “sense of place†that people from all Islands know and as such am pleased to name my 17†archtop model “Cavendish Roadâ€â€¦after the road at the end of our lane”.
I first saw Brian Kinston's guitars at the Montreal Guitar Festival. I could immediately sense the quality and the first few notes told me he knows how to get tone from a carved instrument. Kingston guitars offer players a lively, responsive feel far superior to factory brand guitars. Only time, effort and experience can pull this much tone from simple wood.
