2008 Jason Romero, 12″ Winter LTD Openback Banjo
A rare treat—No. 5 of just 12 made—this is a 2008 Jason Romero Winter Limited 12″ banjo. It features a large neck profile with a frailing scoop, goatskin head, and elegant Art Nouveau inlay. The wide string spacing offers a spacious playing feel, and the ebonized Western birch rim pairs beautifully with the Honduran mahogany neck. A Romero AST tailpiece complements the Honduran rosewood inlaid tone ring, tying together the premium build with signature Romero artistry.

2015 Romero Wood-Bodied Resophonic, Figured Maple
Here’s a treat you don’t often see: one of Jason and Pharis Romero’s wood-bodied reso guitars. Figured Maple with a dark stain for the body and neck, a National brass coverplate and cone, custom brass tailpiece with “Romero” on the side, and a slotted headstock for vintage flair. The J. Romero Wood-Bodied Resonator spins function into fashion by leaving the screws of the brass fingerboard extension exposed, and gold Gotoh tuners matched with gold EVO frets.
The biscuit cone bridge and wood body lend a delicious darkness to the tone, which is contrasted to the cool, bell-like timbre of the treble strings. This is a resonator guitar that you can play softly and still get an enveloping, articulate tone. We found the setup teased into the sweet spot between fingerstyle and slide, adding to the dynamism this J. Romero reso is capable of.

Romero Blue Grass 5-String Banjo J. Romero’s Personal Banjo Santos Mahogany/Huber Ring
This is a one-of-a-kind Romero Bluegrass 5 String Banjo that was Jason Romero’s personal banjo. Jason is an amazing banjo picker as well as a prominent builder. From head to toe this one is completely custom. Santos Mahogany is the tonewood selected for it’s wonderful resonance. The rim is made of submerged Maple blocks and the tone ring is a Huber Flathead.
To that Jason Romero added premium Madagascar Rosewood for the Fingerboard, Headplate and Backplate. Each of those surfaces are lovingly inlaid with custom Abalone and M.O.P. designs. Ebony bindings add beautiful contrast and frame the true beauty of this wonderful banjo. The very best attribute however is the tone, strong and proud, but somehow more full and pleasing than most traditional banjos. That is the magic that has made Romero Banjos so highly sought after.

2008 Romero Banjo Cherry Rim/Honduran Tone Ring Goatskin Head
This Romero 11″ open back banjo truly has the Old Time sound. It’s mellow and round not at all harsh. It plays with ease and is absolutely gorgeous with it’s solid wood construction and lovely appointments. The fingerboard is adorned with a custom evening sky inlay of white mother-of-pearl and silver. and the L-shoes are Star shaped continuing the theme. The natural goatskin head adds to the vintage look and planetary gears make it easy to tune.

As a builder, long-time player, and enthusiast of all things banjo, Jason is always thinking of the banjo’s design and sound. After studying as a cabinetmaker and fine woodworker, he began working with the Wildwood Banjo Co. in Arcata, CA., as well as P.W. Crump Instruments and Clinesmith Guitars. Working in these shops and building a variety of instruments rounded out his experience as a luthier and developed a strong sense of instrument craftsmanship and skills.Established in 2002, we feel grateful every day to be creating playable works of art, drawing inspiration from places old, new and unknown.
