This 2021 Wingert Model F features a cutaway and a K&K Pure Mini pickup. The back and sides are crafted from African Blackwood, paired with a Swiss Spruce top. It has 12 frets to the body, a slotted headstock, and a clear pickguard.
An arm bevel and a beveled cutaway horn provide extra layers of comfort. The tonewoods are stunning, and the K&K pickup does an excellent job of translating the instrument’s natural tone.
With a nut width of 1 13/16″, this guitar is a fingerstylist’s dream.

Special, indeed. Here we’ve landed a gorgeous example of Kathy Wingert’s prowess at the bench that’s been dressed to the nines with gorgeous inlays along the fretboard, rosette, and headstock. Dramatic Black & White Ebony for the back and sides is the perfect contrast to German Spruce on top, giving the voice a smooth, smooth, smooth flavor with glassy definition throughout the registers. The top end has that sweet brand of sparkle that we see in so many of Kathy’s guitars. The lively string energy really draws in the player. On the visual side of things, Kathy has inlaid a series of flowers, vines, leaves, and a hummingbird, all rendered in vibrant Abalone and Pearl. Dark Ebony bindings contrast and set off the back and sides, and Kathy has also added a subtle arm bevel to the lower bout to make this 2017 Wingert EVC even easier to play.

This 2021 Model F is outfitted with premium Brazilian Rosewood back and sides plus Italian Spruce top, and features a lovely custom woods-to-metals, lines-to-curves rosette that grabs the eye but doesn’t overpower the overall look of the guitar. Additional upgrades include a venetian cutaway that transistions smoothly into the neck heel, and a subtle arm bevel on the lower bout that maximizes player ergonomics without sacrificing a lot of real estate on the top.

Kathy Wingert was the first builder we invited to make a limited edition Dream Series guitar for us. This series was inspired by ten sets of incredible Black Brazilian Rosewood that she acquired. To get the most from this special and rare Brazilian Rosewood, Kathy selected her favorite top wood, Italian Spruce, this one with some lovely bearclaw. Italian Spruce is known for it’s clarity, power and sustain. Exclusive to the Dream Series is a one-of-a-kind Geometric Rosette designed by Jimmi Wingert. This rosette, along with a full top and back border of premium Abalone, really makes the Wingert Dream Series shine. Kathy Wingert’s tone is one of our very favorites for fingerstyle players and this one, #4 of 10, is special indeed. Fat, juicy treble strings that give melodies heart and soul and big, warm bass that will make you wonder how she does it. Her passion that makes the difference.

The world needs more guitars like this Model E from Kathy Wingert. The 2003 “California Sun” is a heartthrob with just about anything you throw its way—fingerstyle, strumming, standard pitch or wacky tunings—and it looks great while it’s doing it. Cocobolo back and sides pair up with European Spruce on top with its amber sunburst, 14 fret neck, and Abalone appointments to round it out. The voice is very, very energetic and responsive. It has dynamic range, power, and a lot of gears, equally at home for both soft playing and aggressive pieces. Great balance across the registers, paired with crisp note definition, makes for a pianistic player that really soaks up the fingerstyle goodness. We wish this one wasn’t for sale, but could stay at the shop forever. So please, take it off our hands before we pull the trigger instead.

We adore this work of functional art. Kathy Wingert is one of our favorite builders and we’ve loved working with her for years now. Back in 2013 she executed an exclusive few Steampunk model EVC guitars, which we’ve been lucky enough to have visited with in the intervening years. Here’s one decked out with Cocobolo back and sides and German Spruce on top that’s a delight for both the eyes and the ears. The voice is balanced from bass to treble in the kind of way that gives chords consistent and even clarity and definition; it’s fantastic as a fingerstyle guitar. Visually, the soundhole is ringed in with a rosette of copper and cogs, which motif is continued across the headstock. There you’ll also find delicate pipework and a clear portal through the center so you can see the cogs from both the front and the back. For creature comforts we have a Ryan-style arm bevel and a venetian cutaway and a 25 1/4” scale that’s equal parts easy playability and power.

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen a brand new guitar from Kathy Wingert, but if this FVC is any indication, she hasn’t been idling away the time! This guitar is nothing short of incredible. Dark red Cocobolo back and sides, tight grained Sitka on top, and an expansive multiscale fretboard (27.2” at the bass to 25.5” at the treble) that dips this Model F into semi baritone territory. That makes this an obvious choice for the intrepid fingerstylist who prefers open and altered tunings (C9 was our favorite), and needs the bass string to still feel as crisp and responsive as though it were tuned up to Standard.
If we could only describe this Wingert in three words, they’d have to be: velvety, warm, and enveloping. The trebles have a smooth, liquid quality that gives the overtones an extra dose of sugar, and we love how well Kathy balanced that with the mids and bass response for a smooth, consistent response across all the registers. Adding a micro arm bevel and venetian cutaway only makes the deal that much sweeter. This one has been in Kathy’s possession since she finished it in 2015, and it’s ready to meet it’s first owner.

This guitar feels, more than most, like a finely-honed tool. If music-making were woodworking, this Wingert EVC Dream Series would fall somewhere between a Narex paring chisel for precision and a Lie-Nelson No. 164 plane for smoothness and ease of use. There’s just so much clarity between the strings and individual notes. A 12-fret neck and 25 inch scale keep string tension and top activation at a sweet spot that’s easy to play and boosts the bass and lower mid response. Excellent setup for fingerstyle, and lowered tunings are a delight.
Brazilian Rosewood back and sides (a striking set that’s straight-grained with sumptuous red-brick striping) and an Italian Spruce top make up the EVC’s body, and Kathy added an arm bevel and soundport for player comfort. The neck carve is somewhere between a C and a D; say it’s a flattened C and you’ll get the picture. Think of feathers: this neck carve is overall thin, baby-smooth to the touch, and lends a helping hand for fast fretwork by not slowing you down in the slightest. Kathy added a red band to the center of the rosette that offsets the green and blue shimmer from the Abalone, and ties in well with red trim around the top. Red is a tricky color to use here, but Kathy has assembled her color palette well; it’s striking rather than distracting. When every element comes together as organically, not to mention resonantly, as this 2007 Wingert EVC, you’ve found a rare bird indeed.

In the early 2000s, Kathy Wingert came into a handful of slate-dark sets of Brazilian Rosewood. It didn’t take long for her to reach out to Paul, and soon after Kathy built ten jaw-dropping Dream Series EVCs in collaboration with us. This, #6, is a marvel of playability and design. Picking up this guitar is like hopping on a bike for the first time in years: instantly familiar, and you’re cruising at top speed before you realize it! The neck profile as though shaking hands with your oldest friend.
The voice is clear and handsomely polished, with a string-to-string and fret-to-fret balance dialed in with the fingerstylist in mind. It doesn’t take much to get the Brazilian Rosewood and Italian Spruce singing; even light attack yields impressive projection and sustain. With locking Gotoh tuners, custom rosette by Jimmi Wingert, and a Calton case, this Dream Series EVC is dressed to the nines and looking like a tall drink of water. Get a taste!

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but we’re willing to bet that whosoever lays hands on this 2007 Wingert Concert Muse will agree: this is one beautiful creature. Malaysian Blackwood back and sides, with alternating bands of chocolate and mousse, an Italian Spruce top adorned with subtle medullary rays, a sparkling Abalone-and-Ebony rosette–these are the trappings of inspiration itself.
Playing this guitar is an exercise in timelessness; the trebles with their buttery smoothness and delicate overtones are enough to render you speechless. Fingerstyle arrangements never sounded so sweet, so lush with color, as when played across this Ebony fretboard with its silk-smooth setup and low action. Tuned down to DADGAD or lower, this Concert Muse becomes an orchestral force. Notes hang in the air for long seconds, and the basses roll with a profound clarity not often found in an instrument of this size. Wrapped up in a Calton flight case, this Wingert has many more miles to go, and it’ll be safe and secure for those rare moments when you aren’t playing it.

As of late, we’ve had a slew of magnificent instruments, and this 2005 Wingert 00 fits right in with the best of them. Finding a set of Brazilian Rosewood this gorgeous and responsive in today’s market? Difficult to say the least, but Kathy appears to have snagged some excellent sets for herself, and it’s a treat to see how well this particular set has been employed. The curving butterfly wings of the grain patterns exhibit chocolate-rich colorings, and are matched only by the medullary rays of the German Spruce top, itself matched by a sparkling winged sprite inlaid with Abalone and Mother-Of-Pearl across the headstock by Kathy’s own daughter, Jimmi Wingert.
Once we were able to tear our eyes away from these attractive features, the guitar became an entirely different beast at the first pluck of the strings. Celtic arrangements in DADGAD are rich and sustained; travis-style fingerpicking in Standard is crisp and projective; even wrong notes sounded great! Between these top-notch tonewoods and the 00 body, this Wingert is optimized for the fingerstylist who wants to squeeze every bit of nuance out of their music, and Kathy’s famously smooth fretwork and low action make playing effortless. Ready for a guitar which can do justice to your arrangements? This Wingert (wrapped up in a Calton case) is up to the challenge.
