Heavy relic in Coral Pink! Check out this gorgeous Fender Custom Shop ’62 Strat from Jason Smith if you’re looking for the real relic’d deal. Fender’s Smith built this beauty in 2009 with a custom heavy relic job in mind—and it sports the kind of play wear, exposed Alder, and glossy setup, that we’d expect from a dyed-in-the-wool road warrior. Coral Pink sets off the Maple neck and pickguard perfectly. The pickups are Custom Shop 60 Strat Relics with coffee white relic’d volume and tone knobs.

Here’s a note from Fender about custom shop builder Jason Smith: “Rock music and Fender are part of his DNA. Smith joined the Fender Custom Shop in 1995, and in 2006 completed a five-year apprenticeship under acclaimed Senior Master Builder John English. Among many diverse projects with English, Smith worked on a pair of double-neck Stratocaster guitars for Stone Temple Pilots guitarist Dean DeLeo. He has since crafted fine instruments for players and acts including John 5, Michael Landau, Flea, Josh Klinghoffer, Geddy Lee, Steve Harris, Reggie Hamilton, Linkin Park, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Neon Trees and many others.”

This is a special and rare treat for all you Flamencophiles out there. We’ve landed a 2004 F1 Flamenco Cutaway (!) from none other than Granada’s Pedro Maldonado. Maldonado’s guitars are highly sought after and treasured for their quickness, power, and precision, and this F1 Cutaway is a fine example. Spruce over Cypress with a cutaway for easy access, and a 650mm scale for added warmth that pairs sweetly with the Cypress dry attack. This beauty has been played in properly and is wide awake, carrying with it the typical play wear from the Flamenco repertoire and weighing in at a featherweight 3lbs 3oz.

Maldonodos have been the choice of professionals for years, including Pepe Romero, Manuel Cano, Vícente Amigo, Diego Vargas, Strunz and Farah, Sergio Lara.

Paris Banchetti of Florida had been on the Classical scene for a number of years until we sadly lost him in 2019. Here we’ve landed one of his Concert models from 1995 that’s got a clean bill of health, gorgeous tonewoods, and is ready for action. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides pair with Cedar on top, 650mm scale, and 50mm nut. Built in the Spanish style, this Classical weighs in at a slim 3lbs 10oz, and plays effortlessly.

This Grand Concert from Kent Hamblin is characterized by focus, balance, and a meaty midrange that really fills out the voice. It was built in 2005, and has over 15 years of opening up under its belt—and it shows in the ease with which it responds to both a light touch and more aggressive attack. Note definition is crisp and distinct, giving chords a technicolor aspect that we find particularly enveloping in altered tunings. A soft V neck in Mahogany with slick, fast setup makes for an effortless playing experience, and this Hamblin’s further outfitted with a comfy 1 13/16” nut for a spacious fretting feel. The tonewoods Kent pulled together here are astounding. Madagascar Rosewood back and sides feature dramatic black silk lines, and the European Spruce top has yellowed nicely with age (all the better to show off its tight grain patterns). The weight ratio between the neck and body is dialed in for a comfortable balance that keeps the GC square on your leg. Everything about this Hamblin just feels comfortable and sweetly familiar—and it’s got enough gears under the hood for years of good music yet.

Pull out all the stops, and then pull out some more, and you’ll get Taylor’s primo line of Builder’s Edition instruments. This 2018 K14ce is like new, but wide open under the hood. Koa back and sides pair up with Sitka Spruce on top in a satin finish that feels like velvet to the touch. At the lower bout they’ve added a Ryan-style arm bevel, and the Venetian Cutaway has been reengineered with a smooth contour to the neck heel and a beveled top edge for effortless upper fretboard work for the left hand. The Expression System 2 is plug-n-play perfection, warm and faithfully acoustic at a touch. The Grand Auditorium body boasts a generous 16 inch lower bout for added projection and power. We’re happy to report that this K14ce Builder’s Edition has a lot of gears, and responds beautifully to both a light attack and a more aggressive hand.

Smooth operator from tuner to tail. This 2017 Modified Dreadnought from Jason Kostal is truly a powerhouse guitar, with clarity, elegance, and precision to temper the raw strength of the voice. It’s worth it just to see the jaw-dropping Brazilian Rosewood back and sides Jason used, here paired with a creamy German Spruce top that absolutely sings. The bass register has a rich and rolling fundamental that fits in well with a warm midrange. The trebles are crisp and defined, and cut through the mix. A svelte florentine cutaway, combined with Jason’s trademark stained glass rosette, rounds out the picture of a perfect Kostal Mod D. Premium Hoffee flight case comes included to keep this beauty as clean and ready for action as day one.

Halland brings it home again with his latest DC-H. We commissioned this beauty with Wenge back and sides and a Sitka Spruce top, plus Gage’s lambs tongue-appointed arm and rib bevels immediately after the last one came to us (and promptly sold before we could hardly list the darned thing). Here we find exquisite note definition and sustain, letting the voice simultaneously fire right out of the soundhole and also linger around the player with mellifluous overtones. It’s got gears, essentially. We love putting this one through its paces in C tunings (even managed to pull a low B out for a bit!), right on up to Standard pitch.
Halland’s voice is representative of the modern guitar sound: clean, precise, powerful, and dynamic. We love Gage’s sense of line and curve with his builds; the aesthetics at play here are reminiscent of his apprenticeship with famed Michael Greenfield, but very much in his own style.

The Vintage Series embodies understated elegance. The traditional aesthetics of a spruce top fused with a robust unidirectional carbon soundboard is finished with an amber tint and supplemented with simple appointments.

The Dreadnought is the traditional workhorse of acoustic guitar music. With a large, deep body and wide waist, RainSong’s DR has the powerful bass and ringing treble of a great rhythmic guitar, but still maintains a wonderfully balanced sound, with clear distinction among individual notes. From rhythm to lead, the DR makes its presence known. Capable of cutting through admirably in any acoustic setting, the DR is loud enough to compete with banjoes, mandolins and other traditional volume hogs.

Don Musser was hard at work to bring us this custom 000 in The Tree Mahogany and Colorado Blue Spruce for one oof our clients. If you would like to commission a custom build of your own, please check our site for available build slots, or you can reach out to us through our contact page to discuss a build to your own specs here.

Kevin Ryan has been at it a long time, honing his craft and bringing us some of our favorite fingerstyle guitars this century. At the top of line we find his signature models, like this Signature Nightingale Grand Soloist from 2006. Premium plus Brazilian Rosewood back and sides with dramatic figure fanning out from the Abalone center strip, paired with an amber Engelmann Spruce top, Ebony bindings, and of course Ryan’s ubiquitous arm bevel. Fossil Mammoth Ivory saddle pairs with a Fossil Walrus Ivory nut and dark Select Blue Paua Abalone appointments.
Fifteen years of music have passed through this box, and left their mark on the incredibly precise and wide open voice of the Nightingale. Note to note clarity is superb, allowing for big chords to ring out clear and perfectly defined from bottom to top. And the color and dynamism with that perfect definition! This Ryan is enveloping at the first note.

Given a little time to open up, and this 2005 CX from Mike Baranik is singing like an orchestra. The voice is lively and energetic, and individual notes have a quality of weight and presence that really fills out the sound. It takes really well to both light and more aggressive attacks, too, maintaining that precision and definition throughout. The nut is a touch wider than average at 1 25/32”, which our long-fingered players found as a breath of fresh air. Additionally, the weight balance between body and neck favors the body slightly, which also makes for a very comfortable playing experience on both the right and left legs. The condition is excellent, par for the course for a well preserved instrument such as this Baranik CX, which lets the quality of the materials shine out: Bearclaw-figured German Spruce on top, dramatic Brazilian Rosewood back and sides; Ebony bindings and a tastefully curvy Venetian Cutaway.

The first multiscale Robbins R.1c to come through our shop—and we couldn’t be happier. This is a powerhouse with lots of gears, equally at home at concert pitch and C9. Honduran Rosewood back and sides pairs up with German Spruce on top, 26.25-25.5” multiscale fretboard, and Tyler’s latest interrupted, deconstructed rosette design to tie it all together. This is a medium-sized build at 15 7/8” across the lower bout, and we’re impressed by how much bass Tyler was able to inject into the voice; it sings out with the weight and presence of a bigger guitar. The trebles cut through the mix just as easily, and we were frankly hard pressed to find a note that didn’t sound good anywhere along the fretboard. To top it all off, Robbins includes a custom Calton case and Caseadillo case cover to keep this R.1c safe and sound on those rare moments when you aren’t playing it.

RainSong Graphite Guitars, the premier builder of Carbon/Graphite acoustic guitars, is excited to introduce Vintage and Nashville featuring the new Soundboard Fusion Technology (SFT).

To combine the stability and robustness of carbon fiber with the traditional aesthetics of wood, RainSong has developed SFT: Soundboard Fusion Technology. After careful experimentation, we are able to fuse a thin spruce soundboard and a unidirectional pre-impregnated carbon in a single molding step. The resulting SFT soundboard is a composite matrix that resonates as a single unit, like a solid wood soundboard. The physical properties of the carbon fiber far exceed those of the thin wood. Hence the SFT soundboard maintains the imperviousness to humidity and temperature of carbon fiber.

An SFT soundboard delivers rich carbon sound colored by wood. Perfect for those looking for a bulletproof guitar with tone that stays as close to their wood guitar as possible.

The RainSong V-WS3000X 12-String combines the large-sized sound chamber with lightweight carbon-fiber/spruce construction to deliver extra-loud and deep tone that superbly counterbalances the extra treble strings. This is a 12-string guitar that is great for strumming and finger style, full of power and delicacy, and ready to hit the road. The RainSong  N-WS3000X 12-string acoustic-electric guitar is able to stay in tune at concert pitch and to withstand temperature and humidity variations; qualities that every seasoned 12-string player has long pined for.

This is a sweet, smooth, and well-oiled machine. We’re in love. Marc Beneteau has been one of our favorite builders from our neighboring Canada for a number of years, and he is well loved in the modern fingerstyle world (if Don Ross is on board, you know he’s doing something right). Here we’ve landed a Concert Standard Cutaway from 2003 that’s opened up handsomely for a lively, expansive voice that balances lush overtones with a crisp and strong fundamental. Fingerstylists, take heed! Brazilian Rosewood back and sides pair up with German Spruce on top, and additionally Marc has added an arm bevel for creature comfort—plus a K&K Trinity pickup system. We just refretted this one so it’s ready for more action!

We’ve seen quite a number of Wayne’s guitars pass through our shop, but he still manages to pull out new stops with his latest builds, which number into the 800s. In fact, this Henderson OM-41 is the only OM Cutaway we’ve ever seen, and it’s basically right off the bench and here in our lap. #803 was finished in 2020 with gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Adirondack Spruce on top—primo tonewoods being Wayne’s bread and butter. The 41-style appointment package features dark Abalone around the top and soundhole, with Grained Ivoroid bindings and a multicolored zipper backstrip. At the headstock, carved in Wayne’s signature fiddle profile, we have gold Waverly tuners and bone saddle, and an Abalone thistle behind Wayne’s inlaid name.
The soft Venetian Cutaway sets this one apart, and is such a welcome treat for those uppermost frets to earn their keep. The voice is characterized by even, smooth response across the registers. Wayne’s OMs have a more lush and inviting sound than his Bluegrass Dreadnoughts, so usually better equipped for fingerstyle, but honestly we had a great time digging in a bit with a flatpick on this one; it holds up well under a stronger attack. The neck is comfortable and wide with a 1 13/16” nut and 2 3/8” string spacing at the saddle, and the setup is easy on the hands too. We’ve got this OM-41 wrapped up in a Calton flight case to keep it safe and sound.

This force of nature came in—and went right back out the door to its happy new home. We’re sad to see it go, but we know it’ll be cherished for years to come.
We love Michael Greenfield’s work, hands down. His stated goal in voicing a guitar is for “FAT tone,” and we’re here to tell you, he nails it every time. This is his biggest model (if you don’t count his Harp Guitar of course), the G4.2, with his DADGAD fan fret spread at 26.25-25.5”, Laskin-style rib and arm bevels, and Michael’s Palm-A-Way cutaway alternative at the upper bout. An Adirondack Spruce top pairs with African Blackwood (both from Michael’s reserve stash) for a balance of thunderclaps and precision. This guitar has gears, as Paul would say. The multiscale setup lends itself handsomely to DADGAD, of course, but we were simply in awe of the responsiveness and projection when playing down in C9 territory. It’s really a work of functional art that fills the room and gives meaning to the phrase “lost track of time.”

Del Langejans is known for having built so many guitars, and so many kinds of guitars, so we’re always interested to see what the next one’s going to be! Here’s a powerhouse Grand Concert Cutaway from 1998 that’s open—wide open—and decked out with gorgeous woods and a distinctive orange finish on top. Dramatic Brazilian Rosewood back and sides pair up with Engelmann Spruce and Maple bindings, and Del further decked this one out with a Brazilian Rosewood neck and bridge. The voice is crisp and potent and holds up well under a flatpick. Deep-cut Florentine Cutaway for maximum fretboard access.
The neck has a wide string spacing (1 7/8” nut) that feels oh. so. comfortable for those cramped chord shapes. The body is almost five inches deep at the tail, but the lower bout is only 15 1/2” across, giving this Grand Concert an added bass push that doesn’t come at the cost of the other registers. Lastly, this beauty comes with an L.R. Baggs Ribbon Transducer pickup system.

The Black Ice Series embodies Artistry. Each instrument is unique. The soundboard on each guitar is meticulously crafted to achieve an aesthetically pleasing appearance without overbuilding it. Each soundboard is individually conceived so every guitar is unique. Unique in design and unique in tone.

The RainSong BI-WS3000 12-String combines the large-sized sound chamber with lightweight carbon-fiber/spruce construction to deliver extra-loud and deep tone that superbly counterbalances the extra treble strings. This is a 12-string guitar that is great for strumming and finger style, full of power and delicacy, and ready to hit the road. The RainSong BI-WS3000 12-string is able to stay in tune at concert pitch and to withstand temperature and humidity variations; qualities that every seasoned 12-string player has long pined for.

Please note, each Black Ice Series guitar has variations in appearance. This listing represents examples of Black Ice, but not the actual instrument in stock.

We feel pretty confident saying that Ron Phillips has mastered his craft. These boutique-built resonators are well polished diamonds, every one, and this 2006 Tricone with a cutaway shines so bright. German Silver construction throughout with Flame Koa bindings over a Flame Maple neck; Waverly tuners; art deco-inspired aesthetics throughout the build. 12 frets to the body with a tricone resonator setup makes for a sweet, warm, intimate voice that’s a far cry from the shrill, smack-in-the-face tone of other metalbody resos. This beauty has gears. This is the first R.E. Phillips we’ve had in the shop featuring a cutaway—and we’re glad to have it! Not only does the Florentine point look great, it really affords the player uncompromised access for work at the top of the fretboard. This one is currently set up for slide work.

We’ve been waiting with bated breath for this one to arrive! Here’s the latest and greatest from our newest Canadian builder, GR Bear of Vancouver, British Columbia. Bear’s larger SJ-C body conveys power and growl, and the unique Gidgee back and sides bring out a distinct woody timbre to the bass register; Lutz Spruce on top gives the trebles a bright, chimey flavor that really cuts through the mix. The fit and finish is flawless from tuner to tail, with a UV-cured Polyester finish for the body and neck, and Royal-Lac shellac top for maximum resonance.
The neck is satin to the touch, and a delight in hand. This one takes to both flatpicks and fingerstyle equally well, and we can’t wait to hear what it sounds like after it’s got some hours under its belt! Considering how much tone we’re getting right out of the gate today. Comes wrapped in a Calton flight case for safe keeping on those rare moments you aren’t playing it.

If there’s one thing that binds together all of The Tree guitars we’ve seen, it’s clarity and power. This 2019 OM from Richard Hoover and co at Santa Cruz is no exception—more so since the entire body is built with heavily quilted The Tree Mahogany! The top is braced with Adirondack Spruce, hide glue construction throughout, and Brazilian Rosewood bindings and rosette for added class. Such a beauty; you’ll want to handle this OM in raking light so you can best see the chatoyance of the woodgrain—its three dimensionality is mesmerizing.
Ready to have an heirloom instrument with some of the most distinct tonewoods known to humankind? Look no further!

Our latest client commission from Leo Buendia is an instrument of inspiration. Leo’s fit and finish are flawless, as is the voice of this OM: exquisitely precise from bass to treble. Gorgeous, gorgeous old-growth Brazilian Rosewood back and sides were paired with a pale Swiss Alpine Moonspruce top and Curly Koa bindings. Honduran Mahogany one-piece neck with a glass-smooth C profile; BRW bridge and headplate; EVO frets for longevity; custom white Hoffee case for safety. This OM Cutaway comes in under five pounds to boot.
We love collaborating with both you and our builders to bring about a bespoke work of functional art—give us a shout when you’re ready for yours.

So good, and so gone. We couldn’t manage to hold onto this brand new Keystone SJ for a second before a lucky client snatched it up! This is our latest spec build from Keisuke Nishi, which Paul based off his personal specs. Thus, premium Brazilian Rosewood back and sides (as well as bindings, bridge, fretboard, headpalate—and neck!) with German Spruce on top, multiscale setup at 26.25-25.5”, and an exquisitely executed inlay sprawling along frets 4-10.
This one-piece BRW neck is a real gem, and part of what gives this Keystone its very clean, very dynamic sustain and projection. What a voice, this one has. The bass response is thunderous, yet paired perfectly with a present midrange and smooth trebles. It’s practically perfect.

This beauty from 2016 is an every-note-counts kind of guitar. Tom Doerr’s such an accomplished builder, we love to spend time with any of his builds. Here’s a beautiful example of his upgraded Signature Series in the Legacy Select body (small jumbo for power, drive, and responsiveness in equal measure)—decked out with a striking set of Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides and Adirondack Spruce on top. Ebony bindings tie them together, plus a svelte Ryan-style arm bevel for creature comforts.
And then there’s the multiscale setup. 26 inches at the bass to 25 at the trebles makes a great player for C tunings and right on up to Standard—it’s a fingerstyle masterpiece.
