This Thinline from Tom Ribbecke hails from 2003, features a semi-hollow Mahogany body and Figured Maple top, Mahogany neck plus wide nut, and a Humbucker-Single-Coil-Humbucker pickup arrangement. Weighing in about eight pounds, this Ribbecke has some heft to it, and some sweet sustain as a result. If you’re looking for a wider-spec’d fingerboard, look no further! Tom Ribbecke’s thinline Testadura model is designed with variety and dynamism in mind, and is equally at home with both Jazz and Rock. This beauty from 2003 boasts Indian Rosewood sides paired with a Bigleaf Maple back and carved Sitka Spruce top, and Tom Holmes PAF humbuckers. In both the body and neck Tom installed carbon graphite for stability and improved stiffness-to-weight ratio. The setup is butter smooth on this one, it really plays itself.

A first for us here at Dream Guitars: a 2006 Ruokangas Mojo Grande. All the way from Finland, this Thinline Tele-style guitar is crafted from some rather unique tonewoods. The body is made of Spanish cedar, with a figured Arctic birch top. It features a maple neck and birch fingerboard, both of which, along with the top, have been thermally treated—literally baking in that vintage tone.

A first for us here at the shop from Zach Lefebvre, a brand new TreeHouse Blue Ember. It’s rare to find such unique instruments, where form certainly follows function so well. A whole lot of tone, and even more character. The back and sides’ hue harkens back to custom Stratocasters of the late 50s and early 60s, with an incredibly visually pleasing stain on top. The single coil tone combined with its acoustic resonance makes for an intriguing and fantastic musical experience. Maple for the back and sides, Adirondack Spruce on top.

2018 Maegan Wells 16″ Archtop, Maple/Sitka Spruce
An absolute delight we have here in this 2018 Maegen Wells 16″ archtop. Maple for the back and sides, with Sitka Spruce on top. Koa bindings, and ebony for the pickguard, bridge, and tailpiece.
This is an excellent example of a modern archtop. While it contains all the makings and components of a traditional archtop, the details and aesthetics are incredibly contemporary. With Maegen’s understated and minimalistic approach, one glance is all it takes to know it’s one of her creations.
Outfitted with a Bartolini pickup system, wherever this instrument finds its new home, it will certainly be a happy one!

2015 15″ Archtop from Maegen Wells, sporting a Bartolini Johnny Smith humbucker, Ebony and Koa appointments throughout, and a custom bone inlay on the headstock by Will Hylton. Finished in Nitrocellulose Lacquer with a Dark Orange Cherry Burst stain. Aluminum Tubing side dots—this guitar is as much fun to look upon as it is to play, and it certainly is fun to play. The top is Sitka Spruce, the back is Big Leaf Maple, and the sides are Figured Koa. A very uncommon yet radically cool feature set on this instrument. The voice is complex, yet surprisingly applicable to just about any musical situation. Get this while you can—it surely won’t hang around for long.

Gold EVO frets ensure the setup will be smooth and clear for a long time to come; weighing under six pounds, you hardly tell it’s there. Further, indeed. The team at Alembic has been pushing the envelope for years, and that sterling reputation for innovation has led to a community of ardent fans of both basses and electrics. We recently landed one of their Further models from 2015, and we get what all the fuss is about: this is a well-oiled machine capable of handling, well, anything. Purpleheart body with Buckeye top and back laminates; through neck; chrome hardware; and heaps of electronics. The team outfitted this one with volume, three pickup selectors, three filters, effects loop, effects loop bypass, LED position markers—the works. Whew! The through neck is a laminate of Flame Maple, Purpleheart, and Cherry, and is such a strikingly gorgeous number with silky play feel to boot. The fit and finish is flawless from tuners to tail, and we find ourselves struggling to put it down for any real length of time. Weighs in at eight pounds for a solid heft that won’t bow your shoulders: the Alembic Further is the complete package.
