1995 Blanchard Classical, Indian Rosewood/Cedar

1999 Blanchard Classical, Indian Rosewood/Engelmann Spruce
Here we have another example of Mark Blanchard’s work from the ’90s — this time, a 1999 classical in Indian Rosewood and Engelmann Spruce. A slimmer neck profile makes this a great “crossover-ish” instrument for steel-string players.
1999 was still fairly early in Mark’s career, but we’re already seeing the beginnings of design elements that remain present in his builds to this day. For instance, the rosette: it features Honduran Rosewood surrounding a band of abalone. Honduran Rosewood appointments appear throughout this piece.

2008 Goodall Crossover, Bubinga/Port Orford Cedar
2008 Goodall Crossover, built with Bubinga back and sides and a Port Orford Cedar top. The Bubinga is visually arresting, with rich figure and depth, while the Port Orford Cedar provides a clear, clean timbre that’s articulate and responsive. This is an excellent guitar for anyone looking to dip their toes into the nylon-string world—comfortable, versatile, and beautifully voiced.
For steel-string players, the nut width offers a familiar feel while still giving the wider spacing needed for nylon work. For classical players, it’s a touch more narrow, making it fast and accessible. The radiused fingerboard adds extra comfort, making this a true crossover in every sense.

2002 Jeremy Locke Arched Back Classical Guitar, Tasmanian Blackwood/Spruce
From 2002, the “Arched Back Classical” from Jeremy Locke has Tasmanian Blackwood—which isn’t a common tonewood for the back and sides of a classical guitar, but based on what we have here, it probably should be more common. It comes with Gilbert tuners and a Gilbert-styled bridge. As the name suggests, this guitar has a carved “arched” back, giving it the classic Australian guitar tone. With Spanish Cedar for the neck, this is a whole lot of guitar for your money.
