New Traphagen MP-S D’Aquisto Style Crossover Maple/Spruce
In 1982, world-renowned luthier Jimmy D’Aquisto built a rare and exceptional nylon string guitar. Thought to be only 1 of 3 in existence, and the only fully functional example, this extraordinary instrument was exquisite in tone, playability, and design. All who played it at Dream Guitars were in agreement that it was one of the finest crossover guitars in existence. Sadly, as with most treasures, the D’Aquisto nylon string was well beyond the means of the average player. So when our friend and luthier James Condino blueprinted the D’Aquisto nylon for the Guild of American Luthiershttp://www.luth.org/plans/pl65.jpg, we struck upon the idea of commissioning a guitar built on the plans by another celebrated luthier Dake Traphagen. The idea was to build a no-compromise representation of the D’Aquisto original, but at an affordable price. What resulted is even beyond our highest expectations! With Maple back and sides, and a superb Spruce top, the MP-s D’Aquisto 101 has a strong, lively tone sure to cut through the mix. It also offers superb clarity, and excellent note separation when playing complex chord voicings. This fine guitar is a superb choice for jazz, pop and other contemporary music and for steel string players seeking a comfortable easy to play neck. A winner!

2007-2008 Wechter Florentine Nylon Elite, Quilted Maple/Cedar
Dynamic is the name of the game when it comes to our Wechter Florentine crossover. Among Abraham Wechter’s myriad designs over the years, his Florentine is one of the most well-known, in particular for the ease with which these guitars can be played in a wide range of settings. The spacious body cavity lends extra projection and clarity, while the shallow C profile neck feels much more like your favorite steel string than a classical. The 25.5 inch scale shines for fingerstyle compositions, but has enough tension for use with a pick; the Barbera Soloist pickup amplified both modes handsomely.
Quilted Maple make up the back and sides, Red Cedar the top, and the rosette partitions up the natural Cedar grain with sparkling Abalone that has an extra three-dimenionsionality that quickly catches the eye. Of course this model comes with a Florentine Cutaway, and this crossover guitar also features a strap button so you can easily play while standing—no more relegated to squeaky chairs on stage! In incredible condition, this Wechter Florentine was built between 2005 and 2008 and has opened up sweetly, and combines the punchy drive of its Maple with Cedar warmth and overtones for a well-balanced voice, both acoustic and amplified.

2008 Andrew White Classical, Brazilian Rosewood/Spruce
A Classical guitar for the modern-minded player: our 2008 Andrew White Classical. Spruce over Brazilian Rosewood, with a slim nut (1 7/8”) and radiused fretboard, this Andrew White plays handsomely and effortlessly, and the previous owner installed an L.R. Baggs pickup with volume and tone control knobs recessed beneath the lip of the soundhole. An oval soundport in the upper bout keeps you in touch with your tone, and the weight comes in at a trim four pounds, four ounces. This Classical comes to us from 2008, and is one of Andrew’s handbuilt guitars, not production line Andrew White Guitars. Andrew keeps quality, fit and finish, and tone at the forefront with his personal builds, and this Classical is no exception.

2011 Laurie Williams Classical, Ancient Kauri/Paraoanui
New Zealand’s Laurie Williams utilizes gorgeous and unique tonewoods from his native land to build exquisite modern instruments like this Classical from 2011. The top is Sinker Paraoanui, specifically from a log uncovered by a flood near Laurie’s shop which he believes is nearly 100 years old; the body is a set of Ancient Kauri harvested from peat swamps in New Zealand’s North Island estimated to be between 3,000 and 45,000 years old! The neck is salvaged Totara, another NZ domestic.
