New How Grand Concert Ladder Braced Honduran Mahogany/Sitka
We saw this guitar at the Healdsburg Guitar Festival and were drawn to it’s beautiful vintage appearance and 1800s styling. Owner Paul Heumiller played this ladder braced beauty and was immediately impressed with the throaty growl that this guitar puts forth from it’s Mahogany and Adirondack body. John’s mustache style bridge, slotted headstock, complete ivoroid bindings including the soundhole, sunburst and intricate rope style purflings on the top and back make this one striking guitar. We are proud to have this new relationship with John How Guitars.

Huber electric guitars bring us this absolute beast of an electric. It’s rare to find an electric guitar with a sound that isn’t easily categorized in the Gibson or Fender camp, yet this guitar seems to break that mold. With a mahogany flat top body and a Black Onyx Matte finish, it also features a wraparound bridge—if you’re a Les Paul enthusiast, you know that means even more sustain than you can imagine.
A custom Huber-made P-90 in the neck offers a smooth and buttery clean tone that becomes ferocious when overdriven, while the Huber custom humbucker in the bridge delivers the classic PAF-style sound. This 2014 Krautster II truly has an individual quality that you don’t see in many instruments at this price point. The flamed maple neck, with its lovely chunky profile, feels as good as it sounds.
Sleek, understated aesthetics and vibe. This guitar is just plain cool—everyone here at the shop wants to take it home.

Here we’ve landed a great example of Thomas Humphrey’s Millenium design from 1995, rigged up with Brazilian Rosewood under Spruce, a 650mm scale, and 51mm nut. At the soundhole we have a flower mosaic rosette which offers some color, pairing nicely with the warmly aged surrounding Spruce. A full neck profile with a slight C shape, terminating at the body with the elevated fingerboard extension design ubiquitous to the Millenium. This beauty has been lovingly played in since 1995 and has the marks to prove it, and for us this helps explain the wide open, powerful voice—you only sound this good when you’ve had a lot of music pass through your strings.

The Classical guitar community lost the great Thomas Humphrey too soon in 2008, and that loss has been felt ever since. We’re grateful and honored to have one of his last Millenium models, built in 2007, here to offer. The Millennium design, now ubiquitous in contemporary Classical construction, features Humphrey’s elevated fingerboard, dramatic body taper, and hybrid X bracing. The results are felt in both playability and tone: this Humphrey Millennium is easy on the hands and has an incredibly distinct voice. The treble register pushes out and away from the soundhole with great clarity and weight; the voice has a visceral quality that is mesmerizing. The body boasts chocolate-dark Brazilian Rosewood back and sides with Cedar on top and a floral mosaic rosette.

This is a true legend of a guitar built by a legend of a man. The late Thomas Humphrey was one of the forerunners of modern classical guitar design, inspiring many after him. Thomas was well known for innovations like the elevated fingerboard and constantly evolving soundboard bracing designs; Without question Thomas built some of the most articulate and responsive guitars ever to be made. This particular Millenium is incredibly special, it is the last guitar that Thomas built before his untimely passing. Built from Quilted Maple and Cedar, this classical has warmth and clarity that is truly breathtaking. One of the innovations Thomas employed here is the carved maple back, which lends ample projection and crisp trebles that are rarely achieved in the classical guitar world. This is a historic guitar from a maker who changed the world of classical guitar building.

This wonderful 1990 Humphrey Millenium comes to us from National Fingerpicking Champ Todd Hallawell. He had Master Luthier Ervin Somogyi go over the guitar recently so it’s in perfect order. The french polish has been freshened so the guitar looks young again, but the voice clearly is matured to perfection under the hands of a master player. Every note leaps out of this Humphrey Millenium with clarity and power. The magic of Humphrey’s Millenium design is that the sloped soundboard and elevated fingerboard cause the strings to pull at a steeper angle. This one features his Radial Bracing. The result is greater volume and easy access to the highest frets. Even with Tom Humphrey’s passing his Millenium will forever live as one of the greatest guitar designs and this is a supreme example.
