Sugar sweet with power to match. Now this is the one for you, if you’re looking for one flattop that’ll handle everything. Our 2017 Jang OM is just that good. Chocolate-dark Cocobolo back and sides paired up with Swiss Spruce on top, a glassy setup that’s effortless under the fingers, and a gorgeous blue purfling package to set off these lovely tonewoods. Moreover, Isaac built on a beveled cutaway, along with his Subtle Manzer Wedge design, for added ergonomic ease. And this guitar does play easily—it’s as easy as breathing. The voice is crisply balanced across the registers, with just enough fire in the bottom end to warm it all up, and articulate trebles for added definition. Grab this one while you can! Los Angeles-based luthier Isaac Jang is one of the up-and-coming builders we’ve been following with keen interest. He has the ability to take choice materials like Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce, Ebony, Honduran Mahogany, and weave them together into a harmonious design that strikes the eye and sets the ears ringing. We’ve been fortunate to have commissioned several custom builds from Isaac, and our latest adds his Uchida-style Bendaway to the upper bout with an added bevel for further comfort and a slim Manzer Wedge body for smooth sailing.
Set up with a 16 to 20 inch compound radius fingerboard, this Jang OM feels intimate and cozy. But this beau is brand new! The voice has a lively quality that really plays out in the sonority of the bass and the liquid trebles. Excellent note separation for fingerstyle, dropped tunings most welcome. This is as close as you might get to the perfect guitar without the obligatory crossroads contract for your soul.

Our first Isaac Jang guitar–and it’s already sold! We barely had time to change the strings, snap some photos, and record Al before sending it along to its happy new owner. Exciting times, indeed, to have such a fine instrument of Brazilian Rosewood and Italian Spruce come through our doors, with another one right behind it. This 2016 OM is both novel and traditional in its features: for all that the body is a standard OM shape and Jang employs a dovetail neck joint, this Jang also has a subtle Manzer wedge built into the body curves and a dropped shoulder cutaway with Ebony bevel in a gorgeous display of playability.
The voice is equal parts thunder storm and gentle rain patter on the window, capable of rich and enveloping bass notes and sweet trebles with fearsome sustain. We can’t wait to get another one in!

If you like the Jeronimo Pena Fernandez Classical we just got in the shop, we’re here to give you another chance to own a certifiable knockout of the Classical guitar world. This one is decked out in a striking set of Brazilian Rosewood and Cedar, which combine to give the guitar a rich, aggressive voice, the perfect combination of depth, warmth, and projection. After only a few minutes, you can tell that this guitar has been lovingly played for hundreds of hours since its birth in 1976–the Cedar has fully opened up, and the entire body feels electrically charged, crescendos leaping off the fretboard.
Capable of bringing new light to dark, brooding passages, this Classical also performs beautifully for a minuet or lament, with trebles that are crisp and hang in the air for long seconds. This Brazilian Rosewood is well-figured and richly resonant, and when coupled with Fernandez’s trademark ornate carving at the Brazilian Rosewood headstock and bridge, gives the guitar a striking beauty, one to play for decades and decades yet.

Powerful, but controlled–this 1971 Concert Classical from Jeronimo Pena Fernandez is one of the finest Classicals we’ve seen from the 1970s in quite some time. Decked out in Palosanto holy wood back and sides with a Spanish Pine top, this Fernandez exhudes the kind of richness of voice and tonal sonority found in guitars twice, thrice, its age. Set your fingertips to the trebles, and prepare yourself for an upper register which is shockingly clear, with immense headroom and expressive shimmer. To complement the agile trebles, the basses are sweet and responsive, but focused, with excellent sustain.Of course, Fernandez is known for more than just the richness of his guitars’ voices–the skill with which he has carved this headstock and bridge is astounding! With shapes and designs which are as extensive as they are delicate, Fernandez has rendered this instrument as much an objet d’art as a powerful tool for the concert Classical guitarist. Perhaps it’s the slow confidence with which Fernandez has rendered these carvings that informs the strength of the instrument’s voice; surely, the expressive, vigorous tonality this Concert Classical exhibits is a mark of his excellent voicing skills as well.Stained umber, but with a voice that spans the dark and mournful to the bright and exhuberant, this guitar is completely opened up and ready for many more years of beautiful music.

Here we have an exceptional 2007 Flamenco guitar by Luthier Juan Miguel Gonzalez. Built from Brazilian Rosewood and Spruce this Flamenco has a little more complexity of tone than its cypress-bodied brethren. the bass strings are stout and full while the mids through trebles are punchy, but still maintain a sweet tone. This is a fantastic Gerundino Flamenca Blanca built and co-labeled by Juan Miguel Gonzalez, one of the elite contemporary makers of Flamenco guitars in Spain–and we believe the very last Gerundino guitar ever built! Juan Miguel Gonzalez‘ father was a well known Flamenco guitar maker in Almeria and was responsible for teaching both the late Gerundino and Gonzalez the art of Flamenco guitar luthiership.
Gonzalez had secretly been making a few guitars for Gerundino under his label, but when his own guitars became highly acclaimed, he focused on his own line. Paco Pena requested a set of two guitars from Gerundino (a Spruce and Cedar top) around 2005, knowing that Gerundino’s health was failing and it might be his last chance. Gonzalez was commissioned to make them. A dealer from Los Angeles was visiting at the time, and asked Gonzalez if he would make a duplicate set. For those two guitars–a Spruce top No.1 and a Cedar top No.2–Gonzalez added his label to Gerundino’s. To build them, Gonzalez used an amazing set of “Violeta” Spanish Cypress from his father’s original collection. The harmonics of this Flamenco Blanca are unbelievable–muy flamenco.

Now here’s a sweet piece of lutherie from 2001—Steve Kauffman’s (of Klein Guitars fame) Parlor model in Brazilian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce. What a gem, a beautiful small-bodied guitar, we’re conflicted about even offering it for sale. Steve’s fit and finish its flawless, and while this guitar has definite nods to Klein acoustics, he’s got his own style on showcase here. Slotted headstock with 12-fret neck (a Brazilian Rosewood neck, no less!) and long scale setup makes for the perfect combination of sweetness and power. We’re particularly impressed by the clarity and definition of the bass register, given the slim Parlor dimensions. This beauty has been well cared for and is in peak playing condition today, two decades later.
