Brand New Simon Fay Model One, Cuban Mahogany/Engelmann
It’s been several years since we’ve seen a Simon Fay guitar in the shop—and we’re tickled pink by this brand new Model One from Simon himself. This guitar exudes professionalism: the fit and finish are flawless, the aesthetic streamlined and quietly modern, and the voice is engineered with excellent note separation and sustain. With a short multiscale spread of half an inch (25.5” bass to 25” treble) and EVO frets, this Fay plays easily, and remains crisp and responsive when taken into altered and open tuning territory. We found DADF#AD to be a particular favorite.
Cuban Mahogany back and sides, Engelmann Spruce top, and a Redwood rosette to tie it together. Bois de Rose bridge, fossilized nut and saddle, Alessi tuners—Simon’s Model One is the complete package, and one we recommend heartily if you’re looking for a gorgeous instrument with clarity at the heart of its sound, and a trim punching weight of 4lbs 3oz to keep you playing more easily and for longer.

Brand new from the workshop of Bryan Galloup, we have a G6.CAM made of Brazilian Rosewood and Italian Spruce. This instrument features a 26/25″ multiscale, making it perfect for alternate tunings. Brazilian Rosewood is used not only for the back and sides but also for the fingerboard. With a very modern and understated aesthetic, this guitar lets the tonewoods do all the talking, both in presentation and in sound.

In typical fashion, this G.6CAM has a huge voice but remains clean and balanced across the registers, is upgraded with highly figured Brazilian Rosewood and Italian Spruce on top, plus the added benefits of an arm bevel and a multiscale fingerboard setup for added power on the bottom end. Take this Galloup to C tuning territory, and it retains every ounce of fluency.

New German Belladonna Bolivian Rswd/Sitka
Greg German has a background as a highly skilled Illustrator, Animator and luthier with Edward Victor Dick. This experience allows him to create and execute details that most Luthiers wouldn’t dare to attempt. This Belladonna, multiscale, steel string is breathtaking in subtle ways. There are extensive inlays on the headstock, fingerboard, soundport and rosette, but all are fine and wooden for an elegant effect. The wild Bolivian Rosewood back and Silky Sitka top give this asymmetrical multiscale a bright, clear tone with just a hint of dark under current. The combination of 25.4 scale on the bass string and the short 24.75 top string offer great intonation, easy and even tension and enhance this guitars ability to handle any tuning you want to use from Standard to low C. What a treat to have this guitar to begin our relationship with Greg German.

2022 Greenfield G.1, Koa/Moonspruce
From 2022, we have a real showstopper: a G1 with DADGAD multiscale, arm bevel, and cutaway. The back and sides are crafted from shimmery Koa, paired with a top of Swiss Moonspruce. Outfitted with EVO frets and all the meticulous appointments you’d expect from Michael Greenfield, this guitar is nothing short of spectacular.
This is one of those instruments that truly speaks for itself. It’s so captivating that it’s hard to get any work done with it around! Housed in a Mainstage case for top-tier protection—someone, please, come take this away from me.

We adore every Greenfield guitar we’ve had the honor of playing; Michael’s signature is flawless construction methods and a vigorous, comprehensive, enveloping tone. This small body G3.2.2 model from 2019 brings all of that in a petite package, and here further outfitted with a 26-25” multiscale setup, African Blackwood body, and Alpine Moonspruce top. Rodgers tuners, arm bevel and Michael’s “Palm-A-Way” bevel to boot. Elevated fingerboard, trademark pinless bridge, and all wrapped up in a bombproof MainStage flight case.

Mike finished this one in 2019, so it’s close to new and still looking the part. 80-year-old Cocobolo Rosewood back and sides are paired with an Alpine Moonspruce top, plus Greenfield’s DADGAD multiscale setup (26.25-25.5”); upgraded silver Rodgers tuners; combo arm bevel and palm away bevel. Gold EVO frets ensure many more moons of music before you’ll need to worry about a fret dress, and with Mike’s surgically precise fit/finish and design this G2 performs like a well-oiled machine. Wrap this beauty up in a custom splatter paint jobbed Main Stage flight case, and you’ve got an heirloom creation for a lifetime’s inspiration.

2017 Greenfield G1 7 String, Ziricote/Adirondack Spruce
Why limit yourself to a measly six strings? When a 7-string Greenfield G1 sounds oh so good. a multiscale setup of 27 inches to 25 gives you an immense range to cook up new musical ideas, and Mike’s effortless playability makes this ‘hoss oh so easy to navigate. Florentine cutaway for upper fret access, a subtle heel swoosh carve to make those top frets even easier to reach, and an arm bevel for creature comfort. Reserve Grade Figured Ziricote back and sides offer a smooth, balanced flavor to the extended range of this 2017 G1, while stiff Adirondack Spruce on top keeps projection crisp and articulate, all the way from the high e to that fierce low B.

2012 Greenfield G4.2, African Blackwood/Adirondack Spruce
This force of nature came in—and went right back out the door to its happy new home. We’re sad to see it go, but we know it’ll be cherished for years to come.
We love Michael Greenfield’s work, hands down. His stated goal in voicing a guitar is for “FAT tone,” and we’re here to tell you, he nails it every time. This is his biggest model (if you don’t count his Harp Guitar of course), the G4.2, with his DADGAD fan fret spread at 26.25-25.5”, Laskin-style rib and arm bevels, and Michael’s Palm-A-Way cutaway alternative at the upper bout. An Adirondack Spruce top pairs with African Blackwood (both from Michael’s reserve stash) for a balance of thunderclaps and precision. This guitar has gears, as Paul would say. The multiscale setup lends itself handsomely to DADGAD, of course, but we were simply in awe of the responsiveness and projection when playing down in C9 territory. 2016 Greenfield G4.2, Figured Mahogany/Adirondack Spruce
Contemporary fingerstyle meets its perfect companion: our 2016 Greenfield G4.2. Michael Greenfield’s guitars are in the hands of some of our favorite bleeding edge fingerstylists, like Pipo Romero and Andy McKee, and here’s why. Michael’s guitars are exquisitely responsive to a wide range of attacks, they have a cleanness and clarity that allows complex voicings to ring out with the right amount of definition, and they play effortlessly. Figured Mahogany back and sides here paired with Adirondack Spruce.
This particular G4.2 is fully loaded with creature comforts for playability and intonation. The multiscale fretboard is modeled after Andy McKee’s personal G4.2 (26” bass to 25.4” treble), there are twin arm and rib bevels, and Michael’s heel “swoosh” combined with a Florentine cutaway for easy access to the upper dusty frets. This guitar growls, it purrs, it exclaims, it converses. We keep playing different styles on it, and each comes out beautifully.

2018 Greenfield G2, Malaysian Blackwood/Alpine Moonspruce
Juicy, fat, a full-bodied beauty: our like-new 2018 Greenfield G2 is a force of nature. Malaysian Blackwood back and sides, Alpine Moonspruce top, twin arm & rib bevels plus a Florentine cutaway—and that’s just for starters. Michael also installed his DADGAD multiscale board (26.125” to 25.4”), Baljak tuners, his “swoosh” heel, and Spalted rosette to tie it all together. And this beautiful package comes wrapped up in a Mainstage flight case to boot.
There’s some serious meat on these bones: the bass response is rich and enveloping, and those treble strings almost have a life of their own. The note-for-note balance is superb; somehow Michael manages to make individual notes juicy and larger-than-life, but clearly defined relative to adjacent ones. Loud and clear, indeed.

2009 Greenfield G1 7-String, Koa/Alpine
Oh, to play a Greenfield guitar. Michael’s work is a testament to the tonal fruits that can be plucked with a dogged determination to experimentation–this 2009 G1 is sweet, indeed. She’s basically a tour of the custom features Greenfield offers: multiscale, 7 strings, elevated fingerboard, arm and rib bevels, pinless bridge, soundport, Spalted Maple and Abalone rosette. Pairing Koa with Lutz Spruce in a smaller body gives this G1 great clarity and a crystalline separation between the strings; and with that extra 7th string, that separation is all the more crucial.
If you’re worried about the fingerboard being too wide or the multiscale challenging, don’t–the playability is smooth enough to spread on your morning toast. This G1 is deceptively comfortable to play. Interested in testing the uncharted tuning waters which that fearsome extra string offers? The sky’s basically the limit; we found that AEADEAE (DADGAD tuned down with an E on the highest string) was an excellent leaping point for more exotic explorations. If you’re even remotely interested, reach out–there aren’t many guitars like this on the market, and none of them are going to be so well-outfitted as this 2009 Greenfield G1 7-String multiscale Baritone.
