2019 C.F. Holcomb Kodiak, Quilted Mahogany
We love collaborating with our builders on custom builds—this latest 2019 Kodiak from C.F. Holcomb knocks it out the park. After our last Kodiak sold (the one with The Tree: https://www.dreamguitars.com/shop/brand-new-c-f-holcomb-kodiak-the-tree-mahogany-k16025.html), we immediately commissioned another one, this time in highly figured Quilted Mahogany. One-piece Cocobolo neck, Lollar P90 neck pickup, single cone resonator with antique bronze cover and tailpiece. Played in Open G or D, this Holcomb is an absolute joy. Putting it through its paces in Standard for some flatpicked fiddle tunes? A blast. The setup is slinky and quick, and that pairs nicely with the sweet, enveloping voice. This Kodiak weighs only a little over six pounds, pretty light by resonator standards, and that translates to a instrument that’s easy to keep cruising on for extended periods of time.
Here’s an additional demo with our own Paul Heumiller: https://youtu.be/93Uc_yUiI0M.

Here’s a treat you don’t often see: one of Jason and Pharis Romero’s wood-bodied reso guitars. Figured Maple with a dark stain for the body and neck, a National brass coverplate and cone, custom brass tailpiece with “Romero” on the side, and a slotted headstock for vintage flair. The J. Romero Wood-Bodied Resonator spins function into fashion by leaving the screws of the brass fingerboard extension exposed, and gold Gotoh tuners matched with gold EVO frets.
The biscuit cone bridge and wood body lend a delicious darkness to the tone, which is contrasted to the cool, bell-like timbre of the treble strings. This is a resonator guitar that you can play softly and still get an enveloping, articulate tone. We found the setup teased into the sweet spot between fingerstyle and slide, adding to the dynamism this J. Romero reso is capable of.
It’s a breeze to play, with a voice for smooth pieces and rousing blues: we adore this 2015 Romero Resonator.Other keywords: banjo, j romero, resonator guitar, reso-phonic, slide guitar, guitar slide, blues guitar

We’ve brought this bad boy back to life with a brand new neck from National Reso-Phonic, making this 1931 National Duolian the perfect combination of vintage and contemporary: plays like fresh butter, rings out like a veteran crooner. Steel body plus single cone resonator, 12 frets to the body, and the perfect amount of patina and play wear to look the part. Clean, clear trebles really bring a lot of color to the voice, and the bass and mids fill it out the rest of the way with a delightful warmth.

1929 National Style O, need we say more? Ok…. well this one is all original, with killer tone and great action. It comes to us from a pro player and it’s the real deal. Add to Compare1930 National Triolian, Brass
This is an extremely rare find in vintage Nationals. Here we have a 1930 National Triolian (the first year of production) in Walnut finish but we discovered underneath it is a Style O Brass body! According to Don Young at National Resophonic, during the depression nothing was wasted, so if the engraving in a Style O had a flaw they would paint it and sell it as a Triolian. Very few of these probably exist in the world and it gives this one a great story. The last owner had master Luthier Bill Tippin go over the entire guitar and lovingly bring it up to date with regards to playability and reliability. There is $1500 of repair work in this guitar. The neck was reset and refretted, a new cone was installed to increase the tone and a Highlander Biscuit pickup added for live use. Lastly it has a new National case so this one is completely hassle free, you get all the vintage tone but with modern playability and stability. So here’s a chance for a very rare, Brass Body Triolian with no issues.

We are delighted to share with you this extraordinary early 1927 National Style 1 Tri-Cone guitar. The condition is unlike anything we’ve ever seen, no dings, scratches, still shining like a new dime. The tone is awe-inspiring with the deep, mellowness that only age can instill. This is the Holy Grail of Tri-Cone Resonators. Serial #0327 from the first year of the Tri-Cone design, it also has the one peice neck with slanted top edge proving it’s a very early one. Incredible history, condition and tone. Oh yeh, the original case is with it also!

Add to Compare2003 National Reso-Phonic Style 3
The original household name when it comes to resonator guitars—National Reso-Phonic is our hands down favorite. We just landed a fantastic example of a 2003 Style 3 tricone in Polished Brass with gorgeous lily-of-the-valley engraving along the top, sides, back, and resonator plate. Basically every metal surface except the frets! The setup is slick and easy and currently dialed in for fingerstyle play rather than as a dedicated slide guitar. At about nine and a half pounds, this National is no featherweight, but we feel that girth translates into sweet, fat, juicy tone that’s hard to find elsewhere.

Bedecked with “Lilly of the Valley” engraving of vines and flowers twining around the soundholes, bridge, and back and set up with a tricone resonator, this Style III is the cat’s meow of resophonic guitars. Practically immaculate, this National Resophonic has a mirror reflective surface polished to a floss-your-teeth-in-it sheen, so be prepared to dazzle your audiences with both the brilliance of both your playing and your resonator.
The setup is perfect for the Blues player who wants to do both fingerpicking and slide–be it standard tuning, DADF#AD, or beyond, this National Resophonic has a rich and dynamic voice that’s equally at home for quiet tunes or rousing rags. Here, the tricone resonator is the magic bullet, offering a more complex and nuanced tone by distributing the strings’ vibrations to its three resonators before entering the body’s sound chamber. Add to CompareNew National Resophonic ResoRocket N Nickel Plated Brass
Some of the finest old resonator guitars back in the first half of the 20th Century were Brass bodies that they coated in Nickel. The Brass gave the guitars significant heft, but that weight provided unparalleled sustain and tone. Then nickel provided the looks.
When the good people at National Resophonic began remaking these legends of old, they made it their goal to live up to and even surpass the heritage of their National name. And boy do these guitars do just that! They are doing such a good job that these days it’s nearly impossible to get your hands on one. This ResoRocket N is a mirror-surfaced cannon, a slightly more modern design that’s just begging to be let loose on an old Ragtime piece or some soulful Delta Blues. With a cutaway for improved access to the upper register, this guitar is ready for anything you throw it’s way. Try it for Fingerstyle, Slide, or anything else you feel – it never disappoints.
