Asher Acoustic Hawaiian Style 3, Teardrop Figured Koa
Bill Asher makes the Weissenborn style instruments that phenom Ben Harper plays. This one is absolutely stunning. It’s crafted from highly figured Koa throughout, even the fingerboard. It’s also adorned with Rope Style purflings and fitted with a Seymour Duncan Mag Mic pickup. We’ve sold a number of vintage Weissenborns and this Asher has all the energy and the open voice of the great ones, only it’s much prettier…

This 2011 Paul Beard E Model is a custom build that we commissioned for one of our long time clients a few years back. It is now returning to our flock for a time and we couldn’t be happier to see it here again. It has been treated extremely well since we last hosted it and remains is in true Mint condition.
From the tasteful 12th fret inlay to the unique crescent moon style cover plate and hypnotic Brazilian Rosewood laminate back and sides, this one is made to get people’s attention even before you start to play. But once it’s in your hands and you start grooving away, the sweet singing 12 fret body will dazzle you and your spectators equally. For those worried that twelve frets aren’t enough, this one conveniently comes with an elegant Venetian cutaway that makes hitting the high notes as easy as breathing. If you’re looking for a killer resonator with all the strength and tone you can hope for, this here is one to end your search.

With the Odyssey, Paul Beard has once again raised the bar for what a resonator can sound like. This is one of the first few available anywhere in the country — the first run was snatched up by Vince Gill and other Nashville A-listers.
We custom ordered this amazing version of Paul Beard newest model, The Odyssey. The Camphor Burl back and sides have to be seen to be believed; the natural patterns in the wood are stunning and deep and hypnotically kaleidoscopic, but looks are only a part of it. The sound of these guitars has been described as “huge.” This fine instrument has great bass content, rich, full satisfying volume, and just the right amount of bluesy snarl thanks to the “Legend Tone” polished cone and oval soundhole. The playability of this resonator is perfect in every way. A Fishman Spider pickup and Aura imaging pedal are also included.

Here we have a like-new Dobro from 1995. The steel body with its single cone and biscuit bridge offers up that classic clank and wail reminiscent of old Bukka White recordings. The body is finished in a tobacco burst which blends nicely with the Rosewood fingerboard. The action is set for slide and fingers and the sound is great.

Mike Lewis knew how to build ‘em! This Fine Resophonics beauty from 2017 is a powerhouse single cone with all-Koa body, 25” scale, and a built-in Schertler pickup for dynamite amplification. We loved this one for its sweet spot setup that caters to the player who plays with both fingers and a slide. The tone is quick and lively, with an even response across the registers, which translates faithfully when amplified. Weighing in at a relatively trim six pounds, this (mighty) Fine Resophonics single cone is an easy player.

Our first resonator from C.F. Holcomb takes center stage (and our hearts) from the very first lick to the final ringing chord. There’s so much going on with this cut-above-the-reso, where to begin? How about Christopher’s novel use of “The Tree” Mahogany for a resonator body? We’ve seen Koa sets not a quarter as gorgeous, and somewhere Holcomb uncovered a slice of Cocobolo big enough for a one-piece neck—a standing ovation for his taste in woods.
Add to that a spider cone bridge with bone saddles, Lollar P90 (oh, yes indeed), Gotoh tuners, and a gorgeous headstock plate bearing Holcomb’s John Hancock. But let’s talk tone. This Holcomb Kodiak boasts a voice that is, truly, greater than the sum of its parts (and what fine parts they are): rich and colorful reso tone with the spider bridge, a fiery brand of warmth to light up the bass, and whip-crack trebles that soar when you give the Lollar some juice. National, eat your heart out. Please note, this Holcomb comes with a weeks’ supply of paper towels to catch any accidental tears of joy (also works for excess saliva).

We love collaborating with our builders on custom builds—this latest 2019 Kodiak from C.F. Holcomb knocks it out the park. After our last Kodiak sold (the one with The Tree: https://www.dreamguitars.com/shop/brand-new-c-f-holcomb-kodiak-the-tree-mahogany-k16025.html), we immediately commissioned another one, this time in highly figured Quilted Mahogany. One-piece Cocobolo neck, Lollar P90 neck pickup, single cone resonator with antique bronze cover and tailpiece. Played in Open G or D, this Holcomb is an absolute joy. Putting it through its paces in Standard for some flatpicked fiddle tunes? A blast. The setup is slinky and quick, and that pairs nicely with the sweet, enveloping voice. This Kodiak weighs only a little over six pounds, pretty light by resonator standards, and that translates to a instrument that’s easy to keep cruising on for extended periods of time.

Here’s a treat you don’t often see: one of Jason and Pharis Romero’s wood-bodied reso guitars. Figured Maple with a dark stain for the body and neck, a National brass coverplate and cone, custom brass tailpiece with “Romero” on the side, and a slotted headstock for vintage flair. The J. Romero Wood-Bodied Resonator spins function into fashion by leaving the screws of the brass fingerboard extension exposed, and gold Gotoh tuners matched with gold EVO frets.
The biscuit cone bridge and wood body lend a delicious darkness to the tone, which is contrasted to the cool, bell-like timbre of the treble strings. This is a resonator guitar that you can play softly and still get an enveloping, articulate tone. We found the setup teased into the sweet spot between fingerstyle and slide, adding to the dynamism this J. Romero reso is capable of.
It’s a breeze to play, with a voice for smooth pieces and rousing blues: we adore this 2015 Romero Resonator.Other keywords: banjo, j romero, resonator guitar, reso-phonic, slide guitar, guitar slide, blues guitar

Steel body plus single cone resonator, 12 frets to the body, and the perfect amount of patina and play wear to look the part. Clean, clear trebles really bring a lot of color to the voice, and the bass and mids fill it out the rest of the way with a delightful warmth.
