The Pinyon, a stunning small-bodied guitar constructed from Lucky Strike Redwood and straight-grained Brazilian Rosewood reflects the builder at the very top of his game. It boasts a twelve-fret body join, which places the bridge in the middle of the sweet spot of the lower bout, while also offering a generous contoured cutaway, for those who want the best of both worlds — tonal superiority and full-fretboard access. Here we have a Micheletti Osprey “rigid rim” jumbo in Western Red Cedar and Padauk. The rigid rim is a patented design element that Rick has developed in an effort to stiffen the sides to aid in greater projection and improved treble response. Additionally, this makes for a very comfortable instrument with no sharp corners. Indeed, the Osprey has a great big voice with clearly defined trebles, thanks to the intense Padauk back and sides, and plenty of warmth and bass response courtesy of the Cedar top.

This Monkey Pod and Bearclaw Sitka guitar by Jeffrey Yong was made for the 2013 Healdsburg Guitar Festival. Jeffrey’s work is unmistakably individual and distinct from any angle: structurally, aesthetically, tonally, even his tonewood selection is unique among his contemporaries. This one of course comes with all the bells and whistles: custom inlay, scoop cutaway, arm bevel, sound port, etc. and has an especially nice midrange to its voice.
