2012 McConnell 16 Inch, Brazilian Rosewood/German Spruce
Jordan McConnell pulls off one of the most inspiring voices on the market today. This amazing 16 Inch was originally custom built for a client of ours in 2012 who insisted on the gorgeous set of Brazilian Rosewood back and sides that you see here. The German Spruce provides McConnell’s legendary clarity, and the Satinwood bindings tie this gorgeous package tight together. From the multiscale neck to Jordan’s specialty-modified bracing system, this 16 Inch shares the stage with very few other guitars of its calibre. You’re going to want to play this guitar; trust us. And never put it down.

Here we have a 2016 electrified rarity from the one and only Jordan McConnell, who we’ve enjoyed an exclusive relationship with for years. This electric semi-hollow is loaded with Bare Knuckle Pickups, PAF-style humbuckers called “The Mule.” These pickups offer truly insane range of tonal possibilities, from a sweet chime, to a monstrous growl. At full volume these pickups will push any amp to the brink of saturation. Immensely Hi-Fi, these PAF-style humbuckers can handle any sonic task. Also featured, Jordan McConnell’s signature neck profile–a nut width of 1 3/4″ feels like an acoustic, yet screams like a Les Paul. The Semi-hollow body adds a layer of complexity and warmth. Elegantly comfortable to play with both arm and rib bevels. Indian Rosewood back and sides, paired with a Sitka Spruce top. This guitar’s aesthetic is as unique and diverse as its musical timbre. An instrument that can truly fit in any collection.

This 2012 Dreadnought from Jordan McConnell is, simply put, a powerhouse. Strength, this guitar has in spades, and balanced from bass to trebles for both the fingerstylist and the flatpicker. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides pair up with Adirondack Spruce on top, and the rosette is a stunning example of Jordan’s intricate mosaic work bounded between Abalone circles. Oil finish neck feels effortless and familiar in hand, and the 1.75”/2.25”/25.4” setup works fantastically in dropped tunings just as quickly as standard.

Winnipeg’s own Jordan McConnell has wrapped yet another jaw dropping build with 15 Inch Model #073 in Padauk and Moonspruce. Madagascar Rosewood appointments at the bridge and fretboard, plus a multiscale setup of 26 1/4” to 25 1/2”; and twin arm & rib bevels for creature comfort (note how Jordan created a braided effect with layering the Madagascar on the arm bevel). Then there’s this Padauk-Moonspruce combo. A distinctive voice that’s unique even by McConnell standards, we find this beauty has a glassy evenness across the range that mixes up gorgeously; notes ringing out clearly and without stumbling into each other. A light smattering of treble overtones cast some added color and presence, and pair up with a crisp bottom end. This is a fingerstyle phenom.

So begins the next epoch of Jordan McConnell’s career in lutherie. With this 15 Inch Model, #071, Jordan will no longer be accepting orders from clients. Instead, he will be exclusively building instruments according to his own aesthetics and voice. We are so grateful to have been a part of his process for so many years, and it is an immense honor for us to continue to offer these new, completely Jordan creations, to you. As you’ll see, #071 is a fitting start. Here’s Jordan:
“This is the first guitar to have been entirely built in my new studio, so I wanted it to be special. The top is master grade Swiss Moonspruce cut in 2004, and the back and sides are chosen from some of the first sets of Brazilian Rosewood I acquired back in 2002. The Curly Spanish Cedar neck was from the very first order I placed with A&M Wood Supply in 1999, as is the Ebony fretboard. By choosing some of the oldest wood in my collection, I wanted to reach back to the beginning of my career while at the same time showcasing the direction my building has been moving in the last few years, both aesthetically and sonically.
With the smaller body and 12-fret neck join on this guitar, I chose to revisit the influence that the classical builders have had on my instruments and really dive into the intimacy and emotion that is inherent in this configuration, while still building in enough power and volume to dig in and have some fun.”Other keywords: joran mcconnell, fingerstyle, dadgad, fanfret, fanned fret, multi scale, multi-scale

This is what happens when you put the best materials in the best hands—two sets of hands, in fact. Our 2016 16 Inch McConnell is one of Jordan’s masterpieces in Brazilian Rosewood and Swiss Moonspruce, and Jordan paired up with Jimmi Wingert for an inlay package of vines and birds. What a feast for eyes and ears. A multiscale setup from 26.25” to 25.5” further accentuates the presence and drive of the bass response, while keeping a measure of sweet warmth to the mids and trebles that balances intimacy with power.
The Mahogany neck is satin finished, feeling like the touch of an old friend, with a smooth setup to match. The arm bevel is slim and unassuming for creature comfort without taking away from the generous curves of Jordan’s build. Incredibly figured Brazilian Rosewood—these are the kind of brick-red hues that we associate with some of our all-time favorite BRW guitars. The tuners are a custom number from Rodgers with White Pearl buttons and gold hardware that sets off the Jimmi Wingert marquetry and Jordan’s geometric backplate.
It is an honor to offer this masterpiece, but we’ll caution you: it won’t last long. Give a shout to make this one yours.Other keywords: joran mcconnell, fingerstyle, dadgad, fanfret, fanned fret, multi scale, multi-scale, exclusive

This 2018 16 Inch model from Jordan McConnell is a lot like Paul’s personal McConnell: Brazilian Rosewood over Moonspruce, 26.25-25.5″ multiscale, and oh. so. beautiful. The fingerstyle response is surgically precise, from Standard to Cadd9 and onward to more esoteric tunings. We are Jordan’s exclusive representative, and he is no longer taking orders but building guitars to his own specifications. Interested? Give us a shout!

There may be no such thing as the perfect guitar, but this 2018 McConnell is just about as close as you’re going to get. Jordan’s unique brand of lutherie makes for some of the most inspirational guitars we’ve ever seen, and this 2018 16 Inch model does. not. disappoint. This is Jordan’s first African Blackwood guitar, topped with Swiss Moonspruce and trimmed out with matching arm and rib bevels. Spiraling along the fretboard and headstock (before swirling around the soundhole is a combination of Satinwood, African Blackwood, Ebony, and Madagascar Rosewood. Rodgers tuners (of course), French Polish on top for maximum resonance, and a fabulous example of Jordan’s carved bridge (here in Madagascar Rosewood). Oh, and then there’s the multiscale fretboard (26 to 25 inches) for dialed in ergonomics and intonation across a spectrum of tunings.

We already knew that Jordan McConnell was one of the finest acoustic guitar makers alive, so Dream Guitars was pretty stoked when we found something new show up at our door. Instead of one of his SJs, we found not one but two electric guitars from the man himself–looking dressed up for Sunday dinner with Jordan’s eye for detail and curving headstocks–waiting patiently to be plugged in and cranked up.
This one, s/n E007, was originally built to Paul’s specs, so of course this McConnell has a multiscale fingerboard (26″ on the bass, 25″ on the treble), Wenge neck, back, sides, and trim, Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, and split McNelly humbuckers. Both guitars feature Jordan’s distinctive neck profile, as well as dual arm and rib bevels. Strung with heavier strings, this electric can cruise down to C or D tunings with ease and the bass notes remain growly and present. With the split coil McNelly pickups, you have a wide range of pickup options to create an entire host of different tones from Rock to Blues, but this baby sounds particularly impressive for fingerstyle Jazz.
Add to that a fancy tailpiece with a hidden mechanism for accessing the string compartment, a Satinwood backstrap on the headstock, and an Ameritage case, and you’ve got one of the classiest rockin’ electrics in your hands. Available now!

Custom built for one of our our own, this 2013 McConnell 16 Inch is everything (and more) that we’ve come to expect from Jordan’s shop: absurdly precise note separation, bracing depths, as flawlessly balanced as it is constructed. Seriously nice Brazilian Rosewood make up the back and sides, paired with a German Spruce top for creamy sustain, and everything is trimmed in eye-popping Snakewood (from the bridge to the headstock and everywhere in between, right down to the fretboard itself!).
Wrapped up with Jordan’s exciting marquetry across the rosette, fingerboard extension, and heel–and Snakewood-capped Alessi tuners–this 16 Inch screams elegance and rich potential. Oh, to play this guitar: it is an exercise in futility to put it down after the first strum. We put it through its paces with DADGAD and CGCGAD; no problems. The basses remained crisp and resonant, and those trebles continued to cut like a sushi chef’s knife. We’d advise you to jump on this while you can, ‘cuz it’s not long before someone else swoops in and snatches this work of art up for themselves!

For demo only, NOT FOR SALE: Jordan McConnell has been a friend of Dream Guitars for some years now. He’s visited us regularly while touring with his Grammy and Juno award winning group The Duhks of Canada. Somehow he’s managed to build over 30 guitars while touring the world as a player. We commissioned this very special Brazilian Rosewood and German Spruce 16 Inch nearly two years ago after playing several of Jordan’s instruments that blew us away. In his young building career he’s already crafted guitars for Celtic Guitarist John Doyle and Seth Avett of the Avett Brothers. He can now add Dream Guitars owner Paul Heumiller to the list as Paul has fallen in love with this multiscale beauty.

My building is informed by 30 years as a guitar player, nearly half of that as a professional with the Grammy and Juno Award winning band The Duhks. My years of touring and constant playing have resulted in a broad experience as a musician and have also led me to an intimate understanding of the various aspects of a guitar’s function and playability. From sound production to set up, I have been involved in a love affair with the guitar for most of my life.
I built my first guitar in September of 1999 with David Freeman in Saskatchewan, Canada. It was really just an interesting way to get a (hopefully) better acoustic guitar than I could afford at the time, but I was consumed and I never looked back. I returned to Winnipeg, quit my job, took over my father’s small workshop and began building guitars full time. In 2001 I traveled to Spain for a masterclass with Spanish Luthier José Luis Romanillos. This marked a significant turning point in my building and ignited a deep passion and respect for the craft and for those who came before.
I build mostly by hand, and use a minimum of jigs and fixtures. While this results in a limited number of instruments each year, it gives me the freedom to meet specific requests for customizing, and also allows me to work each piece of timber to bring out the best it has to offer, both sonically and aesthetically.
Jordan has been a friend of the shop for a while now. He's an amazing guitarist and tours with The Duhks, an incredible band that plays traditional roots music with a twist. Every time Jordan's in town he comes by and we peek inside the best guitars in the shop. He's truly in love with his craft and has already made guitars for big names like John Doyle and Tim Sparks. In my opinion Jordan has a true gift for both music and guitar that makes him a special builder with true insight into what a player needs and wants. I'm sure I'll have a McConnell guitar one day soon!
