This is their first 45-style Dreadnought, built in honor of the late Preston Thompson as the fruition of one of his dreams. The folks at Preston Thompson Guitars outdo themselves every. single. time. We just receive this latest Shipwreck Brazilian 000, and already we’re head over heels for it. Gorgeous BRW paired with Adirondack Spruce and 41-style Abalone “Mystic” Snowflakes along the fretboard and PTG’s original Regency Torch headstock inlay. This 000-14SBA is suited up with a 24.9 scale for warmth and easy playability, and the neck itself is finished in satin that’s gossamer to the touch. Brazilian Rosewood bindings throughout, tortoise-style pickguard, and Waverly Relic tuners round out the image of elegance. The Adirondack top is braced according to Preston’s advanced X, pre-war scalloped pattern, and as a result there’s plenty of power and headroom when you lean in, and clarity and presence under a softer attack. Fingerpicking another guitar will never feel quite the same after a session with this Thompson 000–the easy playability and string-to-string balance make this the perfect companion for a variety of fingerstyle modes. The low-end is well-defined with lots of headroom, thanks to that gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood, with a top end that’s got more pop and sizzle than your fingertips will know what to do with.
