Ed Claxton’s Malabar model strikes a fine balance between Parlor and OM: intimate and colorful dynamic range, plus added power and projection. This particular example is a beauty with Brazilian Rosewood and Engelmann Spruce, 12 fret neck, and a 1 7/8” nut for comfortable lefthand work. The setup is slinky and smooth, holding up well for dropped and altered tunings, and with a sub-four-pounds playing weight it’s so comfy to boot.
The voice is lush and smooth, with an easy blend between bass, mids, and treble. Big chords sound out sweet and envelop you; a perfect instrument for spacious airs. Built in 2003, this Claxton is still in excellent shape, with the added bonus of having opened up for going on two decades.

Powerhouse and like new! We’ve taken in a Santa Cruz OM from 2020 that’s got projection to spare, and clarity to share. Brick-red Cocobolo back and sides with a creamy Moonspruce top, Koa bindings and Waverly tuners, and custom Abalone headstock appointments. Satin neck feels oh-so-silky in our hands, and everywhere else is buffed to a high sheen gloss that really catches the light. We’re impressed by this one, it’s got a rich and crisp voice that belies its age.

Owned by Cheryl Wheeler, no less! This 1995 Olson SJ, dubbed “Olive Oil” by Wheeler, is from one of our favorite periods of Jim’s career. Olsons from the mid 90s just have a special color and openness that is a joy to experience, and this one’s got it in spades. It’s been played in and opened up handsomely (thanks, Cheryl!), is in excellent playing shape with a slender neck and 1 11/16” nut, L.R. Baggs LB6 pickup, and a bombproof Calton flight case with custom Small Dog cover. Cedar top over Indian Rosewood body, non cutaway, and weighs in at about 4.75 pounds.

The Santa Cruz Firefly is petite and powerful at the same time. Richard Hoover’s travel design makes for an über lightweight build (3lbs) with a 14-fret neck, satin neck and Gotoh 510 tuners. This beauty is from 2020, all Mahogany, and decked out with a light sunburst across the back, sides, and top. A short scale setup at 23 7/8” is easy on the hands and warms up the trebles. And all this comes wrapped up safe and sound in an Ameritage case.

This one won’t be here long. A Kim Walker SJ from 2000 that’s decked out in a dark sunburst, Indian Rosewood back and sides, and a Sitka Spruce top. This Sitka was 25-years-old then, which makes it 45 now! We’ve played several of Kim’s guitars built around this time, and each one had a little something special to the voice (and that’s beyond the already incredible tone we associate with Kim’s work). We love how lively and responsive this one is. It’s lightweight, just over four pounds, and it plays like grass-fed butter. What more can you ask for? Come and get it while you can!

This is the first piece of Ariel Ameijenda’s to be featured at our shop, and we’re already impressed. Straight-grained Indian Rosewood back and sides are paired with a German Spruce top, French Polished throughout for maximum resonance, and a slim 3lbs 10oz playing weight. The trebles are characterized by a smooth, round flavor that pairs up well with the mids and bass. 650mm scale on a Spanish Cedar neck, and dependable Gotoh tuners round it all out. The neck profile comes in at a rounded U, and feels slightly slender in our hands; the setup is superb.

Petite powerhouse! We love Bruce’s work; each piece is unique, and this Sexauer Companion is no exception: exceptional. Black Limba body paired with Engelmann Spruce on top and an easy-playing multiscale setup makes for a crisp, even voice that holds up as well for Standard as Altered Tunings. EVO frets will be holding up for a looong time before you’ll ever have to worry about a dress, and the incredibly slim weight of this FT-0 (a little over three pounds, really) means it’ll be a long time before you want to put it down.

Another work of functional art from Michael Greenfield. We adore every Greenfield guitar we’ve had the honor of playing; Michael’s signature is flawless construction methods and a vigorous, comprehensive, enveloping tone. This small body G3.2.2 model from 2019 brings all of that in a petite package, and here further outfitted with a 26-25” multiscale setup, African Blackwood body, and Alpine Moonspruce top. Rodgers tuners, arm bevel and Michael’s “Palm-A-Way” bevel to boot. Elevated fingerboard, trademark pinless bridge, and all wrapped up in a bombproof MainStage flight case.

At last, our latest Bresnan GS has arrived. Hats off to Dan and Sean! Top notch Brazilian Rosewood with German Spruce (one of our favorites), Alessi tuners for an elegant touch at the headstock, and their flawlessly executed #3 rosette for the soundhole. Ebony bindings, 25.4” scale, and a custom Ameritage case for stylish safety. The voice is characterized by a lively energy and smooth trebles. It’s really a lovely instrument for fingerstyle; notes have a sweetness and roundness to them. Frankly, every aspect of this GS model is smooth, from the neck carve to the high gloss Nitrocellulose finish. This Bresnan is a fantastic example of understated aesthetics and a modern voice.

Are we excited? That’s an understatement. We’ve just taken on our first archtop from Southern California’s own Tad Brown—and this brand new CC Gold model is a dream come true. Honey amber hues abound with Red Maple back and sides and a Red Spruce top, pale Maple bindings (rounded for such a lovely play feel), and a CC Pickups ES250 Charlie Christian pickup. Slim, slim play weight (just a hair over five pounds, depending on how heavy your strings), combined with those rolled bindings, makes for an effortless player; setup is gossamer from tuner to tail. Rosewood center strip along the back of the neck as a nod to the vintage Charlie Christian ES-175s, and Tad extended that motif for the pickguard, cello bridge, and tailpiece in Rosewood. The ES250 Charlie Christian pickup is strong and crisp when playing electric, and this CC Gold offers a vibrant and balanced acoustic tone as well. One of our favorite Jazz players, Sean McGowan, plays Tad’s instruments—and we can’t think of a finer recommendation than that.

Michael Kennedy of Indian Hill Guitars has pulled off a mean feat: this Concert model is vocal, articulate, and sweetly balanced. All wrapped in a gorgeous package with Black Limba back and sides and Lutz Spruce on top, soundport, and a tornavoz installed in the soundhole. The voice really is so, so crisp and well defined; it’s an excellent fingerstyle instrument in Standard as well as DADGAD and other more arcane tunings. The neck is finished in satin for a silk-smooth play feel. The body bindings are delightfully rounded for a comfortable instrument-body connection. Really, from tuner to tail this Indian Hill is a bombshell.

Looking for a powerhouse prewar without breaking the bank? Our 1936 00-17 is the answer! Freshly restored by our repair staff, this 87-year-old, All-Mahogany Martin is heaps of fun, plays like a brand new guitar, and has oh so much woody warmth and roundness under the hood.

We landed a treasure trove of vintage pieces which our repair folks have lovingly restored to peak playing condition—this Martin 0-17 was built in 1937 and is still ready for action! The 0 size is petite, but by no means quiet (the intervening decades having done some work on opening up the all-Mahogany body), and the setup is that of a brand new guitar.
Coming to you at a trim 3lbs 11oz, this 0-17 is a featherweight player that’s easy on the hands, and the finish on the neck is worn through on the cheeks for that old-pair-of-jeans feel. It also has a Barcus Berry bridge plate pickup that sounds great plugged straight in to an acoustic amp.

Long time luthier Tomas Delgado comes from luthier stock in both his father and grandfather, with whom he worked for a number of years. Today, he continues to uphold their tradition of guitarbuilding with his own work, and we’re proud to offer this gorgeous preowned example of just how far he’s come. This Classical was built in 2008 with premium Brazilian Rosewood and Cedar, and has been lovingly played in since then. And it’s a featherweight: right at 3lbs 4oz! The response is quick and even between the registers, and we love the blooming flavor of overtones in the bass and mids. French Polished for maximum resonance (part of what keeps the build weight so low here), this Delgado Classical is a dynamic tool for the serious musician.

One of the most well-known names in modern lutherie, Ervin Somogyi. We’ve been lucky to work with his guitars for a number of years, and today we’ve landed a unique piece of Somogyi history: his first 12-String, built in 1977. Originally owned by none other than Alex DeGrassi, this Ervin’s first has Indian Rosewood back and sides and Spruce on top, 12 frets to the body, and a Classical-style mosaic rosette. The body dimensions are slim for a 12-string (14 5/8” across the lower bout), granting a warmth and punchy flavor to the voice. While it doesn’t have the signature bass response that Ervin’s guitars are now known for, this 12-String has a balance and intimacy to it that really lends itself to recording. The setup is slick and easy, the nut coming in at 1 7/8” and the saddle string spacing at 2 5/16”. It’s a fantastic 12-String by itself, and it has the added provenance of being Ervin’s first.

The Don Edwards signature 00 from Santa Cruz Guitar Company is a fantastic example of the cowboy crooner’s fingerpicking partner: easy on the hands, crisp and clear, with an even decay that doesn’t get in the way of the vocals. We’ve landed a beautiful lil Mahogany number here, appropriately dubbed the SCGC Cowboy Singer in recognition of western music’s inimitable Don Edwards. This one is #17, built in 2012 with an all-Mahogany body and 12-fret neck with Don’s signature and star inlays. Slotted headstock, Waverly tuners with Snakewood knobs—and this handsome plucker is only a little over three and a half pounds! The voice has a clean and balanced definition with a scallop-braced top, and packs a lot of projection, especially for a small-bodied guitar. It’s really a fun one to pick up; it’s really a hard one to put down.

The PRS Custom 24-08 combines their Custom 24 model with some of the features of their 408 model, meaning you’re getting a Mahogany body and Maple cap, 24 frets at 25” scale, the Gen III trem, 85/15 pickups—plus dual coil taps in the form of mini-toggles nestled between the volume and tone knobs for a maximum of eight different pickup combinations. This beauty is from 2017, has virtually no marks, and is decked out with a Copperhead burst that is simply stunning.

So begins the next epoch of Jordan McConnell’s career in lutherie. With this 15 Inch Model, #071, Jordan will no longer be accepting orders from clients. Instead, he will be exclusively building instruments according to his own aesthetics and voice. We are so grateful to have been a part of his process for so many years, and it is an immense honor for us to continue to offer these new, completely Jordan creations, to you. As you’ll see, #071 is a fitting start. Here’s Jordan:
“This is the first guitar to have been entirely built in my new studio, so I wanted it to be special. The top is master grade Swiss Moonspruce cut in 2004, and the back and sides are chosen from some of the first sets of Brazilian Rosewood I acquired back in 2002. The Curly Spanish Cedar neck was from the very first order I placed with A&M Wood Supply in 1999, as is the Ebony fretboard. By choosing some of the oldest wood in my collection, I wanted to reach back to the beginning of my career while at the same time showcasing the direction my building has been moving in the last few years, both aesthetically and sonically.
With the smaller body and 12-fret neck join on this guitar, I chose to revisit the influence that the classical builders have had on my instruments and really dive into the intimacy and emotion that is inherent in this configuration, while still building in enough power and volume to dig in and have some fun.”

When our repair staff get a hold of a project Martin with great potential, they make sure the job’s done right. We took in this 1943 000 as a 000-21 with a number of issues, and over time stabilized everything and brought it back to life, then took it one step further and upgraded the appointments from a 21 to more of a 40 or 42 style hybrid. Ken and Joe did an incredible job bringing this beauty back into premium playing shape, and now it’s raring to go!

This is what it’s all about. We are so excited to have this prewar powerhouse in the shop! Martin 000-18 #31424 was built in 1927, featuring a long scale fretboard on 12-fret neck, slotted headstock, and of course Adirondack-over-Mahogany body. The original finish had deteriorated, so the guitar has been refinished with French Polish for maximum resonance, and as such has only a few minor marks—marvelous for a guitar of this age. The voice is exquisite. Open and lush, with a balanced projection that showcases individual notes as well as big chords. The bar frets have been recently dressed to play as smooth as possible, and we love the added width of the 1 7/8” nut for easy lefthand work. Our repair folks also reset the neck, so this 1927 000-18 is set up for another generation of music!

70s Strat alert! We’ve landed an Olympic White number from 1974 that’s packed full of mojo and plays like butter. Weighs in under eight pounds, comes in the original hardshell case, 3-way switch, and the play marks to prove it’s been making lots of music for the past few decades. One of the pickups is a replacement (the original is included in the case). Classic Fender, classic Stratocaster.

Cool for days, we’ve got an autographed ’76 Strat that’s really something special. This Mocha Brown Fender has been signed by not only Charles Brown and the inimitable Buddy Guy, it’s even been handled and signed by the one and only Carlos Santana. 5-way switch with a trem tailpiece and Rosewood fingerboard, this Strat is a lightweight at seven pounds, and the setup is dialed in for maximum butter.

Here we go with a big bodied Rainsong! This guitar has a HUGE voice, close your eyes and we bet you won’t even be able to tell that this isn’t a wood built guitar. As usual the tone for Rainsong is even across the board, there are few guitars made from any material that pull off the evenness of tone that Rainsong does. Playability on a Rainsong is always spot on, any time you want it, any place you need it.

Now this is a guitar for the ages. Ted Åstrand of Sweden is quickly becoming one of our favorite builders. This preowned Å-OM from 2018 is drop dead gorgeous for the eyes, ears, and even hands. Richly colored Madagascar Rosewood back and sides with a creamy Italian Spruce top, 25 inch scale, refined and elegant aesthetic—handsome. The voice is oh, so sweet. Clear from bass to treble, with smooth overtones and a crisp projection. It’s such an exquisite fingerstyle guitar! It practically plays itself with a slinky setup; and it really soaks up altered tunings too.
