Gibson L5 1934 Reissue Maple/Spruce
This is a limited edition replica of the first archtop guitar. Made famous by the first jazz guitarist, Eddie Lang and designed by Lloyd Loar, father of the F-5 mandolin. Lloyd Loar brought several innovations to the Gibson product line, including f-hole, longitudinal tone bars, graduated tops and backs, longer playable necks, and resonance tuning. The Historic Reissue 1934 L-5 accurately recreates one of Lloyd Loar’s crowning achievements. Many feel this model is the single most elegant guitar Gibson ever designed.
Add to Compare1950 Gibson Super 300 Flame Maple/Maple
Just over 200 Super 300s were ever made by Gibson Guitars. The Super 300 is essentially identical to a super 400 but a bit more understated with regard to trim. This beauty from 1950 is in excellent condition and the tone is magical. You can just imagine some of the juke joints it’s been in. The tobacco burst is warm and inviting and the maple back has nice figure as does the tiger striped neck. The neck finish is worn to that perfect feel of a vintage guitar with just enough miles on it. Outstanding…
Add to Compare1978 Gibson LC-5 Maple/Spruce
The Gibson L-5 model needs little introduction; players such as Wes Montgomery, Scotty Moore and Tuck and Patti have made the sound of an L-5 legendary. This beautiful example is an L5-C or Custom L-5 from 1978 and is in wonderful condition. It is completely original but for the pickguard and nut and has a recent refret done to perfection. So not only is this one look stunning, it plays exquisitely up the entire neck.

Bigleaf Maple body, European Spruce top, 15 inches across the lower bout and rigged with a Kent Armstrong humbucker–this 2007 Greenfield Archtop is a sight to see. In hand, the smaller body feels extra comfortable; you can really snug up with this one in your arms. Ebony pickguard, bridge, and tailpiece provide some dark contrast to the honey amber hues present elsewhere. Michael has only ever offered a small handful of archtops–this is only the third we’ve ever seen–and we’re proud to offer this one to you now.

The cherry on top really makes the dessert. This Black Cherry archtop from famed Montreal luthier Michael Greenfield was originally commissioned by Jacques-André Dupont for his Red Guitar Collection in 2009. As such, Michael gave this 17 inch archtop, built with a Super 400 in mind, a sienna red sunburst over the Bigleaf Maple back and sides and European Spruce top. Michael enlisted the enviable skills of inlay maestro Larry Robinson for the pinup girl and cherry inlays along the fretboard and headstock (inspired by a pinup girl-clad gum display rack Michael spied at a local restaurant). A Kent Armstrong Alnico 3 pickup is mounted to the Ebony pickguard, custom built for this guitar to match the fretboard radius and tighter string spacing.
Of tone, this Greenfield’s flavor avoids the saccharine maraschino cherry altogether, instead favoring the dark, complex palette of the morello cherry. Michael’s F holes have a wider aperture than the traditional L-5, so there’s a snappier and crisper response than the Gibson grandaddies. A slim 1 23/32” nut harkens back to the feel of a Super 400 and keeps the strings within easy reach of the player’s left hand for complex jazz chords and solo runs.
It’s safe to say, there’s not another Greenfield, let alone archtop, quite like the Black Cherry. Snag this delicious fruit while you can.Other keywords: lutherie, l5, big leaf maple, western bigleaf maple. naple, jazz box, gotoh

Add to Compare2009 Holst 16 Inch Archtop Laminate Maple/Laminate Maple
If you’re looking for a Jazz box ideal for gigging, the Holst 16″ Archtop is definitely worth considering. With a smaller-than-average Maple body, this Holst has all the warmth and round tonality of a full-size Jazz box, but the more compact and comfortable feel of a semi-hollow body. Amped up with an ES-175 Humbucker pickup perfect for fingerstyle, this guitar really lets those 6 and 13 chords ring in all their complexity–and the wider neck with 1 13/16″ nut makes fingering complicated shapes that much easier. The voice is warm and expressive, with lots of drive. Trebles silky smooth; basses clean and articulate. If you’re looking for the big, round sound for fingerstyle Jazz in a more manageable package, try this Holst 16″ Archtop on for size. This guitar also comes with an extra bridge and saddle, and a TKL hardshell case.
Add to Compare2013 Martin Keith Auriole “Old Soul,” Macassar Ebony/Redwood
Now here’s a fun one that’s in a category all its own: Martin Keith’s hybrid Auriole model, here in Macassar Ebony and Redwood. This one, dubbed “Old Soul,” comes to us from 2013 in primo condition with Martin’s smoothly engineered adjustable neck, zero fret, and carbon fiber reinforcements. Additionally, this Auriole has a K&K Pure Mini pickup installed, here with an 1/8” vintage jack (adapter included). In particular, this Redwood is from Martin’s personal stash of Redwood salvaged from a late 19th century West Coast railroad. The upper register is particularly crisp and present, and balances well with the bass and mids for both fingerstyle and flatpicking. The unique combination of a floating bridge in a flattop design adds clarity and sustain to the bass register, and the offset soundhole gives the player a touch more in their own ear.

Dan Koentopp is a tried and true craftsperson, from what we can tell by the quality of this 2015 Chicagoan oval hole archtop. A delicate and exacting touch brings together a hand-carved Romanian Maple back with a matching Carpathian Spruce top bound in rich red Macassar Ebony and outfitted with a cello-style tailpiece and Macassar Ebony pickguard. A full 17 inches across the lower bout with three inch body depth around; five pounds on the nose, and a slinky smooth setup. The voice is characterized by a warm, round quality that permeates the bass, miss, and trebles—and translates faithfully when amplified with the Barbera bridge pickup (volume knob under the guard). Waverly tuners help keep build weight down, and Dan appointed this Chicagoan with Pearl skyscrapers on the headplate and a corresponding Pearl inlay on the backplate reminiscent of an “espresso art” tulip.
From tuners to tail, this 2015 Chicagoan from Don Koentopp is a work of functional art. We can’t think of higher praise than that.Other keywords: arched top, arch top, fingerstyle jazz, handcarved, cutaway, ebany, hoffee

Stephen Marchione manages to make a 17 inch archtop play as easy as a much smaller guitar–without losing the projection and power and resonance of the big box. The 3″ sides help with this, as well as the silky setup and neck carve. Back and sides are cello-grade Curly Maple, and on top Stephen opted for a set of European Spruce that matches perfectly. Ebony hardware throughout, and the pickup has been more recently upgraded with a custom Marchione-DiMarzio PAF collaboration–and this humbucker sings!
