Here we have an absolutely dreamy Erich Solomon Phoenix archtop in European Flamed Maple and Sitka Spruce. Solomon has been hand-building guitars one at a time in beautiful New Hampshire since 1995, at first in the style of the classic D’Angelico 17″ body design, but since the early 2000’s, he’s striven to express himself with a unique style that reflects his own design sensibilities. One look at this Phoenix is all it takes to see that he’s really onto something — the exaggerated carved undulations carry the eye all over it’s surface, and the pale beauty of the Euro Flamed Maple is utterly intoxicating. What’s more, the tone and playability of this great instrument are second to none.

A beautifully preserved piece of history sits in your lap, and what else could you want? It’s one of the only of its kind, bedecked with pearl and brass and rosewood, Figured Maple back and sides, Spruce top—the 1945 Stromberg Ultra Deluxe. Grover sta-tite tuners, original pickguard, and wrapped up in the original velvet-lined hardshell case, this is an all-original example of one of the early-to-mid 1900s archtop builders work at the peak of their powers.
Elmer Stromberg worked to keep his instruments in the hands of players during the Great Depression fo the 1930s, and during this time evolved his archtops to better compete with a full orchestra by widening the lower bout to a full 17 3/8”, enhancing the volume of this Ultra Deluxe and lending an extra cutting ‘oomph’ to the trebles. The slim neck and narrow nut (1 11/16”) make for a deft left-hand work, and the setup is in a tasty sweet spot for both solos and rhythm.
It is an inspiration just to see an all-original vintage instrument of such rare provenance in person, but this Stromberg follows up that with the seasoned voice of a well-preserved and eminently playable piece of history.Other keywords: jazz, arch top, flatpick, jazz guitar, birdseye maple, mop, f holes, f-holes

Here we’ve landed a sharp-dressed archtop from Utah’s own Ryan Thorell that’s raring to go. This is a 2015 FV Premier (Frank Vignola model) rigged out with some mouth watering tonewoods. We’ve got lovely Figured Oregon Myrtle back and sides with a carved Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood bindings, and lovely Ebony throughout. Schertler tuners in a slotted headstock arrangement with Black Cherry neck and a slightly U/C-shaped profile that’s somewhat reminiscent of a Gypsy Jazz feel. A soundport at the upper bout gives the player a little more “me in the monitor,” and the custom Kent Armstrong humbucker is rigged with volume and tone knobs under the Ebony pickguard.

A delightful first for us here at Dream Guitars. This RMAF (Rocky Mountain Archtop Festival) themed archtop from the workshop of Ben Kahler of Tikatoo Guitars is as wonderful and sonorously exciting as it is visually vibrant.Figured Birch for the back and sides along with Sitka Spruce for the top. Lots of incredible innovations here, in lieu of f holes we have sound ports on the upper bout that create an almost three dimensional saturation affect for the player, and a powerful sonic experience for the listener. Also interesting is Kahler’s use of Roasted Black Locust for the fingerboard and various other appointments. The rest of what makes this guitar unique quite frankly speaks for itself. We suspect that you’ll be hearing a lot more about this incredibly talented up and coming luthier!

This is a fine piece of modern archtop lutherie if ever we’ve seen it. Bryant Trenier’s approach with the Motif model is plainly dressed, all the better to showcase a rich and expressive voice and high quality tonewoods. European Spruce top carved with an X brace pattern and oval hole; carved Mahogany back and sides, venetian cutaway plus a 3″ body depth for easy playability–and this resonant beauty weighs in under five pounds. Trenier designed this 2008 Motif with acoustic fingerstyle play in mind, and at that it certainly excels. There’s also good headroom for a pick attack. The neck has had the finish smoothed down for a bare wood feel that feels, well, perfect, with an overall full profile that just fits. This instrument is currently purely acoustic, but the pickup jack from a previous pickup remains installed should you choose to amplify.
