1978 Banchetti Concert Brazilian/Cedar
Here is a wonderful kept Paris Banchetti guitar crafted in 1978 in Miami, FL. Banchetti builds in the Spanish tradition and this Brazilian Rosewood and Cedar guitar is dark, warm and lush. It has not been played much in it’s life so the condition is nearly mint, but the wood and finish have dried and aged beautifully giving it a mature and powerful voice. Here’s a rare chance at a concert guitar that is over 30 years old but pristine and full of life.

When you listen carefully, a little piece of history can be heard crackling in the voice of vintage instruments such as this 1894 Parlor guitar from C.T. Beitel (1869-1916), one of the only examples existent today. Beitel, who worked with Martin at the end of the nineteenth century, has been identified by some as the first American-born apprentice at Martin. Clemence was the cousin of C.A. Zoebisch, Martin’s distributer in those days. This instrument was completed and signed by Beitel in June of 1894, and you can still see his signature on the underside of the top (“C.T. Beitel, 6/94, Easton”).
Understandably, this Parlor is similar to Martin’s instruments at the time in many ways, but it doesn’t fit neatly into any of Martin’s appointment packages. The top is X braced and features a Pearl rosette and Herringbone purflings. The body and neck is bound in actual Ivory (which was also used to make the oval-shaped tuner buttons). The Maple bridge plate is to all appearances original, as is bridge, the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, and the Adirondack Spruce top. The tuners are original as well: German-built Jerome tuners engraved with flowers. These tuners were only found on Martin’s most decadent models from this period.
The voice is creamy smooth and tinged with warm overtones, and plays very easily. Weighing under three pounds, this Beitel is a true featherweight, but still manages to pack a lot of sound into a small package. We’d expect no less from an instrument that precedes us by over 117 years!

From Wikipedia about Jimmy D’Aquisto: “James L. D’Aquisto (1935-1995) was an American guitar maker best known as one of the premier makers of custom archtop guitars.[1] He served as an apprentice to John D’Angelico in the early 1950s and was considered his successor after the latter’s death in 1964. From his shop in Farmingdale, New York, D’Aquisto became the top guitar maker from the late 1960s until his death in 1995. Today, his guitars sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and some expect that the first guitar in history to sell above the $1,000,000 mark will be a D’Aquisto.” D’Aquisto’s log book indicates 3 nylon string guitars were made, but this is the only nylon string D’Aquisto known to still exist. Here we have a wonderful guitar from German luthier Edgar Mönch, built in 1972 in his Frieburg, Germany shop. Later Mönch moved from from Munich to Toronto, Canada in 1965. There, he trained such guitar luminaries as Jean Larrivee who in turn taught Sergei de Jonge. John Williams played a Edgar Monch guitar early in his career. It isn’t very often that these outstanding instruments come up on the market, and when they do, they are usually snatched up quickly.
This fine guitar was built in 1972, and overall is in great shape. The body is Brazilian Rosewood and German Spruce and together the woods combine for a strong projection and clear ‘German’ tone. It’s easy to be articulate and accurate on this guitar. See what John Williams discovered in the magnificent voice of this suberb guitar from Edgar Monch!

One of the miracles of classical guitar building in the twentieth century, Ignacio Fleta has contributed immensely to his field. In the world of nylon-stringed instruments, Fleta is a mythic figure, and his guitars are certifiably legendary. We are proud to here offer you the chance to own a part of that legend with our 1962 Fleta Concert Classical. Over 54 years old, the European Spruce top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides have completely opened up, rendering the voice immense and rich, with a flawless degree of articulation from string to string. Possessing a unique ability to completely absorb the player’s attention, this Fleta is captivating: long hours will pass in what feels like only minutes as you explore the multitude of registers, voices, and modes which are hidden in the Ebony fretboard.
Considering its age, this guitar has the typical play wear of more than five decades’ worth of music, but is in otherwise excellent condition, and plays as smoothly as it must have felt when Ignacio Fleta finished the guitar in 1962. The low-end hangs in the air as though it were never to leave, so rich is the sustain, and the trebles cut with almost surgical precision; delicate overtones lending ghostly color to your Classical arrangements. A piece of guitar history, this Fleta is kind of instrument that many luthiers strive to create, and almost none achieve. Thankfully, Fleta was more than an ordinary luthier, and this Concert is more than an ordinary Classical.

There are few guitar makers who are as legendary as Ignacio Fleta, His guitars were so well regarded that the great master Andres Segovia chose a Fleta as his personal guitar for years. Along with Segovia, John Williams is a champion of the Fleta guitar. Fleta Classicals are prized for the clarity and power, they are able to fill up a concert hall better than the more delicate Torres style of guitar. This particular Fleta in East Indian Rosewood and Spruce has some of the most powerful treble strings we have heard, playing a tremelo sounds out full and clear, that is a real feat for a classical. The bass and mids are well represented here as well, they are rich and focused, never out playing the beautiful trebles, but complementing perfectly. The Fleta guitar is about as rare as they come, expecially built by Ignacio himself, even now in the third generation of builders there is a twenty year wait list for a Fleta.
