2010 Ryan Nightingale Grand Soloist, Brazilian Rosewood/Swiss Spruce
This is a completely custom, one-of-a-kind Ryan Nightingale Grand Soloist, built in 2010 and wide awake today in 2023. Kevin Ryan crafted this guitar with a set of his finest dark Brazilian Rosewood, topped it with Swiss Spruce and added a long list of custom options. There is an arm bevel with acoustic flutes, Blue Paua Abalone top border, backstrip, rosette and headplate surround. Then to make it truly unique it has Kevin’s dragonfly inlay theme that includes two large dragonflies on the fingerboard and headplate and around the rosette as well. Furthermore the back, sides and neck have a satin finish that feels amazing to the touch. The top is gloss so all the Paua really shines. To complete the package it comes with a Calton Deluxe Flight Case to keep this treasure safe!

We’ve got another powerful offering from the golden past of Kevin Ryan’s workshop today: a custom Mission Grand Concert from 1998 in African Blackwood and Sitka Spruce. The warmth and color imparted by this dynamite pair suits the GC body perfectly for a voice at ease with flatpicked solos or lush fingerstyle arrangements. We’re talking about an extremely versatile instrument, folks, driven hard or with a gentler touch this Ryan sings!
Ringing in the rosette is something unexpected for Ryan guitars; not the usual Abalone but rare and glittering Brown Lip Pearl! In DADGAD, DADFAD, Open G or Standard, this Mission Grand Concert delivers rich bass notes and round, shimmery trebles that envelop the player. And when not in use this Ryan is supremely protected by its Calton flight case.

There are Ryans, and then there are Ryans. For this 2015 build, Kevin upped the ante to astonishing heights as part of his Signature Series line. Only the topmost shelf tonewoods and appointments, including chocolatey Brazilian Rosewood for the body, Engelmann Spruce top, and the incredibly ornate and sprawling pearl appointments that put this Nightingale in a class all its own. There’s an ocean of Black Tahitian Pearl at work here, delicately and intricately inlaid in looping knot work and trimming out the neck, top, sides, back, headstock, bridge, rosette, even the endgraft wedge. It beggars the imagination to consider just how many hours went into every square inch of inlay.

2002 must have been a particularly good year for Kevin Ryan, because this Mission Grand Concert is nothing short of incredible. Brazilian Rosewood body with Bosnian Spruce top, Abalone appointments, and the glassy setups and play feel that Kevin is so well known for–plus this beauty has the added benefit of having been Laurence Juber’s personal Ryan. Needless to say, the mojo is there. Great note separation across the registers, and an extra meaty midrange really makes for a lively and fun playing experience. Great headroom on those glassy trebles, very tasty indeed.

Pure velvet. A Kevin Ryan is always glassy, but this 2019 Nightingale Soloist takes that to a new level with its combination of Sinker Redwood and Brazilian Rosewood. Very rich and expressive, with an added blooming quality in the bass response that’s particularly sweet to experience. Kevin’s 25.7″ scale keeps the voice crisp and defined as well, and enables you to tune down into DADGAD or beyond without loss of projection and definition. Being one of his rare Signature Series guitars, this Nightingale is dressed for the red carpet with art deco appointments, an arm bevel & acoustic flutes, titanium bridge pins, and silk-smooth setup.

The sweets of time are strong in this one. We love a guitar that’s opened up; love it so much more when it’s a Kevin Ryan Mission Grand Concert from 2001. Cedar top plus Mahogany body, wide awake and singing, makes for a very responsive and engaging voice. Trebles have the classic Ryan shimmer, but there’s also a lively and organic quality to the bass and mids to really fill out the voice. Tune it to DADGAD and hold onto your picks, folx. With a fresh refret to the tune of Gold EVO frets, this Ryan MGC is raring to go for another 20 years.

2004 Ryan Signature Series Nightingale, “El Milagro” Brazilian Rosewood/Swiss Spruce
We’ve had many, many guitar from Kevin Ryan pass through our shop, and we’ve been consistently impressed by their consistent tone, balance, and particular excellence for fingerstyle music. But this beautiful 2004 Nightingale Signature may be one of the most incredible. Not only are Kevin’s aesthetics on point (Ebony bindings, arm bevel, sparkling Abalone trim, fossilized nut & saddle, Lapis Lazuli-inlaid bridge pins), but the set of “El Milagro” Brazilian Rosewood he chose for the back and sides is jaw-dropping for both its grain lines and its acoustic properties. Tied with Swiss Spruce on top, this Nightingale Signature has a voice that is simultaneously voluminous and bell-like. It’s a huge, room-filling voice that also manages to make individual notes sound intimate as a whispered word.
Larry Robinson adorned the fretboard extension with a Celtic horse, and capped the heel block with a matching Celtic dog. The effect sets off the beauty of the surrounding woods without stealing the show; like everything else about this guitar, the Robinson inlays operate smoothly as part of the harmonious whole. As an added bonus, this is the first Signature Series guitar that Kevin adorned with his signature on the headstock!
One final touch: the satin neck and velvet setup are a dream in your hands. This is easily one of the finest Ryans we’ve ever seen.

This lovely number comes to us from 2020 with lightweight Mahogany body and Engelmann Spruce on top, plus Kevin’s full suite of Design Innovations to meet the needs of virtually any guitar player. The GC body has a heavily arched back for added resonance and projection without being a big guitar (the lower bout is only 15 1/4” across), and the addition of the bevel with acoustic flutes and florentine cutaway make for an effortless playing experience to boot. The voice is glassy and clear, with sweet trebles pairing with a juicy, juicy midrange. It’s a fingerstyle powerhouse that’s equally at home with picks and strumming.
