2003 Ryan Abbey Grand Parlor, Brazilian Rosewood/Sitka Spruce
Kevin Ryan’s Abbey model takes the usual Parlor proportions and fills them out just enough to make it a Grand Parlor instead—domed back, 14 inches across the lower bout, and a 25 inch scale come together for warmth and power in equal measure. Add to that a gorgeous set of Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides, and a Sitka Spruce top, and the result is an even richer, enveloping little guitar. Fingerstyle is the name of the game; the setup is silky smooth for effortless playing. Kevin’s slim neck profile fits comfortably in the hand, and it’s easy to lose track of time playing this one. This beauty from 2003 has been very well maintained—hardly a mark on it—and comes wrapped in a Calton flight case for maximum safety.

2018 Santa Cruz 1934 00, Brazilian Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce
Beautiful. Hats off to Santa Cruz for coaxing so much sweetness and articulation out of a single guitar. Using primo materials like this tight Adi top, and curled Brazilian Rosewood too, certainly helps, but we’d wager it’s got more to do with the care and passion that the SCGC team put into pulling off this magic trick. This 00 is built to their 1934 specs, offering a modern approach to the classic prewar formula, and they managed to thread that needle perfectly. Excellent fit and finish, a voice that boasts richness and separation at the same time, and a spacious neck profile for comfortable fretting. What more could you ask for? All wrapped up in a Hoffee flight case to boot.

2006 Schoenberg 000 Standard Marty Evans, Brazilian Rosewood/European Spruce
Several powerhouse names came together on this one from 2006. Eric Schoenberg paired up with Victoria, B.C.’s Robert Anderson to build this 000 Standard Marty Evans model–European Spruce & Brazilian Rosewood, 12 frets to the neck and style-40 Abalone trim. The instrument is French Polished for maximum resonance with a soft V neck and wide, comfortable 1 25/32” nut for an effortless fingerpicking experience. Maple bindings and Waverly tuners round out the package.
The voice is characterized by a clean and even response across the registers, and more projection and sustain than we expected from a 000-sized flattop. It very much holds its own in Standard as well as altered tunings.Other keywords: signature guitar, ooo, 12-fret, brw, calton

New Arrival2022 Taran Tirga Mhor, African Blackwood/Italian Spruce
Tirga Mhor is a Scots-Gaelic word for ‘Big’ or ‘Great Peak.’ It’s also the namesake of a mountain in Harris, in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. Mountainous is an accurate way to describe this guitar—vast, epic, substantial, and rugged in hand. It feels ready for anything you throw at it… musically speaking, of course.
African Blackwood back and sides, oak veneers, and Western Red Cedar kerfing. Elegant and substantial. The top is Italian Spruce, and paired with African Blackwood it becomes an absolutely intoxicating combination.
Hot-sand aesthetics throughout—the Taran calling card. The neck is made from reclaimed Brazilian Mahogany. The fanned fret scale runs 25″ on the treble side to 25.625″ on the bass. Powerful, robust, with a cocooning effect for the player—you feel fully surrounded by the sound, a total saturation experience.
From the precision of detail to the awe-inspiring timbre, this guitar is an excellent example of why Taran instruments are so highly sought after and respected. Hats off to you, Rory and company.
Is it a guitar, or a mythic artifact from a long-forgotten fairy tale? My guess would be both. It’s both.

SoldBrand New Noemi OM 12-Fret Cutaway, Bubinga/Cedar
A very sonorous and sweet 12-fret OM from Noemi—we love her work. This guitar features a combination of tonewoods that isn’t so common: Bubinga and cedar. This instrument is lively and full. Being an OM, it’s perfectly comfortable, but with the voice of an instrument you would assume to be significantly larger. Listen and look for yourself. This is an incredible experience for a guitarist of any caliber and from any walk of life.

Sold2024 Aboudib 00, East Indian Rosewood/Austrian Moonspruce
Our very first from Michel Aboudib, this 00 from 2024, serial number 26, is decked out in Austrian Spruce and East Indian Rosewood and has a lot going on. Michel’s signature style of rosette carving clearly reflects an original continuation of his time working with the one and only Ervin Somogyi. The satin neck feel, in contrast to the gloss body, is always a favorite combo for us here at the shop, and the feel of this neck, in particular, is quite comfortable. The detail in the bridge carving is incredibly stunning. So much work and detail are present in the appearance of this instrument—not to mention the sound. But we’ll let you hear and see that for yourself!

Sold1999 John Arnold D-42SK Deluxe, Koa/Adirondack Spruce
John Arnold needs no introduction here. If you know about John, you know how rare this instrument is. His guitars simply don’t come up for sale. It’s not only that rarity that makes this guitar exceptional–it’s also the effortless setup, the powerful voice with its clear, balanced response, the insanely figured Koa body and extra tight-grained Adirondack Spruce top. It’s the experience. Some guitars feel alive in your hands. This 1999 John Arnold D42S Deluxe does it every time you pick it up.

Sold2017 Bashkin 00-12, Honduran Mahogany/Adirondack Spruce
At the perfect intersection between form and function, that’s where you’ll find Michael Bashkin’s work. We recently snagged a like-new 2017 00 that’s got us grinning from ear to ear! Somehow Michael seems to be able to coax a few more ounces of richness out of such a small guitar than you’d think possible. Here he manages to voice Honduran Mahogany and Adirondack Spruce for maximum resonance and clarity with a delicate spray of overtones in the trebles. The bass response is crisp and cuts easily through the mix without enveloping the entire voice. Drop this 00 down into DADGAD or lower, and a new kind of creature emerges: articulate, resounding, full-sized.
Michael is one of the few luthiers working today whose voicing chops match his aesthetic execution: Bashkins are beautiful guitars. The 12-fret neck features Amber fret markers on the bass side (serving double duty as side dots and board markers), and you’ll find Michael’s “Compass Point” rosette below that in burl, and his braided “Leaf Vein” headstock above. Gossamer-smooth finish catches the light like a jewel, and Michael’s neck carve could teach a feather a thing or two about softness.
Even our guy that doesn’t like 00s was blown away! An incredible guitar, in every possible sense of the word.

Sold1894 Beitel, Brazilian Rosewood/Adirondack Spruce
When you listen carefully, a little piece of history can be heard crackling in the voice of vintage instruments such as this 1894 Parlor guitar from C.T. Beitel (1869-1916), one of the only examples existent today. Beitel, who worked with Martin at the end of the nineteenth century, has been identified by some as the first American-born apprentice at Martin. Clemence was the cousin of C.A. Zoebisch, Martin’s distributer in those days. This instrument was completed and signed by Beitel in June of 1894, and you can still see his signature on the underside of the top (“C.T. Beitel, 6/94, Easton”).
Understandably, this Parlor is similar to Martin’s instruments at the time in many ways, but it doesn’t fit neatly into any of Martin’s appointment packages. The top is X braced and features a Pearl rosette and Herringbone purflings. The body and neck is bound in actual Ivory (which was also used to make the oval-shaped tuner buttons). The Maple bridge plate is to all appearances original, as is bridge, the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, and the Adirondack Spruce top. The tuners are original as well: German-built Jerome tuners engraved with flowers. These tuners were only found on Martin’s most decadent models from this period.
The voice is creamy smooth and tinged with warm overtones, and plays very easily. Weighing under three pounds, this Beitel is a true featherweight, but still manages to pack a lot of sound into a small package. We’d expect no less from an instrument that precedes us by over 117 years!
