Brand New Spohn OM-C 12-Fret, Swiss Cherry/Swiss Moon Spruce
Where to begin? This instrument is vibrant, in every sense of the word. The choice of woods, the color of those woods, the pink appointments, and the clarity and immediate response from this are unparalleled. Not many folks do deconstructed rosettes, and absolutely no one does them like Max Spohn. It comes with Evo frets, Scheller tuners, the whole shebang. This creature also sports a Manzer-style wedge, laminated sides, and a gorgeously executed fingerboard extension. We love every detail about this guitar. If you need a guitar to cut through the mix, sonically and visually, look no further; we have what you seek.

A very sonorous and sweet 12-fret OM from Noemi—we love her work. This guitar features a combination of tonewoods that isn’t so common: Bubinga and cedar. This instrument is lively and full. Being an OM, it’s perfectly comfortable, but with the voice of an instrument you would assume to be significantly larger. Listen and look for yourself. This is an incredible experience for a guitarist of any caliber and from any walk of life.

John Arnold needs no introduction here. If you know about John, you know how rare this instrument is. His guitars simply don’t come up for sale. It’s not only that rarity that makes this guitar exceptional–it’s also the effortless setup, the powerful voice with its clear, balanced response, the insanely figured Koa body and extra tight-grained Adirondack Spruce top. It’s the experience. Some guitars feel alive in your hands. This 1999 John Arnold D42S Deluxe does it every time you pick it up.

At the perfect intersection between form and function, that’s where you’ll find Michael Bashkin’s work. We recently snagged a like-new 2017 00 that’s got us grinning from ear to ear! Somehow Michael seems to be able to coax a few more ounces of richness out of such a small guitar than you’d think possible. Here he manages to voice Honduran Mahogany and Adirondack Spruce for maximum resonance and clarity with a delicate spray of overtones in the trebles. The bass response is crisp and cuts easily through the mix without enveloping the entire voice. Drop this 00 down into DADGAD or lower, and a new kind of creature emerges: articulate, resounding, full-sized.
Michael is one of the few luthiers working today whose voicing chops match his aesthetic execution: Bashkins are beautiful guitars. The 12-fret neck features Amber fret markers on the bass side (serving double duty as side dots and board markers), and you’ll find Michael’s “Compass Point” rosette below that in burl, and his braided “Leaf Vein” headstock above. Gossamer-smooth finish catches the light like a jewel, and Michael’s neck carve could teach a feather a thing or two about softness.
Even our guy that doesn’t like 00s was blown away! An incredible guitar, in every possible sense of the word.

When you listen carefully, a little piece of history can be heard crackling in the voice of vintage instruments such as this 1894 Parlor guitar from C.T. Beitel (1869-1916), one of the only examples existent today. Beitel, who worked with Martin at the end of the nineteenth century, has been identified by some as the first American-born apprentice at Martin. Clemence was the cousin of C.A. Zoebisch, Martin’s distributer in those days. This instrument was completed and signed by Beitel in June of 1894, and you can still see his signature on the underside of the top (“C.T. Beitel, 6/94, Easton”).
Understandably, this Parlor is similar to Martin’s instruments at the time in many ways, but it doesn’t fit neatly into any of Martin’s appointment packages. The top is X braced and features a Pearl rosette and Herringbone purflings. The body and neck is bound in actual Ivory (which was also used to make the oval-shaped tuner buttons). The Maple bridge plate is to all appearances original, as is bridge, the Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, and the Adirondack Spruce top. The tuners are original as well: German-built Jerome tuners engraved with flowers. These tuners were only found on Martin’s most decadent models from this period.
The voice is creamy smooth and tinged with warm overtones, and plays very easily. Weighing under three pounds, this Beitel is a true featherweight, but still manages to pack a lot of sound into a small package. We’d expect no less from an instrument that precedes us by over 117 years!

If you want a big voice from a small place, this 2008 Beneteau 00 12-Fret is the dream machine that can take you there. Hearty and expansive midrange, round and articulate trebles, frankly great bass–it’s wide awake and singing sweetly. The Brazilian Rosewood body with Cedar top is part of that of course, but the rest is the alchemy of play time and Marc’s efforts during the build. The bridge is also an upgraded Brazilian Rosewood pyramid number that sets off the Cedar top and figured rosette; ditto for the bindings and headplate. The neck features a wider 1 13/16″ nut for an extra comfy lefthand experience, while the scale is 25.6″ to keep the tone crisp and defined.

We’ve had several of Bevan Frost’s Big Hollow guitars in the shop, and we haven’t managed to keep them for long before someone buys them up! So we’re excited that Bevan is working exclusively with us, and to commemorate the occasion we’ve got this brand new Big Hollow 00 on offer. Honduran Mahogany back and sides paired with a Lutz Spruce top and Oil Varnish finish for maximum resonance, 12 frets to the body and a Macassar Ebony arm bevel for added creature comfort. This beauty weighs in at a trim three-and-a-half pounds to boot, so there’s no chance of getting tired anytime soon when you’re in the thick of it. Fit and finish are top notch, and we love Bevan’s use of a bird’s beak joint for the slotted headstock with volute. Rope-style trim and rosette round out the package.

A nearly new 00 from Bevan Frost’s Big Hollow workshop! Built in 2018, this beauty already sounds alive and open, all the better to show off the Honduran Rosewood back and sides and Adirondack Spruce top. Bevan finished this one with Oil Varnish in a dark and emotive sunburst that’s offset by Bloodwood bindings and herringbone trim. Rubner tuners and an Ameritage case complete the package.
The voice is equal parts sweet trebles and smoky bass. Bevan chose wisely when he opted for a dark sunburst; it matches the tone to a T. The setup is dialed in for easy playability, and at just over four pounds this Big Hollow 00 is a lightweight guitar that it’s easy to spend long hours with.Other keywords: lutherie, luthier, honduras rosewood, adirondack, fingerstyle, oo, slot head, slotted head

This is the first Big Hollow that’s landed on our doorstep, and we were impressed the moment we tuned it up. This 2015 00 was built with four-piece, quartersawn Macassar Ebony back and sides and an Adirondack Spruce top, which lends extra power to the voice. We found this 00 to have a clean, focused sound, and the individual note separation precise and to the point. This small body 12-fretter responds surprisingly well to a flatpick, and is a natural choice for fingerpicking in standard tuning, as well as Open D.
EVO frets mean you won’t have to worry about a fret dress for quite some time to come, and the oil varnish finish has been buffed to a high sheen to keep the instrument as light and resonant as possible (this beauty is a trim 3lbs 14oz). Bloodwood bindings throughout are paired with herringbone appointments and matte gold Rubner tuners. Pyramid bridge for a touch of the traditional, but Bevan’s upper bout curves cut a more contemporary figure that sets this Big Hollow 00 apart from the crowd.Other keywords: lutherie, luthier, oo, parlor guitar, adirondack, macasser, ameritage, fingerstyle

Fine riches sometimes come in small packages. None more so than this Blanchard Pinyon from 2001. The petite proportions (14 inches across the lower bout) bely a rich, dynamic voice that blooms sweetly at even a light touch. Curly Eastern Black Walnut back and sides provide clarity, and a Coastal Redwood top warms up the tone like hot chocolate on a winter’s night. 12 frets to the neck further adds warmth and color. The playability is silk-smooth, and this Blanchard handles a range of tunings very well, indeed. The headplate has been upgraded with a bookmatched Brazilian Rosewood veneer bound in Curly Maple. The whole package weighs in under four pounds, which you notice immediately upon picking it up out of the custom Cedar Creek case.
We love it when a small guitar has a big voice, and this Pinyon pulls no punches. Take this single-owner prize home!Other keywords: lutherie, luthier, dream guitar, bespoke guitar, custom guitar, mark blanchard

This 2010 Sugar Pine from Mark Blanchard is sweet as honey and clear as a tall glass water. For the fingerstylist, this Madagascar–Rosewood-and-Italian–Spruce 12-fret is the kind of guitar you can enjoy for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert–the voice is impeccably balanced and impressively opened up (it’s only a few years old), responding quickly to both light and aggressive attacks.
We found the bass particularly delicious; well-defined and present in the mix, the lower register can be heard articulately, but doesn’t overpower the voice. The slightly wider neck makes for easier left-hand work on those complex altered tuning chord voicings; Evo Gold frets will last a lifetime, and are shiny as though new even today; trebles are quick and delightfully crisp. Add to all of that a “Comfy Corner” armrest, Manzer Wedge, Calton Case, and Venetian Cutaway–yep, this is the complete fingerstyle package.
