With Cocobolo and “Driftwood” Sinker Cedar on top, this one looks gorgeous as well—and these woods also help fill out the voice and add even more warmth and power to the overtones. Ziricote body with German Spruce top, 12 fret body join plus cutaway and a 25.5″ scale setup; EVO frets; Gotoh 510 mini tuners. Kevin Ryan’s Abbey model takes the usual Parlor proportions and fills them out just enough to make it a Grand Parlor instead—domed back, 14 inches across the lower bout, and a 25 inch scale come together for warmth and power in equal measure. Add to that a gorgeous set of Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides, and a Sitka Spruce top, and the result is an even richer, enveloping little guitar. Fingerstyle is the name of the game; the setup is silky smooth for effortless playing. Kevin’s slim neck profile fits comfortably in the hand, and it’s easy to lose track of time playing this one. This beauty from 2003 has been very well maintained—hardly a mark on it—and comes wrapped in a Calton flight case for maximum safety.
