New Mountain Song Guitars Baritone OD-J Ziricote/Bearclaw Sitka
Ken Jones is one of our favorite luthiers, for ample reasons. Not only is he a maestro of repair and restoration services capable of restoring lost jewels to their former luster, but also in his own instruments we find the depth, balance, and dynamism of tone which separates masterwork fingerstyle guitars from their lesser cousins. Paul’s personal Baritone is a multiscale beast from Ken (and is the envy of everyone in the shop), and we’re stoked to have another Mountain Song Baritone pass through our doors!
Custom-built for one of our clients, this Baritone has dark-hued Ziricote for the back and sides and a sumptuously-grained Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top, and all is bound in Ebony and sports both an arm bevel and a rib rest, and a soundport in the upper bout. Featuring a fearsome 28 3/4″ scale length, this Mountain Song Baritone handles A tunings like a champ! The bass register is rich and enveloping, but retains a well-defined edge that further sets it apart from other Baritone guitars, and the trebles! The trebles! Dripping with fat tone like butter in the skillet.
With a smooth C profile neck and 1 3/4″ nut, this Baritone hardly feels like a bigger guitar at all: it feels as smooth and familiar as your first favorite guitar. Unfortunately, this guitar has already been passed along to its excited new owner, but if you’re interested in having one made for yourself, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Remember the expression, speak softly and carry a big stick? How about speak loudly and carry a big stick—cuz that’s what we’ve got here with this 2008 Mustapick Baritone. This fearsome force of nature boasts a 29 inch scale (takin’ it down to G town!), all-Koa construction, and an upper bout soundport to boot. It only weighs in at a little over five pounds; not bad for a Baritone that’s packing as much projection and power as this one. The neck and body balance out each other well, making this an easy-playing experience. If you’re ready to take the leap into Baritone territory, you can’t go wrong with this all-Koa Mustapick.

SoldAdd to Compare2016 Noemi Baritone Koa/Adirondack (Red)
Paul’s been pretty busy as of late wrangling new builders for the shop, and as a result we have some powerful new additions to our lineup. Enter: Noemi Schembri, an Italian builder with an original aesthetic and loudly expressive guitars. Here we have a new 2016 Baritone which Noemi built for the Santa Barbara show and was an instant hit at the event. We’re not surprised: this Baritone is a great feat of contemporary design.
The voice is rich yet balanced, with treble strings that are dripping with juicy goodness; try a Cadd9 chord in standard and you’ll see what we mean. Set up to Ab standard, this Baritone has an easy playability and smooth setup, and the notes that pour out of its elliptical soundhole are huge and airy, thanks to the Koa back and sides and Adirondack Spruce top. In further dropped tunings, this guitar held up wonderfully, even thrived–the equivalent of DADGAD made this Baritone an almost cosmic force.
Even though this guitar has a larger than average body, the weight is incredibly light–we’ve played many regular steel strings that are half again as heavy as this Baritone. Add to that a Manzer-style body wedge, and you’re looking at a uniquely accessible Baritone guitar. For us it was love at first sight (or strum).
SoldAdd to CompareBrand New Rainsong BI-JM4000N2 Baritone, Carbon Fiber
Brand new to the Rainsong lineup, a Black Ice Baritone! And we’re stoked to have one here in the shop. Short scale (for a Baritone) makes for easy playability, plus the lightweight carbon fiber construction makes for an indestructable and stable body. Here’s more from Rainsong:
How do you describe RainSong’s JM? Three words: loud, loud, and loud. And if that’s not enough, it’s also loud. This is the largest body RainSong builds which is ideally suited to the new Baritone model. The sheer size, combined with the attributes of Projection Tuned Layering provides a deep. low end rumble that can go from quit to loud at will. Yet the JM Baritone has a narrow waist making it way more comfortable to play than one might think.
RainSong’s Projection Tuned Layering technique tunes the tone without the need for soundboard braces. Abalone rosette. All-graphite body. No body braces. All-graphite neck and epoxy fingerboard fabricated using RainSong’s Performance Shape Casting as a single piece with adjustable truss rod. Custom Mother of Pearl sharks. Tusq Nut, saddle. Abalone inlaid Tusq bridgepins. Customized hardshell case. UV protective, high-gloss, clear urethane finish.

More fun than you can shake a pack of (sizable) strings at! We’ve got a powerhouse baritone from Santa Cruz and co., courtesy of their collaboration with the late Bob Brozman. This 2000 DBB Pro has highly figured Koa back and sides, European Spruce on top, and a 27 inch scale plus 12-fret neck for warmth, punch, and oh-so-much bottom end. This guitar handles a range of tunings with aplomb, and it’s just super fun to play.

Yes, it’s that good. This is our first Multiscale Baritone from Davide Serracini–but it won’t be the last! A great mix of power, clarity, and note separation sets this one apart from the bari crowd, and the playability is as glassy and smooth as a regular flattop. The multiscale setup extends from a 28″ low B to 27″ at the first string, enough spread to enhance power on the bottom end and pair it with easy playing and singing trebles. An essential part of any fingerstylist’s collection, this Serracini Baritone makes for an exquisite playing experience to expand your horizons. Madagascar Rosewood body with Italian Spruce on top, gold EVO frets, Mahogany neck, and we asked Davide to dress this one up a bit, which he’s managed in high style. Geometric designs tie the headstock, rosette, and endgraft together.
Ready to experience real power? Step up, buckle in, and hold on.

A few years back I suggested to Bill Tippin that he would make an amazing Baritone guitar because of his wonderful clarity, power and rich tone. This prototype was the beginning and now Bill is regularly making wonderful Baritone guitars. This one features a relatively short 27″ scale which makes it ideal for C or B tunings depending on the string gauges employed and it also makes for a very easy reach. Guitarist seeking the lower voice will love this. It was made for the Newport Guitar Festival in 2006 and features beautiful Brazilian Rosewood coupled with a stunning German top. Custom purflings, bindings and fret markers dress it in the elegance of natural wood appointments.

We are excited to be partnering with the Ukulele Kids Club Inc., along with four outstanding luthiers: Steve Grimes, Jay Lichty, Peter Robson, and Ben Wilborn, as the platform that will sell four one-of-a-kind guitars to help bring the healing power of music to medically fragile children. It is our honor to support the efforts of these altruistic luthiers who have chosen to donate these fine instruments to benefit so many children in need. All partners and luthiers are proud to share that 100% of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Ukulele Kids Club Inc.
Here we have Ben’s baritone build on the Sidewinder body from his Comma Series guitars. Offset soundhole, elevated fingerboard, 27.5″ scale–this monster sings sweetly, plays easily, and is available for a great cause. As with all four LFAC guitars, the body is Flame Maple with Sitka Spruce on top, supplied by Steve Grimes.

It’s been a few years since we’ve seen a brand new guitar from Kathy Wingert, but if this FVC is any indication, she hasn’t been idling away the time! This guitar is nothing short of incredible. Dark red Cocobolo back and sides, tight grained Sitka on top, and an expansive multiscale fretboard (27.2” at the bass to 25.5” at the treble) that dips this Model F into semi baritone territory. That makes this an obvious choice for the intrepid fingerstylist who prefers open and altered tunings (C9 was our favorite), and needs the bass string to still feel as crisp and responsive as though it were tuned up to Standard.
If we could only describe this Wingert in three words, they’d have to be: velvety, warm, and enveloping. The trebles have a smooth, liquid quality that gives the overtones an extra dose of sugar, and we love how well Kathy balanced that with the mids and bass response for a smooth, consistent response across all the registers. Adding a micro arm bevel and venetian cutaway only makes the deal that much sweeter. This one has been in Kathy’s possession since she finished it in 2015, and it’s ready to meet it’s first owner.
This is your chance for a lifelong partner, all you fingerstylists!Other keywords: luthier, lutherie, cathy wingert, winger, multi scale, fanfret, fanned fret, semi-baritone, hoffee, bocote, baritone
