1927 Martin 0-21 Brazilian/Adirondack Red
In 1923 Martin made the first 0-21 braced for steel strings, 4 years later they made this incredible little beast of a guitar. Anyone who’s played a prewar Martin small body guitar knows why player’s talk about them with such regard. The sound leaps off of the aged soundboard and the entire guitar seems to want to vibrate off your lap. This guitar has all the mojo and then some. The tone is extraordinary with projection that will blow your hair back and it’s been completely setup by master luthier Bill Tippin so it needs nothing but someone to play it. There are no cracks anywhere on this guitar and it is nearly completely original. Just listen to the audio on this one…

We’ve brought this bad boy back to life with a brand new neck from National Reso-Phonic, making this 1931 National Duolian the perfect combination of vintage and contemporary: plays like fresh butter, rings out like a veteran crooner. Steel body plus single cone resonator, 12 frets to the body, and the perfect amount of patina and play wear to look the part. Add to Compare1930 National Triolian, Brass
This is an extremely rare find in vintage Nationals. Here we have a 1930 National Triolian (the first year of production) in Walnut finish but we discovered underneath it is a Style O Brass body! According to Don Young at National Resophonic, during the depression nothing was wasted, so if the engraving in a Style O had a flaw they would paint it and sell it as a Triolian. Very few of these probably exist in the world and it gives this one a great story. The last owner had master Luthier Bill Tippin go over the entire guitar and lovingly bring it up to date with regards to playability and reliability. There is $1500 of repair work in this guitar. The neck was reset and refretted, a new cone was installed to increase the tone and a Highlander Biscuit pickup added for live use. Lastly it has a new National case so this one is completely hassle free, you get all the vintage tone but with modern playability and stability. So here’s a chance for a very rare, Brass Body Triolian with no issues.

Now here’s an Olson that stands apart from the crowd! Very well-known for his Small Jumbos, Jim also has built a number of full-size Jumbos, and this gorgeous sunburst number from 1985 proves to us that he’s just as capable with the bigger size. Wide awake and quick! This one features a three-piece Indian Rosewood back, Sitka Spruce top, and some good-looking snowflakes in MOP at the fretboard and bridge wings. The red sunburst is an uncommon feature for an Olson, and we love how it lets the Sitka grain shine through. Being from 1985, this one has some play wear and the fine finish checks appropriate for a guitar of this age, and our repair staff recently went over it for a clean bill of health. Looking for the big centerpiece to your collection? This Olson Jumbo is just the supersized ticket.

This Ovation guitar belonged to legendary Folk Artist Josh White. In fact it was built to his specifications early in the Ovation company’s history. Josh White was a historic figure in music from the 1920s-60s and was a prominent player in this country’s race struggles. This very guitar is part of that history, for it was with his guitar that he did so much to help us all. We are honored to have this one of a kind instrument with an extremely collectable provenance. Comes complete with a video of Josh White performing on this guitar.
From Wikipedia.com: White grew up in the Jim Crow South. He later became a 1920s and 1930s star of race records, with a prolific output of recordings in genres including Piedmont blues, country blues, gospel, and social protest songs. He was billed in concert as “The Sensation of the South”.[citation needed] In 1931, White moved to New York and within a decade his fame had spread widely, and his repertoire expanded to include urban blues, jazz, Tin Pan Alley, cabaret, folk songs from around the world, and hard-hitting political protest songs. He soon was in demand as an actor on radio, Broadway, and film. However, his pioneering guitar playing never altered or diminished, while some would even argue it broadened with the expansion of his musical repertoire. White unarguably inspired several generations of guitarists with his new and unique stylings and techniques, and is cited as a major musical and social influence by dozens of future stars, including Blind Boy Fuller, Brownie McGhee, Pete Seeger, Lena Horne, Nat King Cole, Harry Belafonte, Lonnie Donegan, Eartha Kitt, Alexis Korner, Odetta, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, the Kingston Trio, the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, Merle Travis, Dave Van Ronk, Peter, Paul and Mary, Bob Dylan, Eric Weissberg, Judy Collins, Mike Bloomfield, Danny Kalb, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Richie Havens, Don McLean, Roy Harper, Ry Cooder, John Fogerty, and Eva Cassidy. Fingerpickers, come round, this vintage Washburn Model 5203 is a piece worth visiting with—for a long time yet to come. The Model 5203 from the 1920s is outfitted with gold vines along the Spruce top, which have mellowed sweetly with the lightly checked finish for a beautiful prewar look. Quarter-sawn Rosewood back and sides with Ivoroid bindings, a girthy (but not quite baseball bat) neck with 1 25/32” nut which feels comfortable and familiar; this Washburn is immensely fun to play, and weighs only a touch over three pounds.
