1986 Humphrey Concert Brazilian/Spruce
This guitar comes to us from a guitar head at a major University. It is a traditional Humphrey played into maturity at the hands of a master. Those of you that have ever played a guitar with thousands of hours in the hands of master player know what that does to a guitar. The Spruce top is fully open and offering wonderful array of colors and a vast dynamic range. While well known for his Millenium design, Thomas Humphrey always built a remarkable traditional design as well as evidenced here. Don’t miss this rare opportunity for one of the finest Humphrey guitars you’ll find.

The Humphrey Millennium changed the face of classical guitar in 1985. The sloped face, raised fingerboard and resulting magnificent tone are now a part of guitar history. Players like Elliot Fisk and Sharon Isbin have selected this very model for their work. We are simply amazed at the beautiful voice and utter power of this instrument. In Brazilian and Englemann this is one has it all.

Among the many reasons why we love having Huss & Dalton guitars in the shop, the fact that they have great taste in powerful tonewoods and consistently voice their tops for maximum projection rank at the top of the list–both things that this TOM-R has in spades. The Brazilian Rosewood that make up the back and sides are the color of chocolate mousse (and twice as rich), and the Adirondack Spruce top has a sweet, warm color to match its balanced and dynamic voice.
An excellent guitar for virtually all applications, this TOM-R also comes with an L.R. Baggs Anthem undersaddle microphone system–so it sounds superb both acoustically and amplified, letting that crisp, bright voice ring out. The neck profile is smooth and low, which when coupled with the slinky setup of the Ebony fretboard makes this instrument effortless to fret and great for players who play nimbly across the frets. The trebles are sweet, with delicate lilting overtones, and they really sing when the TOM-R is played with flatpicks: fiddle tunes sound full and complex, and give the instrument they were written for a run for its money. As if all this weren’t enough to make this the guitar of your dreams, it also comes in a snazzy TKL tweed hardshell case, so it looks fine both in the case and out!

To tell the truth, we’re pretty impressed. This 2000 CM Custom from Huss & Dalton has one of the loudest voices you’ll find from a guitar of this size. We can thank the figured Koa back and sides for that, and the Cedar top for giving the guitar an articulate and warm depth–and with everything bound in Curly Maple, this guitar’s a sight to see. Fingerstylists will fall in love with just how responsive this guitar is, and how well it intonates in lowered tunings. For recording, there aren’t many guitars at this price point that can half shine as well. The slim profile of the neck is easy on the hands, and the smaller dimensions of the body allow for comfortable playing, but thanks to Huss & Dalton’s deeper sides, there’s no loss of projection or sustain. This guitar comes equipped with a K&K Passive Mini, so it’s ready to roll acoustic or amplified, and comes with a debonaire TKL tweed hardshell case so you show up at the gig in style.

Another powerhouse guitar from Staunton, Virginia! Today we’ve got a Huss & Dalton FS Custom that one of our customers had built in 2008. As per their wishes, the back and sides are a lovely set of Brazilian Rosewood bound in Curly Maple and topped by some tight-grained Engelmann Spruce. The FS model is optimized for fingerstyle, and will reward a player with its rich, thoughtful tone and great sustain. The low-end is defined and controlled, and the trebles have great projection but are well-balanced with the mids. The voice has great body and articulation for dynamic and lush fingerstyle arrangements. The owner also requested that an L.R. Baggs Stage Pro Element pickup system be installed, so this guitar’s sumptuous voice can be heard acoustically or amplified. This guitar comes with the original TKL tweed hardshell case.

The shop is teeming with great smaller-bodied guitars these days, like this 2009 00-SP from Huss & Dalton Guitars. With East Indian Rosewood back and sides and Engelmann Spruce top, this guitar has a particularly sweet voice, with lots of clean projection for its 00 size. This is an excellent guitar for solo fingerstyle arrangements, thanks to the easy playability, the separation of notes across the strings, and the clarity and drive that comes from having an Engelmann Spruce top. Bound in Rosewood and Maple, this 00-SP looks the part of an older Parlor guitar, and has a voice which begs to sing Rag Time and Blues numbers. This guitar comes with the original tweed TKL hardshell case, and is in excellent condition.
