1998 Marchione 17″ Archtop, Curly Maple/European Spruce
Stephen Marchione manages to make a 17 inch archtop play as easy as a much smaller guitar–without losing the projection and power and resonance of the big box. The 3″ sides help with this, as well as the silky setup and neck carve. Back and sides are cello-grade Curly Maple, and on top Stephen opted for a set of European Spruce that matches perfectly. Ebony hardware throughout, and the pickup has been more recently upgraded with a custom Marchione-DiMarzio PAF collaboration–and this humbucker sings!

If crisp, lively power is what you need, this Marchione is here to deliver. Stephen’s OMC model threads the needle between room-filling projection and intimate playability, which this beauty from 2019 does just that. Notes fire right out from the soundhole, with an evenness between the registers that’s excellent for both fingerstyle and flatpicking. On the tonewood, front, Stephen outfitted this OMC with gorgeous, gorgeous Brazilian Rosewood and Swiss Spruce (note the light bearclaw figure), Honduran Mahogany neck, and Figured Maple bindings. Hot hide glue construction throughout, plus stainless steel frets for longevity. Moreover, Marchione installed an example of his unique, five-piece piezo pickup system that he developed with Will Brahm—and this puppy sounds delightfully natural and organic when plugged in.

Here we have something truly special: a 1950 Martin D-28, previously owned by the one and only Norman Blake. Based on information gathered from those close to Norman, we believe this instrument was the guitar used on his first album, Back Home in Sulphur Springs. It is also believed to be featured on the album cover. The guitar made an appearance on The Johnny Cash Show and was used by Norman on John Hartford’s groundbreaking album Aereo-Plain.
In addition to these staggering accolades, this guitar was once owned by Roland White while he was performing with Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys. There isn’t a much higher level of notoriety that an instrument in the realm of Bluegrass can attain.
Featuring Brazilian rosewood for the back and sides, Sitka Spruce on the top, and even a rattlesnake rattle inside, this guitar—manufactured 74 years ago at the time of publication—has all the right mojo and lineage. This is a special instrument that was present for many formative moments in acoustic music history. This is the first time this guitar has been offered to the publish since 1985.

Abalone Purple Martin birds alongside abalone Mountain Laurel flowers make this instrument quite a sight to behold. Few names are so well recognized in popular music as David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame. In 2021, Martin collaborated with Mr. Gilmour for an exclusive Signature Edition run of 250 guitars. These were soon all snatched up, but we’ve managed to land one, no. 27, here in the shop.
The David Gilmour signature models are the first D-35s ever made with neck, back and sides of Sinker Mahogany, chosen by David for its warm, rich tones and exquisitely beautiful grain. VTS Adirondack Spruce on top to be broken in and wide awake right out of the gate. A bespoke neck shape & fingerboard pattern were crafted to David’s specification for this guitar, while a special headstamp is featured on the reverse of the headstock. Every label was hand-signed by David; look into the soundhole and you’ll find his very hand just below “#27.” Additionally, we have included a customized Elliott capo engraved with the words, “Gilmour D-35,” to make this most exclusive Martin just a little bit more rare.
