2017 Thomas Malapanis Concert Classical, Cocobolo/Cedar
We lost Alaskan luthier Tom Malapanis several years ago, but not before he was able to leave us with an impressive body of work. We’re proud to offer this 2017 Classical today, outfitted with upgraded and figured Cocobolo plus Cedar on top. French Polish finish throughout, plus a fairly chunky Mahogany neck; this Malapanis feels lovely in hand with a 650mm scale and 52mm nut. Build weight comes in just under four pounds, this is a particularly resonant Cedar top with some gorgeous overtones in the midrange to fill out the voice and add color.

For one of the last guitars Manuel Rodriguez Sr. ever built, of course he went for the good stuff. The back and sides on this 2005 Concert Classical are wildly colorful and figured Brazilian Rosewood, and on top he opted for a set of tight-grained Alaskan Cedar. There are extensive chevron trim inlays along the top and body, as well as the back of the neck, plus Ebony bindings and Rosewood fingerboard. 650mm scale with a slightly curved neck profile that feels more modern than the traditional U shape; and is very comfortable in hand. Build weight is right at four pounds! The Honduran Cedar neck certainly helps out there. Gold Gotoh tuners with pearloid buttons and a high gloss finish throughout.

It’s been a good year:, we just landed Linda Manzer’s 21st (of 30) Pat Metheny Signature 6 Limited Run from 2016. Set up with Indian Rosewood back and sides plus German Spruce top, as well as many of the ergonomic features Metheny uses on his own Manzers. There’s the namesake Manzer Wedge and Venetian Cutaway, and added to that we have a groove carved into the heel, coupled with a thumb rest on the bass side, to coax the player’s left hand just a smidge closer to those uppermost frets.
The inlays across the headstock and fretboard are matched with the orange Calton flight case, and each of these 30 guitars is inlaid in a pattern unique to this run. The inlays were executed in conjunction with master inlay artist Mark Kett. Further, Linda used Copper for the side dots, and inlaid a Diamond at the 7th fret dot to boot. Linda also collaborated with Tony Duggan-Smith for the final setup and fretwork on each. Additionally, #21 features a CP-1 “Eric” Carlos Juan pickup system. Here’s a link to Manzer’s page where she describes the process: https://www.manzer.com/limited/

The 12-string market just got a little brighter: we have a 1997 12-string from Linda Manzer in Koa and Sitka Spruce! The 25 5/8″ scale has easy playability and great intonation across the numerous string gauges in play here, and the added comforts of a Manzer Wedge and Venetian Cutaway make this instrument further improve that playability.
The voice is excellently balanced, and responds well to both a gentle and robust attack. Well played-in and opened up, this Manzer 12-String also comes with a B-Band UST pickup which faithfully translates all the Koa-and-Sitka colorfulness to whatever amp you’d like. Across the fretboard you’ll find on of Linda’s rare Phoenix-and-Chinese-Dragon inlays which, with the simpler Ebony bindings elsewhere, acts as a gorgeous centerpiece to this already attractive display of lutherie at its finest.

A special treat if ever we saw one. Here we’ve landed a lovely Manzer Crossover from 2006 that’s opened up handsomely with Indian Rosewood and Cedar and is ready for more action. Crossovers are the perfect choice for the steel string player who wants to expand their tonal horizons and master a new kind of play feel with nylon strings, but with the creature comforts of a steel string guitar to make it easy to play and, frankly, more fun. Here of course Linda used her patented Manzer Wedge body design to tilt the guitar top up and back a touch towards the player, and added a cutaway for upper fret access. Then there’s a radiused fretboard and pickup + mic internal electronics. This one’s set up for just about every genre you throw at it.
