By now Bob Taylor’s company has provided excellent guitars to generations of players since its inauspicious start in 1974, and in 1995 the Taylor team gave us this superb GABE with Brazilian Rosewood and Engelmann Spruce. They probably broke the mold with this one (but lucky for us, Taylor Guitars has quite a number of molds)–all the balance and focus of the Grand Auditorium shape, plus all the depth and smoothness from Brazilian and Engelmann, make this an instrument without compromise.

The bottom end is crisp and focused, and complements the middle and upper registers with excellent balance. With Taylor’s customary slinky setup and low action, this guitar is hungry for whatever type of tune you throw its way, from snappy Blues riffs and leads to DADGAD fingerstyle arrangements. And as far as appearances go, this GABE also takes home the award for most sharply dressed: the Abalone inlay across the headstock, fretboard, rosette, and bridge is flawlessly executed and exudes calm elegance. Its former owner was meticulous in his caretaking: although this Taylor is over 20 years old, it shines as cleanly (and without scratches) as a newborn babe.

The last Taylor Custom DN we had in the shop sold in a matter of moments and we all know why: these guitars are some of the most versatile and capable instruments out there for the money. They have the name, reputation, resale value, durability and consistency that every touring musician knows is of utmost importance. But this one has one up on its brethren: a sleek, Ryan style arm bevel that makes long hours of playing that much easier and more comfortable. Add to that the gorgeous Asian Ebony back and sides, wide-grained Adirondack (Red) Spruce top and the renowned Taylor Expression pickup system and you have a killer combo that’s equal parts show room and stage! Just like the movie, this limited edition “Cujo” model by Taylor has a scary bark, but once it bites you, you won’t be going anywhere! But don’t worry, this one is up to date on all its vaccinations. As fun as it is to look at and show off, this one has that world renowned Taylor voice that will have you wanting to sit and play for hours at a time. Part roadworthy touring guitar, part fine collector’s piece, this beast-of-all-trades deserves a good home.

Here we have a Taylor 914ce L7 in silky Sitka Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood. We’ve come to expect quality and innovation from Taylor, and this guitar reflects why. The fit and finish is excellent, and top-shelf appointments like Abalone purfling, rosette, and gorgeous “Cindy” fingerboard inlay make this a real show-stopper. And when it comes to tone, Brazilian is king, and this guitar has a striking and especially fragrant set. Big, bold basses and bright trebles sing out of this stunning instrument. The Taylor Expression pickup system make this an excellent choice for the stage.

Here is a 1995 Brazilian Rosewood Taylor 810 with an Engelmann spruce top. This one is in great shape and plays like a new guitar. The voice is big and deep and the Rosewood and Engelmann work great together. The full bindings on the body, neck and headstock give it a classy look and fingerboard inlays complete the package.

Here’s a great Taylor 910CE-L1. This is a powerful dread from Taylor crafted from Indian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce and powered by the Expression Pickup System. The abalone top border and gorgeous fingerboard inlays set this one apart from the crowd. The playability is superb with that fast Taylor neck shape.
