Here’s a chance to land a gorgeous interpretation of the classic Gibson L5, this time from Jackson Cunningham of Virginia. Red Maple back and sides with Red Spruce on top, Flame Maple neck with gold hardware and a spirit varnish sunburst finish. We lost Don Wilson too soon. He leaves behind a loving family, both in blood and in guitars, and a wealth of time spent with Wayne Henderson at his shop. This 2009 28-style OM is a great example of his handiwork in person: classic 28 style, complete with Herringbone top trim and Abalone snowflakes & diamonds, as well as Brazilian Rosewood back and sides and Red Spruce top. This beauty has been lovingly played in across the past decade and has opened up a ton as a result.

Wayne Henderson’s righthand man and talented luthier in his own right, Don Wilson has carved out a name for himself with gorgeous flattops and mandolins. We’ve got a special treat here: Don’s first shade top dread! This 2010 D.L. Wilson could win awards on the quality of its Brazilian Rosewood alone, but Don paired all that gorgeous grain with a shaded Adirondack Spruce top, Herringbone trim, and soft V neck for the complete package.
The bass response is characterized by a focused warmth; the mids and trebles play nicely with each other and flesh out the voice great note definition. This is a guitar which begs to be played, and is a challenge to put back down thanks to a slick setup and slim nut spacing.
Don Wilson manages to coax extra sweetness out of the trebles so as to keep the tone smooth and delicious. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal for a Brazilian Dreadnought of this calibre.

Don Wilson has been working in the shop of Wayne Henderson for some time. He builds just a few of his own guitars each year and this is the first we’ve seen. We are here to tell you it’s a fine guitar with serious tone and great vintage vibe. This is a D-18 with a beautiful Shaded Top, Fossil Ivory nut and saddle and sporting a set of gold Waverly tuners with Snakewood buttons. This Wilson guitar has plenty of headroom and likes to be hit hard. The wide grain spruce top rings clear and the mahogany insures great projection. This is a wonderful bluegrass guitar.

A heavenly host indeed. This is Otto D’Ambrosio’s full-size, 18” archtop, the Angel City, here rendered with pale Alpine Spruce over Italian Maple, plus Flame Maple bindings and appointments throughout. Otto’s been in the lutherie business since he was a teenager, working at the fabled Mandolin Brothers repair shop. Later with Flip Scipio and even John Monteleone, and even later with Guild, Otto has had his hands on hundreds of instruments, which experience has informed his present day builds. In this Angel City we can definitely see the influence of Monteleone at the soundholes and headstock, for instance. Across the board, this instrument is exquisitely crafted for an effortless playing experience—a 18” archtop which doesn’t feel like a 18” archtop in your hands. Otto has included an Armstrong pickup integrated into the Maple pickguard, but you’ll find the volume and tone knobs are integrated lower down, into the chrome tailpiece itself. This allows the right hand to very easily reach the knobs without having to stretch your arm further out and across the guitar.
This is the kind of instrument that checks all the boxes: flawless execution, playability, and elegance.Other keywords: duane simpson, fingerstyle, jazz box, arch top, 02213, gotoh

James D’Aquisto aficionados will want to see this one. Several years back we had one of D’Aquisto’s rare nylon string prototype models, and now we’ve landed a steel string that’s wooed us even more. This Deluxe 16 Inch Flattop was built in 1977 (signed 12/23/77 inside), featuring tight-flame Maple back and sides with equally tight-grained Spruce on top, a chunky neck (at 1 15/16” nut width), and Jimmy’s signature inlaid at the headstock. An oval soundhole is trimmed out with Ivoroid to match the body and neck bindings, pairing with an irregular rectangular Ebony bridge and through saddle. The body is deep (just over 5” at the tail), and the added depth gives a powerful push to the voice that really opens up under a flatpick. That said, this D’Aquisto Flattop is also a fabulous guitar to play with fingers; in spite of its capacious dimensions this ones responds beautifully to a lighter attack, and has excellent clarity and sustain.
We’re proud to offer this rare piece of D’Aquisto history for its next happy home; please reach out with any and all questions.Other keywords: daquisto, 106, petteway, archtop
1982 D’Aquisto Nylon Euro Maple/Spruce Serial #1
From Wikipedia about Jimmy D’Aquisto: “James L. D’Aquisto (1935-1995) was an American guitar maker best known as one of the premier makers of custom archtop guitars.[1] He served as an apprentice to John D’Angelico in the early 1950s and was considered his successor after the latter’s death in 1964. From his shop in Farmingdale, New York, D’Aquisto became the top guitar maker from the late 1960s until his death in 1995. Today, his guitars sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and some expect that the first guitar in history to sell above the $1,000,000 mark will be a D’Aquisto.” D’Aquisto’s log book indicates 3 nylon string guitars were made, but this is the only nylon string D’Aquisto known to still exist. It was a part of the famous Chinnery Collection. D’Aquisto Archtops sell for over $100,000 this is being the only Nylon string known D’Aquisto to exist make it’s extremely rare and historic. It is crafted from flamed European Maple and topped with European Spruce and features a cutaway and a 1 3/4″ nut width. It was custom made as a crossover nylon string guitar. If a builder is passionate about their craft, their instruments will bear testament to that passion. And with great dedication comes great instruments: our 1997 Concert Classical from David Daily is no exception. Brazilian Rosewood paired with Spruce, played in and opened up, voiced with a smooth fundamental and rolling bass, trebles that cut well but not too sharply, precise string separation. From a luthier with over 500 guitars under his belt, it comes as no surprise that this Concert Classical sings in a velvet-rich voice and plays effortlessly. And should you prefer a higher or lower action, it’s a simple matter of sliding the saddle from one side of the bridge to the other: the saddle is extra long and wedge-shaped for precisely this reason.
Daily’s doing something right if virtuosos like Andrew York play his guitars. This 1997 Concert is an excellent opportunity to get one for yourself.

The guitars of the late great Tony Zemaitis are the stuff of legend! And with good reason too — they were played by some of the biggest names in the history of Rock and Roll. George Harrison, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Eric Clapton amongst them — Rock royalty does not get bigger than that! Sadly, Tony Z passed on in 2002, but before he did, a gentleman named David Brewis contacted him with hopes of commissioning a guitar. Tony explained that he was now retired, and he would no longer be building, but he graciously offered Brewis one of his official jigs in which to build a guitar. Within weeks Brewis was given 10 jigs and patterns, and permission to build guitars with them utilizing the talents of luthier Kevin Parsons. In so doing, Brewis was dubbed “Dave of England” and “Keeper of the Jigs and Keeper of the Patterns”! Dream Guitars is fortunate to have one of these fine and rare guitars to offer. This is a Queen of Hearts guitar designed by artist and author Paul Schmidt and built by Dave of England guitars. With it’s distinct styling and imaginative lines, this guitar could easily have been built by the hands of the master himself. But it is more than an interesting piece, it is also an extremely toneful one. The neck is on the slender side, and the guitar itself is lightweight. It has a fine fast attack, superb for Townshend-esque strumming — but played softly, it has a sweet remarkable tone that is very responsive to dynamics. In all, it is a wonderful guitar with a distinct voice and a truly special voice.
